Ok, now this is funny.

I hear the Red Sox were impressed, they saw some sort of gyro-tating action that caught their interest.
They've never seen a ball drop so rapidly.
Plan to out-bid everyone to take a shot at this guy.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (4/29/2011 5:40:50 PM)

Damn, I missed #4. Good stuff Stacey.

I've seen that pitch come out of Liriano's hand lately.

Name the top 5 active career hits leaders (first one is easy, obviously).

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 5:03:52 PM)

And for that matter, how many of the 9 active players that have at least 1,000 hits AND are 30 years old or younger can you name?

Steve Lentz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 5:35:27 PM)

Off the top of my head
Rose, Cobb, Musial , and Aaron. Possibly Wagner? Now I have to think.

Those guys still active????
[;)]

I think both Mauer and Morneau had 1000 before age 30.....

I can't name all the nine active but

Jeter, IRod, Ramirez (is he active anymore?) have to be on the leader board.

I would think both Jeter and Ramirez had 1000 before age 30.

Is ARod on that active leader board list?

Omar Vizquel must be but he didn't get 1000 before age 30.

I will predict Jeter, Ramirez and ARod had 1000 hits before age 30.

So I am saying

Mauer, Morneau, Jeter, ARod (I bet IRod isn't on the list), I don't know if Manny Ramirez is still considered active but I bet he achieved it....
HanRam is on the list.
I would put Cabrera, Pujols on the list.

Gonna add Utley and maybe Reyes.

And of course, Nick Punto[;)]

Toss in Drew Butera.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 8:36:10 PM)

Miles, you misread the question. The second one is about players who CURRENTLY are 30 or under and have at least 1000 career hits. There are 9 of them. I'll get you started; Mauer and Morneau are 2 of them, yes, with Mauer being the 3rd youngest actively to accomplish it. Utley got a very late start; he's 32 already. Reyes is one of the 9, yes. He's the youngest. Cabrera beats Mauer for 2nd youngest, by a day. Or so we are led to believe.

So Mauer, Morneau, Reyes, Cabrera. There are 5 more.

HanRam is not on the list yet; he and Markakis should both reach 1000 in the next week or two though.

So still need 5 more. 1 of them is relatively shocking to me. You just don't think about him. The other 8 all make sense.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 8:37:22 PM)

As for the leaderboard currently, yes, Jeter is the obvious leader. Crazy to think that we've only had a couple of guys accomplish it in the last 10 years. And Pudge is 2nd on the list. 3 more.

Actually, heck, let's have everyone see how many of the top 10 they can name on the active list? And I leave out Manny Ramirez because he is indeed retired.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:26:44 PM)

Jeter, Pudge, Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, Damon, A-Rod, Ichiro, Ordonez, Hunter, Cameron....???? A few of those are probably terrible guesses.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:36:21 PM)

Not bad Matt. Here's the ones you got/the ones that are left.
#1-Jeter
#2-Pudge
#3-
#4-ARod
#5-Damon
#6-Chipper
#7
#8
#9-Ichiro
#10

Ordonez is #14, with #13 being Jim Thome. Andruw/Hunter/Cameron are not in the top 25.

Am I close???????

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:43:22 PM)

Ya, they just missed the cut, Kerry. [:D]

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:45:42 PM)

It's going to be very interesting to see if #2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 make it to 3,000. All 6 of those guys "could" but it will be tough due to playing time/age probably. #8 and #10 have almost no chance IMO. And ARod's a virtual lock, barring a major injury. He's got a good chance to do it by the end of next season--240 shy right now.

Looking at the full active list, there are 2 more in no-man's land approaching 2,000-Pujols and Michael Young. I think both will make it based on their pace/age. And then the "young 9" (plus HanRam/Markakis) which is the 2nd trivia question. Outside of those, no one's got any kind of a realistic shot at it over the next 15 years or so.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:53:15 PM)

I was gonna say Pujols already, but that can't be possible if Ichiro is only #9.

Garrett Anderson would have been on this list last year, I'm sure.

How is Jim Thome not in the Top 10? He's been playing since like 1991, hasn't he??

Todd Helton is an easy one I just now thought of.

Jason Giambi.

Matt Stairs? That would surprise me.

Orlando Cabrera?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:54:26 PM)

Omar Vizquel.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:55:28 PM)

Lance Berkman?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:56:09 PM)

Jorge Posada?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:56:23 PM)

Jason Varitek?

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:56:39 PM)

Racking up posts. Sweet.

twinsfan -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:58:38 PM)

Soriano? That feels like a stretch.

djskillz -> RE: Baseball Trivia (7/6/2011 9:58:49 PM)

Got one. Vizquel is #3. He's 169 away and is 44 years old. Will be mighty tough for him in PT duty.

Helton is #11, so no.
Orlando Cabrera #16, just over 2,000 hits.
Jason Giambi #22 with 1931.
Lance Berkman #29, with 1750, just ahead of Torii Hunter.

Still have to name #7/8/10.
