Yes, look at the talent. As above. It's pretty even over the years among our top prospects. I didn't include our other top prospects (Meyer/May/Hicks) as well who were also drafted, just not by us. But even Meyer/May were received from our draft picks in Revere/Span.

And those numbers are skewed. The draft pool isn't $10M. It was $7.3M (for the entire draft) for the Twins this year. And the international pool hasn't been restricted like that until only the last couple years. So most of the guys we're talking about didn't fall under that (ie Sano/Polanco/Kepler, etc.). Plus, your success rate better be better. These are guys that in some cases you are training with, dealing with in YOUR academies from the time they're 8-10 years old. Plus it's unlimited. The draft you can only get what guys are in front of you.

And you can also mention Minier and Diaz

And you can note Chargois and Jones

And back and forth.,

I still contend the international scouts are doing a better job.

The Twins draft too many college guys, especially last 3 years, that don't progress. At all.

That's why Cabbage and Blankenhorn being drafted and signed is a very good sign of MN probably changing some of that thinking.

Right now in GCL, They're playing next to each other, Cabbage at 3rd, Blankenhorn at SS

This explains that the draft pool of 7.7 Million this year was for the first 10 picks....not the total draft.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 4:43:32 PM)

Yep. Don't get me wrong, Ed. We've done well there. I just don't think it's by much, if at all, as a percentage. Of course we've had a real advantage in the draft lately having so many high picks in each round.

I am not saying that the Int players are better---our international scouts have done better with less is the point Dustin.

Says right at the top:

Draft signing bonus pools
The amount allotted to each team to spend on the first 10 rounds of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft:

Possibly. I just don't think it's by much if at all. But either way we need to do well in both. I just want you to realize that we do sign a lot more international guys than just the big ones that you hear about. I'll stop.

I want our amateur scouts to start doing better....Berrios was someone the Int Scouts found too (even though he was drafted in the Amateur Draft).

Rosario probably was, too.

Those guys are from Puerto Rico. That's America.

Nah, no way any good scouts would have noticed them. They didn't play in college. [;)]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 4:59:42 PM)

I hope the Vandy kid gets going soon. There is also some room for a good first baseman on the depth chart.

Cannot believe how little is there at A ball. Larson was hoped to be a young guy that would stud out.

But there is a lot of filler there now. a couple of really disappointing years of picking guys in those groups.

Offensively

Pitching, much more promise. A lot of Potential depth. ESP in the starters.

At Kentucky

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 5:00:32 PM)

I'm pretty sure the international scouts cover Puerto Rico. Logistically it just makes more sense.

McMurfy -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 5:01:22 PM)

I'm hoping Sano plays 1st Base for the Twins for the next 17 years

You're not going to walk us down the path to inter species sex again are you?

You mean eventually they will be saying that Wally Pipp got Joe Mauered?

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 5:15:46 PM)

Berrios had a cousin at Kentucky...

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 5:16:12 PM)

And it's probably where Eddie "Hit Man" gets his supply.

Who knows. I've been watching Justified on my ipad.
Lots of Kentucky there, and it's a Full Moon.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 5:29:08 PM)

Couple of buddies here from Kentucky. They say it's uncanny how true that show is about a few of the places.

I lived in Louisville from age 2 until age 6.
Thank God the Burlington Northern RR transferred my Dad when they did.

Never been back, but I'd love to take in the Derby sometime and maybe a distillery or two

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 5:40:55 PM)

Did not know that Murf. Louisville isn't bad, actually. Decent small city. But as I'm sure you know, it's way different than pretty much everywhere else in Kentucky.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 6:53:23 PM)

Javier is ranked 3rd on ESPN's international pool. I do wish we had a chance at Alvarez. Everyone seems to think he'll be a beast:

3. Wander Javier, SS, Dominican Republic
Height: 6-0 | Weight: 165
Birthdate: Dec. 29, 1998

Javier is the best bet in the class to remain at shortstop; he has the essential range, actions and arm strength for the position. His swing is a mess, likely a product of bad habits brought on by a desire to hit for more power in showcases than his frame would allow without mechanical overcompensation. It has gotten better as Javier's body has developed -- something that happens rapidly for many 16-year-olds -- and is trending in the direction of viability.

There's obviously plenty of time for the team that signs Javier -- rumored to be the Minnesota Twins -- to make those adjustments and get Javier hitting for contact now while his power can naturally develop as his body matures. He's a future 50 hitter (on the 20-to-80 scouting scale) with fringe-average pull power and above-average defense at shortstop.

Top suitor: Minnesota
