Besides the obvious of Liriano, the one that was really stupid to let get away was RA Dickey.

Slowey was one of the most dominant minor league pitchers we've ever had and one of the best control pitchers in the game. I still think he would have had a long solid career if not for the wrist surgery. He was never the same after that.

I give him respect for making to the bigs with no stuff, but even before the injury he needed 100 pitches to get through 5. I don't think he was ever going to be anything great.

We didn't need him. Let him go somewhere else to be an all star and Cy Young award winner.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (7/29/2014 2:59:47 PM)

Scott Diamond, meanwhile, has a 2.70 ERA through 2 starts for AAA Louisville (Reds). Last start on Friday: 7.1 IP-6-2-2-1-4 on 95 pitches.

Nor do I. He was a glorified junkballer, imo

Rochester is facing Louisville this weekend and I'm planning on going to see Meyer on Sunday as well as maybe Saturday's game. I sure hope Diamond isn't going for Louisville.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (7/29/2014 4:37:51 PM)

Reliever Matt Guerrier has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A, but will elect free agency rather than accepting the assignment, tweets Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com

Get ready for a bidding war boys. [&o]

Still get a chuckle out of realizing that Gardys Saviors for 2014 were
Shaggy
Kubel
Bartlett

You can't be that wrong if you flip a coin to make decisions.

You can if you keep flipping until you get the side you want.

Like the open competition between Punto and CPAMAN's shower dream.

Gardy kept flipping until Punto's face appeared.

Case closed.

????

Would that be Brendan Harris?

Gardy destroyed that kid in '08. No way he shouldn't have started coming off what he did in 2007. How Punto gets the job after what he did in '07 boggles the mind, I was excited when they got him--from Queensbury, NY.....nice town.....been to the Silo for breakfast many times......but hey....Harris did end up playing his way off the team.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (7/30/2014 9:48:22 PM)

Former Twins infielder Matt Tolbert has retired and will coach at Class A Williamsport in the Phillies organization (h/t @timmcdarby)

Yep.....ask mark about his (mark's) shower dream post about Harris.......

Who was the other member?

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (8/2/2014 6:41:38 AM)

Just checked our local jail roster, and we just took in a guy named .... Micheal Cubbage.
Cant be ... can it?
Or can there really be another one out there? [sm=scratch.gif]

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (8/2/2014 9:08:19 PM)

I see Jim Thome signed a one-day deal with the Tribe so he could retire there.
Class act.
Had some fun at-bats for us back when we still mattered. Very solid career.
Killed us as an opponent, brought us respect as a Twin.

djskillz -> RE: Former Twins News (8/4/2014 2:09:30 PM)

I still like the Meyer/May trades, but Denard Span is still a hell of a player. Hitting .294/.352/.395/.747 this year with elite defense and is 23 for 25 in steals. 29 doubles. 39 walks to 46 k's. He's absolutely a top 10 or so CF'er in the game and maybe even top 5 this year. He's currently 7th amongst CF'ers in OPS (Gomez is 3rd). Wide gap between the best two players in the game (Trout and McCuthcheon) and everyone else.

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (8/4/2014 2:46:00 PM)

Just like his Pops.

Toby Gardenhire, Head Baseball Coach at the University of Wisconsin Stout.

Finished the season 20-21.

After the last few years, he's actually better.

Cubbage didn't last long enough. He could have been marketed brilliantly. I envisioned a doll in his likeness, call it..... "The Cubbage Patch Kid"

But this is unsurprising:

Denard Span has stolen 133 career bases at a 79% success rate. However, factor in his 25 times being picked off and that drops to 68%

djskillz -> RE: Former Twins News (8/5/2014 11:57:02 AM)

Crazy, Matt. I wonder what those figures are this year.
