You like this signing, Phil? I wonder how this affects Gordon. Does Javier stick at SS?

I think he plays somewhere else it sounds....another big SS that can hit.

He's 16. Plenty of time to figure that one out.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 3:28:24 PM)

I don't think it is as big as the Sano signing (everyone was raving about him)...but we will see. I am most impressed with the Twins International scouts.

Danny Santana, Polanco, Arcia, Vargas, Sano, Kepler....International guys have produced more than the regular amateur drafts.

Black 47 -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 3:28:46 PM)

Geez, didn't realize he was 16. My oldest child is 16. Just a baby. Crazy teams are signing kids this young!

Again, Phil, I'm not sure this is really true. There are about 25-30 signings of each category each year. The signings have the guys above, plus Thorpe. But the draft has Buxton/Rosario/Berrios/Stewart/Gordon/Gonsalves/Jones, etc. IMO they're about even. If you rank them in terms of tradeability, you probably rank them something like:

Buxton-Draft
Berrios-Draft
Sano-Signing
Kepler-Signing
Rosario-Draft
Arcia-Signing
Stewart-Draft
Gordon-Draft
Polanco-Signing
Santana-Signing
Vargas-Signing
Gonsalves-Draft
Jones-Draft

Javier has a decent chance to stick at SS, much better than Sano's chances at at least.

Just heard from a well-placed source that Miguel Sano will be getting the call up to the Twins.

They draft what 40-50 guys in the Amateur portion and sign about 10 in the Int portion each year. I think we know who has had more success....just look at the Twins.

I forgot Pinto too.

There you go.

Matt enjoy Sano in KC.

Can he play the OF? [:D]

What SHOULD have already been done:

Sano getting a few OF and first base games.

But, no, 3rd, which he's a near butcher at, and DH.

Sigh

No. This is where your numbers are off. They sign about 25-30 out of the international pool every year. Every team does. And most teams sign about 20-25 of their draft picks. So the numbers are the same. That's what I've been trying to tell you for a couple years now on that.

They have 4 Million dollars and are using all of it on this one player this year unless they trade for more pool money.......how is that 20-25 players?

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (7/1/2015 4:27:34 PM)

1) That won't be the case. They'll sign other guys.
2) We're talking about the past. They've been signing about 20-25 international guys per year for a long time now. Like just about every other organization. You just don't hear about anyone but the "big" ones, just like you don't hear about guys past the 10th rd of the draft or so...because no one cares.

I'm not saying we haven't had success in international pool signings (we have) but the numbers are not really skewed in its favor vs. the draft as an overall percentage.

Even if that is the case...look at the talent.

The Twins are allowed $10 million pool for signing the top 10 rounds of the amateur draft.....$4 million pool total for the Int Signings.....who is doing a better job with that much less money??????
