TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/16/2014 4:57:50 PM)

I'm pretty luke warm on Metz. He had severe mobility issues before he tore his ACL. Lot of questions about his pocket presence as well. He would be worth a look in the 3rd round. If any of Bridgewater, Bortles or Manziel fell to #8 I would be all over it. Otherwise I would wait until the 2nd round for a QB. Almost everybody has us taking Carr at #8, which seems like a Ponderesque reach to me.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/17/2014 9:56:36 AM)

I tend to agree, Sweens. Carr at 8 seems like an awfully big reach. I'd rather go defense if all of JFF/B-water/Bortles are gone.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/17/2014 10:16:16 AM)

It's a good point on the ACL too. My point on Metz (although I failed to mention it) is that his knee checks out 100%. His mobility was pretty crappy to begin with.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/17/2014 10:17:29 AM)

I have only seen Bortles and Carr one time. Their bowl games. Neither impressed me but I'm going to be open minded. If you could judge a QB off of one game, Ponder would have been a sure fire HOFer against SF last year.

I'd be thrilled if we ended up with either one.

Good to have you back, Steve!

Thanks Matt.
Spent last week in Playa Del Carmen. My 35 year old son finally got married!!! Wasn't sure it was going to happen, but it looks like they were made for each other. We had 40 guests and had one heck of a time. It was at the Royal an all inclusive adult only resort. One of the most enjoyable places I've ever stayed.

Dude!
My youngest son and his girlfriend spent last weekend in Playa Del Carmen!
I shoulda told him to mooch off you, instead of his GFs parents! [&:]
What a great week to be down there ... It was basically below zero here for the entire ten days they went.
He stands around now shivering like a little puppy [:D]

I would've loved being able to buy your son a few drinks. I wouldn't mind getting a little dirt on you either.[;)]

El Dorardo Royal?

If so, we were there for the week of Christmas. Was awesome!

No we were at the Royal in Playa Del Carmen. These all inclusive resorts all rock though.

The Patriots have become the 1990s Atlanta Braves. They play in an easy division, take care of business during the regular season, then get punched in the mouth and go home in the playoffs

Add to that, they've become a team/organization that is easy to dislike.

Indeed.

The Twins of the 2000's

Jim Frenette -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/2/2014 5:33:34 PM)

Broncos 27-23

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/2/2014 6:56:51 PM)

Looks like our Vikings DID make the Super Bowl this year!
Very reminiscent effort.
Bringing back all sorts of bad memories.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/2/2014 9:36:38 PM)

Tarvaris plays for the winning team, sees action in the Super Bowl. Somewhere Brad Childress smiles.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 8:56:29 AM)

Not kidding.
For those of you too young to know ...
We old Viking fans know EXACTLY how Denver feels.
High hopes, confidence, optimism ..... CRUSHED in a matter of seconds.
We had that done to us 4 times.
Only once did we even stay in the game past halftime.
Some horrible memories were stirred up by that one yesterday.
Its why I'll probably never love Bud Grant as much as most Viking fans do. We were never ready for the size of that game.

Yep. I still remember the sheer disbelief in 1969. We should have stomped the living crap out of the Chiefs. The most maddening thing was we would come back and beat the team that beat us the following year.

The last one was the hardest to take and yesterday reminded me of it. We had never led in any of the previous 3 games. The defense stopped the Raiders initial drive and forced a punt. The Vikings then proceeded to be the only team to ever block a punt from HOF punter Ray Guy. The Vikes recovered on the Raiders 1 yd line. Then Jerry Burns made the biggest blunder of his career as an OC. Instead of Chuck Foreman he called Brent McClannahan's number. McClannahan promptly fumbled; Raiders ball. They drove 99 yards for a TD and the Vikes never recovered. It all went downhill from there.

STOP STOP STOP [X(][X(][X(]

[&:][&:][&:]
That's the stuff I've been re-winding all night, Tim

The one game we actually did hang around in ... The Steelers were awful. (they were at the start of their dominance)
We did nothing, then broke a big play that looked like it would finally bust us loose ... only to have it called back by penalty.

You're right ... we had the Raiduhs on the ropes early, and basically peed ourselves.
I've said that too .. your point about how we always would play the same team the next year, and stomp them.
We had some great players but for some reason, they never figured out how big that game was.
Many of them started making jokes about it, and that pissed many of us diehards off even more.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 9:15:04 AM)

Like yesterday .. Denver finally starts moving the ball. and Thomas has it punched out after a big gainer
SO deflating
Its those kid of days where whatever can go wrong, goes wrong.
And the cocky kids on the other side just get cockier, and make it look like they knew they were better than you from the start.
Built up a lot of hatred for the Stram/Chiefs, the Noll/Steelers, and the Shula/Dolphins.
Madden and the Raiduhs were always my second favorite team, so that one hurt me less.

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 9:31:59 AM)

Talk about an entire team meltdown. No one looked ready to play.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 9:47:33 AM)

Barnwell as usual with a long, but excellent recap of what happened.
Great points about roster depth, and where both teams were at as far as injuries go.
Simply some overmatched players in critical positions.
And Denvers flaws played perfectly into Seattles strengths.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 9:56:11 AM)

Couldn't believe how terrible Denver's tackles were.

Denver suffers in that offense w/lots of crowd noise.

We figured they were in trouble from the first snap, onward.

Denver now has more losses than MN and BUF in the Super Bowl. Still doesn't make me feel any better about those.

Saw an interesting note; Ahead of Collge Signing day.... Russell Wilson was a 2 Star recruit. Good evaluation [;)]

Dave E -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 10:00:09 AM)

The offensive line was overwhelmed from the get and Manning/coaches did absolutely nothing to counteract it (at least, effectively).

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 10:26:49 AM)

Some friends of mine laughed about that too .. that Denver has more losses than us.
Big whoop
They also have a couple wins we probably will never have.
I'd take 2-15 over 0-4 any day.

Saw an interview with his family yesterday
They were convinced he would be a professional ...... baseball player

We were talking about Seattle and their lack of champions until last nite. William, of course, knew nothing of the Sonics.

Then we talked about MN....

And "well, at least the Lynx have won 2 of the last 3. And..............................
oh yeah, the Twins won 2.

1991 is a long time ago, Dad"

No kidding. I wish the Twins would figure that one out.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (2/3/2014 10:32:50 AM)

My buddy and I were pretty down.
Started naming the franchises who HAVEN'T won a SB. (while drowning our sorrows)
That number is dwindling.
Especially for having been around as long as we have.
