Was dinged some, so best thing happening is, he's been healthy.

I was happy to see Williams' outing. And Stewart, despite a lack of K's, continues to be solid. Would like to see Williams and Eades both up to AA very soon. Get those guys moving. Which also means promoting some of the CHAT guys.

or cutting some. Chatt pitching outside of Berrios has not been that great.

Duffey at AAA is getting knocked around as well.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 11:20:08 AM)

Yep. Bunch of guys on their last straws at both AA and AAA right now. Let's see some movement.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 12:07:59 PM)

3B Miguel Sano, Double-A Chattanooga:

- After hitting .159 with six extra-base hits in April, Sano busted out with a .303 average, five homers and 14 extra-base hits in May. He's continued to impress in June, batting .296 with a .962 OPS through eight games with the Lookouts. The Twins wanted Sano to strike out less this year than he did in his first stab at Double-A in 2013, and so far, he's accomplished that, cutting his punchout rate from 29.3 percent to around 24 percent.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 12:09:23 PM)

Adam Brett Walker , rf

no one can doubt Walker’s power. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound slugger can match teammate Miguel Sano’s power displays in batting practice and already has 16 home runs this season, which ranks best in the minors. But Walker has a long way still to go to prove that power will play in the big leagues. He is striking out in 36 percent of the time this year, and he doesn’t draw many walks. Walker’s power is great, but he needs to show that he can make at least a little more contact if he’s going to make it from Double-A to Target Field.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 1:12:12 PM)

With Tonkin back to #MNTwins, RHP Cole Johnson has been promoted from @ChattLookouts to @RocRedWings to take his spot.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 1:12:50 PM)

Congrats to Minnesotan Brandon Peterson (@BPeterson_12) on his promotion to AA Chattanooga! At FM, 0.85 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 44 K /31.2 IP.

That's one way to get the ball rolling. Get rid of Stauffer, and start moving guys up.

When is Duensing on the chopping block?

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 1:23:17 PM)

The rookie leagues starting is going to start getting some movement going too.

Good stuff on Sano/Walker, Stacey. Sano's definitely shaken off the rust at this point. Not long for him now. Walker would get eaten alive by ML pitching right now, IMO. Needs to cut that K rate at least a little. If he's striking out 36 percent of the time in AA, that's going to be something near 50 percent in the majors. That doesn't work.

Not nearly soon enough. I think MN doesn't have a ton of confidence in the LH guys in the minors yet. Perhaps Milone will bump to that role when Erv is ready.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 1:29:08 PM)

You really have to wonder what Oliveros has to do to earn a shot at this point, too. The dude keeps getting it done. Good stuff. And he's 27.

http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Wetmore_Things_to_consider_when_contemplating_calling_up_Byron_Buxton061215

My quick take: all players have flaws and we could spend an enormous amount of time talking about what a certain is not able to do. Often times I prefer to focus on his strengths and what he can do. I think Buxton could help the Twins with his centerfield defense and base running. I don't know that I'm ready to say he's their best option, or that a hasty call-up is best for his long-term development and value to the organization.

Even with Rosario and Hicks playing well in the field, it's fair to wonder if Buxton would be an overall upgrade right now. The way Torii Hunter is hitting, he belongs in the lineup every day, but maybe he'd be best served to have more days at DH. The Twins should continue to navigate the difficult waters of striking a compromise between what's best for the 2015 team and what's best for Buxton and the 2016 teams and beyond.

It's a delicate balance. But the 'bring up Buxton now' bandwagon will continue to get more and more passengers.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/12/2015 2:06:00 PM)

I still say wait. He's done well, but hasn't really gotten on that Buxton roll that we know he's capable of. As soon as he does for a couple weeks (whether that's now or in August) that's when I make the move.

This speed is insane. And from the right-handed batter's box, too...

This is the great thing about having the AA team in the Southern League again. The old O' Twins was where the organization used to separate the men from the boys. If Buxton dominates the SL, he can make the jump to the bigs.

twinsfan -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/13/2015 8:40:50 PM)

Getting a glimpse of future Twin Storm Wilson in Willmar tonight.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/13/2015 9:01:38 PM)

With ya, Sweens.

Will be interesting to see what Chattanooga does for CF now. Do you try Kepler there? They don't seem to have another option.

Edit: I see Kepler is playing CF tonight. Goodrum FINALLY playing tonight there, at DH.

What I'd do?

Have Kepler play CF, keep Walker in a corner spot, move Harrison back to 3b and see if he can do anything there for depth, and put Sano in RF for a bit and see if he can handle it.

A Walker/Kepler/Sano OF would probably be pretty horrendous defensively for Chattanooga, but who cares? Sano has to be fairly close with his bat. And I just can't see him (nor should he) replacing Plouffe at 3b, so his options are DH/corner OF/longterm, 1b. I'd see if he can be Hunter's replacement in RF for next year. I think a combo of Buxton and Hicks/Rosario (likely Eddie) could hide him for a couple years defensively. Then you make the transition to 1b for him.

With Harrison, ya, he struggled at 3b before, but this organization has no one else for 3b depth behind Plouffe, and Harrison's probably still at least a year away. I'd see if we can build some depth there. I don't see him passing any of Kepler/Sano/Hicks/Rosario/Arcia as an overall corner OF'er, so it's 3b in a few years (depth) or trade bait for him IMO.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/13/2015 9:09:39 PM)

Scratch that. Forgot Goodrum's up at CHAT now. I'd play him at 3b. Maybe call Harrison up to Rochester, and have him play 3b there.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/13/2015 9:18:18 PM)

BTW, now you can definitely cut Sugar Shane in a couple weeks when Hicks is back. That becomes a really strong group.

Buxton/Rosario/Hunter/Arcia/Hicks in the OF. Cut Schafer and Robinson. Good matchups with L/R too. Rosario and Arcia from the left side. Buxton/Hunter from the right. Hicks from both.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/13/2015 10:21:33 PM)

After Buxton called up today, lots of CHAT cats say "what about me?"

Polanco batting leadoff now. 2 for 4 with a stolen base (and a CS).
Goodrum 2 for 4 with a steal in his CHAT debut. Great to see.
Sano 1 for 2 with a double and a walk, and a steal.
Kepler 0 for 2 but 2 BB.
And Walker with his 17th HR. To go with 3 K's. He is what he is.

Wimmers with a great outing. 7.2 IP with 2 hits and 2 BB, 9 k's. But he SHOULD do this. He's 26!
Zach Jones continues to be my future Twins' closer candidate (unless Meyer goes to relief). IP with a K, no hits.
