I wonder if Drew jumped off the BSU bandwagon?

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/7/2014 6:02:33 PM)

Haha!!!! No sir, Matt. I was up on LOW fishing last weekend, otherwise I was going to the Saturday game. I was pretty dismayed when I saw we only split with Huntsville, that's pretty inexcusable. And it's going to bite us in the ### whether we make the playoffs or not. I think we will get 2 points this weekend, but we're probably going to wind up in 8th and be going to either the Purple Cows or Ferris. Did Wilkins play both games again last weekend?? If he did, that's kind of weird.

No bandwagon jumping here though. If the Twins haven't made me jump off the last 3 years, I think I can withstand anything.

Wilkins started both games.

Coach said Walsh was injured. How are you injured after a weekend off?

Not sure it would have made a difference on Friday. Huntsville goalie was insane. Wilkins did let in at least one weak one, though.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/8/2014 8:27:11 AM)

Just checked the scores from last night. BSU lost to Bowling Green 5-3 with Wilkins in net again. [:@] Luckily we have the tiebreaker against LSSU so a win tonight guarantees us a playoff berth. Could still get in if we lose or tie, as long as LSSU does the same.

We backdoored our way in. It probably won't be pretty next weekend, though.

I like that we set ourselves up for a Cinderella story.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/8/2014 9:10:11 PM)

We need Walsh to get healthy if we're to have any chance at all vs. Ferris State.

Wilkins sucked again tonight.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/9/2014 10:50:03 AM)

It's so weird that I can read story after story about the latest BSU hockey games, and there's never any mention as to what's going on with Walsh. Wilkins was horrible on Friday night - he got pulled and was replaced with the 3rd stringer....his last name starts with an M...can't remember. So this means Walsh is not even available. Is it really an injury as one of the coaches briefly mentioned a week ago? Why aren't the newspaper guys reporting anything? Something seems to be going on behind the scenes. When it comes down to it, these are college kids in a small town, so I can't blame the reporters for not pushing the questioning. But a little information would be nice. Our season is on the line next weekend and I'd like to know why our best goaltender hasn't been playing down the stretch. The last we saw of Walsh, he beat #4 ranked Ferris St.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/9/2014 11:05:22 AM)

Very curious Matt. There's got to be something other than an injury.

I agree. Otherwise the stories from WCHA.com, Bemidji State's own website, and the Pioneer would simply say "Walsh is out with an injury." It's like the whole topic of Walsh's whereabouts is swept under the rug like nobody's supposed to notice.

I do know it stinks because we have zero chance against Ferris State if he's not playing. If he is playing, I'd give us up to a 20-25% chance of pulling the upset. Not that he's great or anything, but we've seen him get hot and you just never know what will happen if you have a hot goaltender.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/9/2014 12:00:33 PM)

That goaltending issue hasn't resolved itself all year?
Kind of crazy.
Sure seems like these new leagues have increased travel time and expenses, eh?
Strange to hear who's playing who these weekends.

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/14/2014 8:09:27 PM)

I guess we're really setting it up for drama Matt. Putting up a good fight tonight - down 8-0 in the 3rd. 8 goals on 23 shots. I can't even skate, and I think I could give up less than 8 goals on 23 shots. That fat Russian goalie they wedged in the goal in the beer commercial would give up only 5 or 6, and he couldn't even move.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/14/2014 8:36:27 PM)

I just got home and checked the score too. How embarrassing is that?????? That is pathetic.

The only hope is that they catch Ferris State taking it easy tomorrow.

We aren't that bad..........are we???

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/14/2014 8:38:12 PM)

I'll eat my hat....it was Walsh in net. How do you give up 8 goals? And they left Walsh in there for all 8!

He must be hurt. Can't be any other explanation for a performance like that.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/14/2014 8:40:23 PM)

Lost 8-0.................and WE OUTSHOT THEM!!!

Has that EVER happened in the history of hockey? At any level? Help us out here SMF and Jesser. Have you ever seen that before?

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/14/2014 9:06:58 PM)

IALTO!!! Maybe we should play without a goalie tomorrow and try playing 6 on 5. They score damn near every time they put it on goal anyway!!

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/14/2014 9:10:46 PM)

That's even more unbelievable, as we have been regularly being outshot by 15-20 shots per game. We actually outshot them? I listened to the game we beat Ferris a few weeks ago where we didn't get a shot the whole period!!!

I don't know about that big of a score disparity - but last year it seemed that the Wild outshot their opponents in a ton of games that they lost badly. It was a very annoying phenomenon.

That's extremely rare
Not to get beat after getting out-shot, but to get beat THAT badly.
I've never personally seen one like that.
I've had several teams, where we outshot our opponents by 40 or 50 sots, and still lost or tied ... that was excruciating to take.
An 8 goal differential is really strange in this case. Not sure you could ever find another. At any level.
We've beaten teams at most maybe 5-2 or 4-1 with large shot discrepancies, when we've had a fantastic goalie performance for us. It just sounds really strange.
Pretty sure this isn't helping you feel any better. Sorry. [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/15/2014 1:34:11 AM)

Funny you bring it up Lynn, because if you search for that type of game ... like 15 of the 20 articles bring you to the Wild/Toronto game earlier this year.
Mn out-shot the Leafs 37-14 and still lost 4-1.
That's probably about as close as you're gonna get, Matt.

The Beavers are trailblazers!!!

Obviously it's the disparity I'm wondering about.

I doubt an 8 goal loss has never happened in the history of hockey for a team that outshot the opponent.

Until last night.

Way to go, Beavers!!

Hopefully they can laugh about it and come out loose tonight.

Will be interesting to see if they go with Walsh again. Can't believe they left him in there for all 8 goals. [&:]

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/15/2014 10:20:16 PM)

BSU's season is over. Lost 3-2 in OT. Looks like it was a good effort.

Drew, thanks for following along with me. Helped make the season a pretty enjoyable one, even though the results weren't what we wanted most nights. Hope to see you on the Twins board this summer.

Lynn G. -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/15/2014 10:24:53 PM)

Drew - don't do it! The Twins board is already in its usual relentless negative Eeyore mode and it's only spring training! Save yourself - don't go over there!

drew -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (3/16/2014 7:50:15 AM)

Thanks Matt! I've enjoyed talking about it with you as well. Hopefully next year we'll see some progress, we don't have too many seniors departing. We need to either develop or recruit some scorers to take another step. I think the nWCHA is good for us though, we have a realistic chance of competing in the league. We'll get this thread fired up again next October!!

I'm sure you'll see me on the Twins' board some this summer. They've worn me down a little the past few seasons. But we aren't bandwagon fans, right?!!
