Spin: Revere's five RBI accumulated Monday is good for a full quarter of the runs he has plated this season. The center fielder is enjoying a tremendous season in Philadelphia, hitting .310 with 40 stolen bases and 60 runs scored with a month left to play.

Spin indeed.

War: .5

The guy can't get on base enough, despite the nice average, and if he can't get on base, he's essentially worthless as an offensive player.

djskillz -> RE: Former Twins News (9/3/2014 10:29:44 AM)

Statistically he's been bad in CF as well (bad routes, bad arm, etc.). Credit to DL for prompting me to look it up.

Revere vs. Dozier......I think using the word "tremendous" is spin^2.

Gladden thinks if Dozier doesn't get a gold glove, it will be a crime. Cano will get the gold glove. Is Cano better? Haven't looked at the defensive metrics but all I know is that Dozier gets to a lot of balls and turns the pivot as sweet as anyone.

Is there a better example of how batting average is over rated than the comparison above?

I'm not sure I've ever seen a guy with so little power who just doesn't walk.

29 walks in 553 PAs is his career high in the majors. And he's gone DOWN each year since then. This year he's at 11 walks in 524 PAs.

Even in the minors, 40 was his high.

I really believe part of it is pitchers have so little fear of him that he likely gets more grooved pitches than anyone in baseball. I mean the kid has 18 XBHs in 127 games. Why even worry about walking him when he's going to make an out 70% of the time, and the other 30% he's just going to get to 1st base anyways?

djskillz -> RE: Former Twins News (9/3/2014 10:45:43 AM)

Totally agree guys.

And Miles, absolutely. It's really time we start essentially throwing out batting average as a category and focus on OBP. Batting average is almost like wins for pitchers at this point.

Glaring example would be Tony Gwynn vs. Tim Raines (both great players, both should be in the HOF):

Gwynn: .338 AVG
Raines: .294 AVG

Gwynn: .388 OBP
Raines: .385 OBP

Gwynn: .370 wOBA
Raines: .361 wOBA

People think of Gwynn as this awesome player, and he was. But especially when you factor in defense and baserunning Raines was really almost identical.

Great to see JJ win another game for the O's last night.

NO ONE could hit HRs in this ball park. He HAD TO Be taught to hit the other way.

How ***** ************ *********** stupid is the Twins org???

And here we are .... Looking for a SS

And who was it that wanted to get rid of Hardy? Hmmmmmmmm. Let's think ......

I gave Hardy a standing O after his GS at Camden. One of the best moments of the season. It was a "take that, Gardy!" moment.

MDK -> RE: Former Twins News (9/5/2014 9:54:30 AM)

Well we did get a lot of return for Hardy....

And we had a shortstop in waiting from Japan.

Dead honest.
My favorite moment of the year.

That's sad.
Been here since '61

Steve Lentz -> RE: Former Twins News (9/7/2014 11:00:04 AM)

Morneau with 4 hits, 2 rbi and a HR yesterday. 2nd in the league in hitting.

He's done next to nothing in the power department. I know he's got the high average and everything but in typical Morneau fashion he stopped being a run producer during the second half.
What is it with him and that??

Can't answer that one. He has declined in power. Still 72 RBI, .489 SLG% and an .845 OPS. Hell he would lead the Twins in all 3 stats. Different venues I know.

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (9/9/2014 12:27:38 PM)

Anyone have any idea how many important hits and catches Torii Hunter has had since leaving us?
It's unreal. Another big hit yesterday.
Guy has been a warrior, and he was so far from being "done" when left here it's ridiculous.
I don't want the Tigers to win a WS but I would like to see him get a ring. He's earned one.

TJSweens -> RE: Former Twins News (9/9/2014 1:18:51 PM)

Right.....once he reached FA, he was gone. But we could have restructured and extended his contract to assure him of getting to play in TF for 81 games per season rather than the 4 or 9 he now plays.

Unbelievably dumb and that was on TR who should have extended him the year before FA.

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (9/12/2014 11:44:21 AM)

I see Revere hit another HR the other day. What's going on?

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (9/12/2014 11:45:30 AM)

On another note, I also saw Revere play an Andrew McCutchen double into an inside-the-parker. Saw it on MLB Network last night. Horribly embarrassing defensive misplay.

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (9/12/2014 11:49:28 AM)

Here's video of McCutchen's inside-the-parker.

Speed kills
Yes, yes it does.
Sometimes, in a "suicide" kind of way.

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (9/17/2014 4:13:27 PM)

Morneau with 6 RBI so far today.

Easy to forget how great a hitter he was/is:

In his 2006 MVP season from June 7 on Morneau batted a major-league best .362, with 23 home runs and 92 RBI.

That is carrying a club!

Finished the season with

.321 BA
130 RBI
34 HRs
.943 OPS
