.696 OPS really isn't bad for a guy with his position/defense/baserunning. But still not great either.

Vastly overrated defender. He's fast - which sometimes lets him make up for taking horrible routes, and his arm is a significant liability.

He is not a good defender. And a .696 is really bad. Bad enough to kill any positives a player might have defensively

Not really true in CF. Like SS, people overlook how low the bar is in the majors and how rare good hitters are at those positions. Only 11 CF'ers in baseball have a higher OPS than .696. He's basically Austin Jackson right now.

Though Dave makes good points about his defense. Denard Span is and always has been a lot better player than him. Better baserunner, better defender and tops him in OPS by 60 points.

And neither of them on a winning team, challenging the Twins for the sucky record award.

Watching Baseball in the Dominican Republic : Carlos Gomez. Doug Melvin was just on talking about how they didn't try to make Gomez into one type of hitter and
he thinks that's why he succeeded. Nah, that can't be it! [&o]

good coaches don't try to beat the natural tendencies out of gifted players they try to enhance and refine those tendencies.

Bad coaches try to make a guy with lots of power bunt and run.

Kevin Correia update:

Since joining the Dodgers, Kevin Correia is 2-1 in 3 starts. In 14 IP, 2 BB, 12 K. Oh... and a 6.43 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.

4 2/3 innings a start.
crappy WHIP and ERA
He's probably striking out more...but doesn't sound like he's any better. The win-loss record just goes to show you how truly worthless those stats are in dterminining a pitcher's value.

David Price the other day gave up ONE run on ONE hit, complete game AND LOST. You can't blame him for that. He pitched an absolute gem.

Who got the win the other day when the Twins scored 20? Hell, a pitcher can give up 27 hits and 19 runs and still get the win under those circumstances.

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (8/27/2014 3:58:02 PM)

Kinda also shows ya .... If you can't get good pitching .... THEN AT LEAST BUILD UP YOUR OFFENSE SO YOU CAN COVER UP YOUR BAD PITCHING.

Nobody has ever proposed that in this forum, at least not you SMF........[;)]

You still need those punch and judy automatic outs who can handle the bat, look like they know what they are doing in terms of sac bunts yet fail miserably in that area, can handle the bat and run around the bases if they for some chance of the gods, actually get on base. Gardy is the master in managing guys like that.

Your response pretty much wraps up about a half-million of my posts with a tidy bow.
We are saddled with a stubborn management who won't try to bend. At all.
If you can't get pitching
Improve your offense

Did anyone watch the Hendriks vid on Strib?

"Made some delivery adjustments in ST"

Why

Why

Why can't that happen when in MN?

Anderson needs to go.

djskillz -> RE: Former Twins News (8/28/2014 5:02:03 PM)

Not that I disagree on the hitting (you need both) but the playoffs are still and will always be all about pitching.

I just happened to watch that. Rick Anderson is clearly insane

I think we need a Captain Willard to go terminate his command
