The one embarrassing note from Cooperstown .... Thome wasted several good seconds of time talking about Punto
yuck yuck patooey

That one brief mention has made me re-think completely how I look at him.

I laughed out loud when he did that.

"Cuddy, Morneau, Mauer..............Punto!"

At this point, I feel the need to disavow any knowledge of him ever being on the Twins.

Gotta say, I did not see that coming. I watched all the HOF speeches, and mentions of teammates were pretty much saved for star players, probably so listeners wouldn't become bored. Then "Punto!" out of nowhere....I was shocked.

I'd put Lou Whitaker in the HOF a hundred times a week and twice on Sundays before I'd put Jack Morris in. Whitaker's most similar players:

Ryne Sandberg (901.4) *
Alan Trammell (868.4) *
Roberto Alomar (857.5) *
Buddy Bell (850.3)
Joe Morgan (849.5) *
Joe Torre (846.1) *
Ray Durham (845.5)
Brian Downing (843.0)
Barry Larkin (841.1) *
Jimmy Rollins (836.1)

Most similar to Sandberg, Trammell and Alomar. A lot of love for Sweet Lou yesterday. I think he will be strongly considered next time the veterans committee votes on the modern era.

I agree he should be in the hall. I wonder why the media slighted him. Was he also surly with them? Regarding Jack Morris I really am certain that his demeanor of being one mean nasty #$%^#$ helped him be a great pitcher, but also hurt him with his popularity with the media voters.

LOS ANGELES -- Brian Dozier caught the first flight out of Minnesota after being traded by the Twins to the Dodgers for Logan Forsythe and two Minor Leaguers on Tuesday. A free agent after this season, Dozier was eager to follow new boss Andrew Friedman's suggestion and report immediately to work.

Dozier arrived in the dugout for the ninth inning of the Dodgers' 1-0 loss to the Brewers. He didn't get in the game, but manager Dave Roberts said he'll be starting at second base on Wednesday night.

"I don't like days off," he said, explaining why he rushed to California.

Dozier has some adjusting to do, to a new league for sure, but also a new organization that insists its players buy in to a progressive, team-oriented approach that isn't always ideal for pending free agents to show their wares.

Then again, Dozier also will find himself on a team in a dogfight for first place, one that acquired superstar Manny Machado two weeks ago and beat the non-waiver Trade Deadline by adding Dozier as well as reliever John Axford from Toronto for another Minor Leaguer, pitcher Corey Copping.

"I told Dave, you'll get 100 percent from me," said Dozier. "Off the bench, playing every day, whatever the case may be. Whatever I can do to help this ballclub win and get to the postseason and win a world championship, that's what I'm here for."

Mr. Ed -> RE: Former Twins News (8/1/2018 6:39:23 AM)

SAN DIEGO – A day after departing Minnesota with mixed emotions, infielder Eduardo Escobar joined his new Diamondbacks teammates at Petco Park, bringing his trademark energy and positive attitude to the visitors’ clubhouse.

Escobar called it a “bad moment” to find out he’d been traded away from the Minnesota Twins, his team for parts of seven seasons.

“It’s hard when you lose your best friends, but coming here today, seeing these people right here, it’s happy to me and it’s important to me,” Escobar said. “There are really good guys here, great clubhouse here, great people here. I love it, I love it.”

The Diamondbacks are hoping his offensive production and well-rounded game arrives with him in due course. Manager Torey Lovullo had Escobar hitting in the fifth spot in the lineup and playing third base for his debut on Saturday, and he said Escobar will get the bulk of the playing time at third – and likely hit in that area of the lineup – for the foreseeable future.

Some of Escobar’s personality came out during a session with reporters before Saturday’s game. A day earlier, Escobar’s winter ball teammate, infielder Ildemaro Vargas, spilled the beans about Escobar’s fear of cats. Escobar didn’t deny it.

“One million percent I’m afraid of cats,” he said. “Since I was a little kid in Venezuela, I’ll see a cat and start running. I’m so nervous. I don’t like to see a cat.”

It’s not too unusual for a stray cat to find its way into a baseball stadium and interrupt play, and Escobar said that happened once while he was playing in winter ball.

“I’m playing shortstop and saw one cat on the left-field line,” he said. “I saw the cat, but I’m walking to second base because I’m afraid. But the manager saw me and said, ‘Where are you going?’ ‘I’m running because this cat is coming to me.’ I don’t like cats.”

Informed that the Diamondbacks’ mascot, Baxter, is a cat, Escobar smiled.

“That’s different!” he said. “It’s a little different.”

Two awesome dudes.
Great pic, Ed
Thanks for the stories on them.
Hope they both get rings somewhere.
Two perfect pieces of a TEAM that are difficult to find.
When you have them, smart people keep them and worry about the other pieces.
Looking forward to following them both in the next couple years.

Hmmm....wonder if he would have had the same team-first attitude with the Twins. Looks like Mr. Dozier has been humbled.

SoMnFan -> RE: Former Twins News (8/1/2018 8:29:20 AM)

Doziers done nothing to deserve that kind of bullshit.
Stay classy, San Diegooooo

Lance Lynn came in, in the 3rd on AUG 1 for the Yanks, Sonny Gray had given up 4 runs

•The Phillies announced (Twitter link) that infielder Trevor Plouffe has been outrighted to Triple-A after clearing waivers. Plouffe was designated for assignment on Tuesday to create roster room for newly-acquired southpaw Aaron Loup. After signing a minors contract with the Phils in April, Plouffe cracked the 25-man roster and appeared in seven games (12 PA) for the team. The clear highlight of this brief stint was Plouffe’s three-run walkoff homer to end a 16-inning marathon against the Dodgers on July 24.

Guess not.

LHP Andrew Albers has agreed to a two-year, $4.5 million extension with the Orix Buffaloes in Japan, sources tell The Athletic. Deal can be worth up to $5.5 million.

It's obvious that a-hole didn't really want to be with the Twins. He was just picking up a paycheck.
