Very Bud Grant-ish

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/4/2014 2:42:40 PM)

Fox or Del Rio had $ on the game, were threatened by the mob or something.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/4/2014 2:48:51 PM)

I just fought off the first horde (following my GASP! Bud Grant-bashing post. GASP!)
That group mostly just had pitchforks.
No big deal.
Looks like the next approaching group has some lit torches, boiling oil, that kind of stuff.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Loved Grant as a coach.

Hated how poorly they played in the Super Bowl.

Were they over-achievers? Was it coaching?

Both?

Was it Tarkenton?(per Ron Yary theory)

I was too young to put the blame on Bud,not smart enough in those days.
These days? It all comes down to the boss who gets the blame. Or should, when you get ripped apart.

Was wondering how your post above would play on the Vikes side of the house. Let me know when you're injured and I'll file the lawsuit. [8|]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/6/2014 3:16:17 PM)

Norv wants explosive offense, dynamic young QB for the Vikings.

Obviously, he's referring to Ponder.

Seriously Corleone?  I was thinking more along the lines of around $5,000.  This discussion has come up several times on the regular Vikes forum.  People there seem to think that those season-ticket holders not willing to pay the exorbitant license fees will be easily replaced by other Vikings fans who will.  I am not so sure this is the case.  Who in their right mind would pay such atrocious fees in addition to paying for each year for over-priced season tickets

You got some good seats. I saw the highest is $9,000 a seat and those are club seats.

They are making the thought of attending a Vikings game something only the very affluent can afford.  Or at the very least, a person or family who is willing to pretty much give up their family vacation(s) and other disposable income for the torture of watching inept Vikings home games at a new stadium.  The average Twin Cities area family (ie, $90,000-$100,000 household income) could not possibly consider Vikings season tickets without giving up a lot of other annual entertainment activities.  Most, would not, should not and could not afford it.  Kids going to private school or college?  Forget Vikings tickets.  Need a new or newer family car, forget Vikings tickets.  You want to take a family vacation to Mexico?  Forget Vikings tickets.  You have a second mortgage on the house that you would like to pay down or off?  Forget Vikings tickets.

I hope the Wilf family the worst when this is their response to a publicly financed stadium.  Didn't the legislature put limits on issues like license fees and ticket prices before approving funding?  Sheesh!  [:'(]

You are very optimistic about 2016. [;)]

Todd M -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/7/2014 4:55:26 PM)

The one guy squawking the loudest probably spent close to that on one trip to the remote regions of earth to shoot crippled cockatiels.

And it's not like there's an investment in THAT!

What do they give you, 5 years to pay that off? Seems doable if you're bringing in 100g as a family.

It's kind of symmetric... a pair of tickets in your section is $700 or $7,000/yr.

The best are the roughly 8,000 seats in the four clubs: Field Club ($9,500 license, $400 ticket);

Valhalla Club ($7,000, $350); Vikings Club ($4,500, $300); and Fire + Ice Club ($3,500, $200).

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/10/2014 5:16:57 PM)

Zimmer said something the other day that was music to my ears: as of now, the Vikes will stick with the 4-3, unless draft/FA changes the personnel so that it would make sense to go with the 3-4.

My god, a coach who might actually scheme to take advantage of the strengths of the roster? Been lacking far too long in Vikingsland

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/14/2014 3:15:20 PM)

For some reason, this double-speak that comes from this guy makes me trust him as a GM even less.

Ben Goessling ‏@GoesslingESPN
Spielman said today that Ponder "will be here," but sounded committed to idea of finding a young QB. Said #Vikings will add at least 2.

Brian Hall ‏@MNBrianHall
Spielman was very open on Ponder. Said he sees Ponder being here, but they have to find a franchise quarterback. #Vikings

All that tells me is that he doesn't have a kick ass system.

Good.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/14/2014 3:23:25 PM)

Speilman says Ponder will be here next year. God, why?

http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/blogs/245571911.html

Guess he wants to see if Norv can polish a turd.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/14/2014 3:25:45 PM)

I'm inclined to give him a pass for the moment -- at least until we have a second QB on the roster. What else can he say right now?

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/14/2014 3:30:25 PM)

That Ponder was a mistake and they are moving on. I would have a lot more respect for that.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/14/2014 3:32:42 PM)

I get it. But I like to have at least one QB rostered at all times.
