There's a reason he hasn't been brought up. How in the heck do we find some more pitching?

Skilz, it's great to see that your scanner is working again. That thing sure has seemed to go on the fritz a lot over the years.

Meyer should have been up last year. He was really dominant for a stretch. I actually am worried there's an injury that hasn't been diagnosed yet. We keep wasting his bullets in the minors. There's only so many on a guy that throws upper 90's and is 6'9".

Unfortunately I'm close to giving up on Meyer. Injury or no, it's not good. An injury is even worse news than "he's just struggling," right? I liked the Span trade. We played the odds on a top prospect. Unfortunately it came up snake eyes.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/11/2015 9:44:46 AM)

Milone is a AAAA guy for me still. Or suited best for long relief. You know, Duensing's role... I still think our pen is very solveable in-house.

Call Meyer up for the rotation. Sink or swim. Unless he's hurt.
Call Oliveros up.
Put May in the pen.
Very, very soon: bring Berrios up. Possibly even before Meyer if he's hurt. He's about ready IMO.
Jettison Nolasco.
In the next month or so, bring up Zach Jones.
Jettison Duensing/

Rotation:
Gibson
Hughes
Meyer/Berrios
Pelfrey
Nolasco (only until Santana is back, then cut loose)

Pen:
Perkins
Fien
Tonkin
Oliveros
Graham
May
Milone
Jones in the wings. Meyer too if he doesn't get it together.

While we're at it, time for Hicks/Pinto/Rosario full-time too.

C-Pinto, 1b-Mauer, 2b-Dozier, SS-Santana, 3b-Plouffe, RF-Hunter, CF-Hicks, LF-Rosario, DH-Vargas. Bench: plenty of AB's still for Arcia (400 or so-DH/LF/RF/1b), Suzuki (300 or so), Escobar (300 or so), Nunez (150 or so). That's a really, really good bench. Maybe the best the Twins have ever had. And it's only going to get better once Buxton/Sano/Polanco are ready too.

I always thought people undervalued Span. He's in the top half of CF'ers in the game IMO, at a minimum. But I still wouldn't give up on this trade yet. A guy Meyer's size and length is always going to go through inconsistency. But it's not over yet, not by a long shot.

Mackey is pitching a similar theory on Meyer. He says the Twins messed up Meyer's head by not calling him up last season when he was successful. Therefore Meyer wondered "what do I have to do?" So he was depressed and tried some new things and it all fell apart. Kind of like the Brandon Harris theory, except applied to a pitcher and a prospect. Wetmore asks, isn't that a sign of mental weakness on the prospect? Mackey did not have a solid rebuttal.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/11/2015 9:47:57 AM)

I tend to agree that's what has happened here, if not an injury. We have not handled our best prospects well at all for years now development-wise. Hopefully that all changes with Molitor.

We'd probably have fallen into one or two more wins if we had Pinto out there instead of Suzuki. I really looked at Suzuki's stats this season for the first time when I went to the game on Thursday. U-G-L-Y. But he's doing a wonder for our pitchers, I'm sure.

Sadly, TRyan will probably want a 1/2 season in AAA first. There should be no one there stopping him from advancing right now.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/11/2015 9:56:01 AM)

Yep, Ed. I'd like to see him up very soon. He's got nothing left to prove IMO. I'd probably move Reed up as well. Let Burdi get more time in AA.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/11/2015 10:18:06 AM)

Miguel Sano turns 22 today. He is in Double-A.

Bryce Harper turned 22 in October. He has 1,627 #MLB plate apps, 66 career homers.

Miguel Sano has lifted his batting average 48 points in four games since Terry Ryan's arrival. TR following the team to Birmingham, I'm told

Since Ryan's arrival, @ChattLookouts are 4-0. #MNTwins GM is scheduled to watch them play 3 more games over next 2 days at Birmingham.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/11/2015 10:22:05 AM)

Well, not that I disagree with the sentiment, but it's a little unfair to compare any guy (even Sano) to Bryce Harper. I've done it myself on a grander scale with Buxton/Trout. Trout IMO may go down as the greatest position player in the history of the game. But as high as I am on Buxton, I don't "expect" that out of him. That's just an impossible standard.

If not for the Elbow Injury and a lost year he might be up already. I am glad Terry went down there to encourage him....

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/11/2015 11:05:17 AM)

He's always going to have some strikeout issues, but I do think it's mainly rust. You could see the same with Buxton earlier this year and it just took him a bit to get back to being comfortable, get his timing down, etc. You could immediately see a couple of tweaks from him from early in the year to now (well, as of a week ago).

Sorry Dustin, he was same last year, good game, bad game. Never close to dominating the level to warrant a call up. Now he did have some games that he out performed May, but not close to as consistent as May.

If Meyer is "wearing out" already, he was never worth a damn in the first place.

No one will argue that both Nolasco and Duensing should be "jettisoned" as you call it Dustin. But these are TR signings and "dadgummit, they stay for the tenure of their contracts".

Amazing that a player can be productive before they age 28. Another four or five years of seasoning and Sano "may" be ready.
