Now that Honda has cleared waivers it's time to trade him and bring up Garver.

What is Honda's value? His catching defense is widely known as perhaps the worst amongst ML catchers whether they be regular or backup catchers. He hits a little, so a backup catcher, PH off the bench is his ceiling. He maybe brings a low-A to high-A prospect and within that group probably a #7-#10 prospect within any organization's farm system-at best.

A-ball guy not in the top 10.

He has little value outside of durability and some hitting skills.

That's enough value for me. They're going to suck with or without him and he won't be around when they don't suck any more so may as well get something for him.

Sure would be nice if one of these finally could get it figured out.

I have read people say Buxton has proven all he can prove in AAA and I disagree. Going into this season he had a grand total of 55 at bats in Rochester. Granted he hit .400 in those 55 at bats, but what Brant Alyea did in 1970 during the month of April is even more impressive. Saying Buxton mashed AAA pitching is one thing. Acting as though he's mastered that level is a presumptuous at best. I'll be a prick and say "small sample size"
Would that not apply in this case?

Buxton OBVIOUSLY needs more development time. After reading his comments from an article last week there is no reason why he should be up with the big club. His comments were basically screaming....."I'm not ready"

In that regard ... have they even won while he's been there?
Looks like nightly they could use a couple hits and a couple runs out of him .
Figure that out, and then we will come down and talk to you again.
Yes, this is all about development individually, but in the end, what do you bring to a team? Do you make a difference?

He has been rushed and I blame Ryan. He had a total of 13 games at AAA (time in AAA matters, I don't care what anyone says) before this season. It was not enough to determine anything. I gave the Alyea example, then there is Smalley in '79. Was he hitting like .380 in early June or something along those lines? Then in 1980 there was Ken Reitz. He came out of the gate like a house on fire, but.........he's Ken Reitz. Those guys had prolonged hot streaks. Buxton's was for 55 at bats!

Buxton had moderate success in AA last year hitting .283, but that was actually his first go 'round at AA. He was injured and carted off that field in his only AA before that. It was not really necessary to promote him to AAA last season. He needed a full year in AA, imo. Now he is all screwed up, being asked to beat the ball into the ground and all that

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/19/2016 11:32:14 AM)

Zach Jones continues to pitch well at AA.

And "SethTweets" still lists him at 50/50 for being added to the 40-man roster, citing a number of guys whose lengthy minors careers are at the Rule 5 point.

me?

Easy to find guys to lop off and make room for a bullpen guy who misses bats.

50/50? Puh-leeze.
