I think he and Teddy both put 3 points on the board.

Just like I figured.
Johnny Football moves chains.
Johnny Football has a really good football IQ, where he throws the ball away, instead of "into trouble".
Guy is just
damn
fun
to watch, imo.
Doesn't matter what level, he will succeed.

IMO.

He runs so much. I think he's going to be really fun - until he gets killed.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (8/17/2014 7:34:14 AM)

One of the craziest finishes ever.
I went from almost balling, because that feeling rushed over me about just how cursed we are here ... to elation, that maybe ... just maybe ...
We may be turning a corner.
Still gonna attribute about 99% of that, to ...... having a guy patrolling the sideline who actually gives a shit.
So nice to have a HC who is engaged, animated, irritated by the same things we are, elated by the same things, etc ....
So tired of the Mt Rushmore approach.
Our D still has trouble getting off the field via fourth downs. Gonna be a process.
The offense is looking better, esp knowing AD is in the wings.
Very good QBing so far. The combo last night was about as efficient as you can get.
Which is all we are really asking for.
Loving TCF Bank so far. Nothing wrong with that venue. With the heated coils, it will be a really nice place to call home for a couple years.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (8/17/2014 10:36:53 AM)

We better get a lot of pressure up front. If not, it might get ugly. We have some pieces in the back 7 but they are still weak. When you have Cole and Brinkley fighting for the starting MLB role, you are in trouble.

As for Teddy Bridgewater..... looking good kid.

start of the second half is what I expect, again, this season.

Bad guys have the ball, control it for 10 minutes a drive, because they can't get off the field.

Teddy was fun to watch, Who cares if it's against scrubs for now. Was a taste of the future.

A future that will depend on D to improve. Yikes. Not seeing that.

Dude, if you can put together a game winning drive against AZ's 2nd and 3rd stringers, what questions are left to answer? Carve the bust now!

The Twins had a window of opportunity to become the game in town in 2010 with Hardy, Thome, Mauer, Cuddyer. Instead, they go out and give away Ramos for a piece of crap reliever instead of strengthening the rotation for a playoff run. The Vikes were down at the time and the Twins could have taken over the town.

I was trying to find the Twins game on WNAX Saturday night and they had the Clark Howard show on. I am wondering if there is a rain delay, what is going on? I see the Twins on Fox North so I know the game is on.........and then the Vikings come on the radio and I realize WNAX, in a broadcasting decision, elects to have the preseason Vikings football game instead of a regular season Twins game against a division rival and division leading rival.

So much for the Twins seizing the window of opportunity.

They were also effective in seizing the Mauer Morneau window of opportunity.

Guess what, that window closed pretty quickly as will the Window with Buxton and Sano when they make it.

Will the Twins organization get this?

Highly unlikely.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (8/18/2014 10:10:36 AM)

This coming from the guy who was ready to enshrine Johnny Football for putting up 3 pts in a preseason game.

After starting the Minnesota Vikings' first two preseason games at quarterback, Matt Cassel will start once again during the team's next game on Saturday, reports ESPN's Ben Goessling.

Cassel continues to get the nod over rookie Teddy Bridgewater, who has played in both games and completed 16-of-20 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns against Arizona last Saturday.

More: Preseason winners, losers: Bridgewater shines

Through two preseason games, Cassel has completed 17-of-22 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions.

Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer said that Bridgewater could see time with the first team Saturday, but would not commit to it.

Bridgewater recently said that he "needs to stop overthinking" his performance.

Cassel is doing nothing to lose his job. Media hype is a bit much on Teddy [8|]

Espn began ranking the Nfls top 100 on offense and the top 100 on defense today.
They showed 91-100 today.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (8/18/2014 2:59:55 PM)

MINNEAPOLIS -- In time, the Minnesota Vikings' 30-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night -- a preseason game in which both Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater played a full half, and each fashioned a passer rating better than 125 -- could come attached with an ignominious footnote: It could be the night when Christian Ponder's chances of appearing in another home game as the Vikings' quarterback were permanently snuffed out.

Coach Mike Zimmer said last week that Cassel could play as much as a half in the Vikings' second home preseason game, and after the game, he added that the plan all along was to give Bridgewater the whole second half. That meant the Vikings effectively went into the game planning not to use Ponder, who was firmly entrenched as the team's starting quarterback at this time last year. This came on the heels of a training camp where Ponder never got more than a cursory look, and as the Vikings make decisions about their roster composition, it raised this question: Would the Vikings be better off parting with Ponder before the season?

There's a danger in only carrying two quarterbacks, as the Green Bay Packers found out last season, and I've long thought Ponder carried some value for the Vikings this year, in the sense that he could step in if Cassel were injured or ineffective and the Vikings didn't feel the time was yet right for Bridgewater's debut. But their use of Ponder to this point speaks to how marginalized he's become, to the point where the value of his roster spot -- or the return he'd fetch in a trade -- might exceed what he could provide as an emergency option.

The San Francisco 49ers, for example, were facing questions about their backup quarterbacks after a 34-0 defeat Sunday, to the point that coach Jim Harbaugh had to give them a vote of confidence. The 49ers shipped a sixth-round pick in 2014 and a conditional draft choice in 2015 to Jacksonville in exchange for Blaine Gabbert, who was picked two spots ahead of Ponder in the 2012 first round. They also have McLeod Bethel-Thompson, who was the Vikings' third-string quarterback until the team signed Josh Freeman last October. Could San Francisco -- or a team in similar straits -- part with a seventh-round pick for Ponder, whose mediocre career has still featured more success than Gabbert's or Bethel-Thompson's?

The fact the Vikings haven't traded Ponder to this point would suggest they haven't yet found a team willing to pay that modest price, or that they put a higher value on the quarterback than that. But even if the Vikings cut Ponder at the end of the month, it would seem there's a good chance that he'll sign with another team, which would offset some or all of the Vikings' responsibility for Ponder's $1.76 million base salary through the language in his rookie contract.

As rookies like defensive tackle Shamar Stephen and second-year undrafted free agents like receivers Adam Thielen and Rodney Smith make their push for roster spots, the Vikings might find themselves in need of a little extra flexibility. They could get it by parting with a quarterback who's never looked like more of an afterthought in Minnesota.

Took you that long to put him in? I had him in back when he made the "money" sign during the season last year. [8|]

Manziel a little Ponder-ish tonight in his ability to miss wide open receivers...

I thought MN line was weak. They're all-pro vs the Browns' line. Washington was all over their qbs.
