Rodgers may be good but he's still a piece of sh*t. [:D]

bstinger -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/6/2014 11:54:40 PM)

Expecting a good year from the Vikes. Need to get off to a good start tomorrow!

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/6/2014 11:57:00 PM)

I have approximately 7 million times more faith in Zimmer than I did in the previous two regimes.
For that reason alone, I am deeply looking forward to this season and next.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 12:00:03 AM)

And by that ... I mean I can almost GUARANTEE that he will be bothered by losses and mistakes as much as we are.

When you've been fans as long as we have ... that's HUGE.
Think about it.

These management teams who have the audacity to act like we fans are losers, because we get too upset about losses .... deserve to be fired and publicly humiliated.
This is not Utopia or Smallville or anything close.
Professional sports are about winning. I want guys involved who will do damn-near anything to get it done.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 12:19:01 AM)

Hard Knocks is a much-criticized show, but I've always enjoyed it, and I've always learned some things from it.
Zimmers aura and personality, when with the Bengals, stuck with me more than almost any character we have been introduced to.
Dude was honest, intense, and driven. Not fake. No bullshit. They filmed many interactions he had with his "guys" during that training camp.
He patted guys on the back, he cussed guys out, and he cut guys. And every one of those guys he dealt with, respected him.
It was easy to see. He's a football guy who loves the game, and wants desperately to put his own stamp on something before he's done.
This should be as good a place as any. Give him some rope, and let him build and mold what he thinks will work.
Where we were headed before, sure as hell wasn't working.

So not Rex Ryan?

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 12:29:54 AM)

The anti-Rex
You read me well.
Not sure I could like someone less than Sexy Rexy.
And .. a lot of that came from Hard Knocks, as well.
How someone like him gets that arrogant, I have NO idea.

I'm always interested in that player/coach dynamic. Why it works. How it works.

Some guys can be a hard ass and it works. Some guys are a hard ass and it does not work.

JT2 -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 1:03:18 AM)

Les Steckel and Brad Childress vs. Bob Knight and Bob Huggins. All of them hard asses. It worked for two of them.

Personally, I think the hard attitude has to be real, earned. Otherwise the players see through that. Childress was fake hard. Steckel was delusional.

It's always about the players. When the coach thinks he is the best thing about the team (possibly a few exceptions) he's taking too much credit.

I hope Zimmer remains who he is, even after he leads us to a SB. Sure, ask for a raise, but keep the passion and the love for what you do. Money can be so temporary. Most people get rid of it almost as quickly as they get it. Changing lives, doing good for others, teaching, these things are permanent. You can't spend that, and nobody will remember your net worth when you die.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:15:49 AM)

Great posts
Spot on as usual.
Fascinating, to see (like you say) how the same apparent styles work or don't work.
Very very fine line.
You just can never fake the "work". Those under you see whether its true, honest effort, or if you're just talking about it a lot.
Zimmer comes off to me as a worker of the highest kind.
Oh ... and blame. How that's handled is very telling in todays games and professions.
Theres not a team on the planet that COULDN'T come up with a hard-luck story about their injuries or their shortcomings or the injustices they've had heaped on them.
The good ones never spend a moment thinking about that crap. That only see opps for someone else, or chances to head in a new direction.
Good stuff Pete.

I do also. When Childress was hired, yes he came from a winning program as the OC, he never had the experience of calling plays so he was just another coach on the field. Then Frazer, he's was the DC with a team that wasn't even one of the better defense in the league. He was promoted on the cheap because they still owed Childress millions.

Now Zimmer. Experienced Dc with a top 5 defense and the best thing he did was hire experience for his coordinators. Huge move. The other 2 hired inexperience. Now in a couple of years if Norv moves on, one of his assistants might take the job because system installed and has the knowledge passed on to him. That's how to give coaches experienc.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 9:55:11 AM)

Great posts guys. Harbaugh has that same "made up mystique" about him. And, it's tearing that talented-ass'd team up. It bought him about 3/4 of a season but you could see his teams demeanor change as they started to understand he's a fake.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 1:28:01 PM)

Figured there'd be two outcomes today ... And it's true

We'd suck, and people would call for Teddy
Or
We'd kick ass, and people would still call for Teddy.

Yup.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:18:03 PM)

Great start

Excited about the year
We are built for outside
That's gonna be huge later on

Trying to tame my excitement, but this could be so much fun.
(Yeah ... It's just the rams). [&:]

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:27:09 PM)

Damn

Too easy

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:37:28 PM)

Thank you higher power for
Zimmer
Turner
CPatt

MDK -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:38:19 PM)

Both the defense and the offense seem to be a difference from night and day as compared to a year ago.

Vikings fans should be excited....even if it is the Rams.

There have been times the Vikings couldn't win on the road if they paid the other team to not show up.....they would still find a way to lose.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:42:18 PM)

Pin your ears back boys

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:43:24 PM)

Barr just blew up that screen all by himself

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (9/7/2014 2:48:47 PM)

Kicking ass

Taking names.
