As Dustin said, a college pitcher in low A can do wonderful things out there. We'll see how it translates as he moves up. I have never seen anyone control a back door slider, breaking ball, and fastball plus change speed on all of them. Then when he didn't have his stuff he would throw in a forkball/splitter. Still struck out batters left and right when he topped out at 87 in his late years.

Yep, a pitcher like Maddux, who can transform from young power pitcher to savvy vet control pitcher, absolutely dominate and win over 300 games in the process is about as rare as it gets in baseball. Just a great career.

Just a great career. I have seen Maddux throw a knuckle curve---you name the pitch Maddux could throw it. Most pitchers throw 3 maybe four pitches. I think I watched one game where Maddux just threw is cutter, backup slider, and curveball against the Twins after they put up 4 runs off him early in his last years. He basically refused to throw his regular fastball the rest of the game and that was all we scored.
