Great story.

If baseball doesn't work out, how about a MN Vikings Linebacker?

He was so-so in Rook Ball in Eliz.

Apparently didn't hit upper 90s very often either.

Is that because they have to tear down his mechanics and build him back up?

Probably. It's the Twins way.

You mean like when they took off at least 2 mph from Jesse Crain's fastball cause Rick Anderson knew better?

Rosario, the No. 10 prospect in the Twins' organization, went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.
In 11 games this season, Rosario is hitting .435 and has eight multihit games and eight stolen bases.
"He's off to a great start," Haines said of the lefty-batting Rosario. "He just has a good at-bat up there, whether he's facing a righty or lefty, he competes. Very competitive at-bats every time he steps in there and likes to play."

I sure wish he was playing second but still great to see.

Buxton getting his timing back?

3 for 5 with a double today as well as 2 steals. Just so good to see him back playing so he can get comfortable and be ready to roll in the spring. Can't wait to see him live again next week!

Rosario/Kepler off.
Adam 1 inning of relief. 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K

Buxton needs to start hitting. He was not impressive before his injury last season. He's got all the tools you could ever want but he has to be a hitter if he's going to be a "Stud"

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/26/2014 10:36:55 AM)

I think you are not understanding what a great hitter he is. He was one of the best hitters in all of the minor leagues in 2013. Hitting isn't some tool that he still has to get. It's a major part of why he's the best prospect in the game and one of the best prospects in the last 20 years. Last year, he wasn't healthy all year. He sustained wrist injuries twice (the worst thing you can have as a hitter) and the first one was I believe in spring training. So in essence, he was "hurt" all year. The only concerning thing is that probably his best tool as a hitter is how quick his hands/wrists are. That's why he's able to generate good power from a (right now) skinny frame. They need to have him stop sliding head first because as good as he is with his elite speed, his hands are more important. He'll be fully healthy in ST and will hit again if the wrists are healed.

ewen21 -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/26/2014 10:57:27 AM)

Dustin, you may or may not recall Wethrock making a post earlier this year. He has seen quite a lot of minor league baseball himself and he mentioned Dan Driessen. To him Driessen was one of the best players he saw in the minor leagues but then a series of injuries changed his career. A more recent and closer to home example is Jason Kubel. Who knows what could have been if his ACL didn't explode in the AFL almost ten years ago to the day?

Saying he's a great hitter and a stud is really cute and all but I'd prefer to let things play out as I do not have a crystal ball. He's been a very good hitter at the low levels of the minors as a very young man and I was excited about that. Some things have happened lately that concern me. You insist the injuries and the tail off last year won't be a problem. I can't say for sure because I have been around long enough to know that things happen.

Optimism is nice and I like that you bring it to the board, but please don't paint me as being wrong or a pessimist simply because I choose to temper my optimism. I simply said he needs to hit. How can I be wrong about that one?

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/26/2014 11:02:10 AM)

Of course he needs to hit. But he has. My point is that you seem to be insinuating that that's a tool he still needs to acquire or get. It's not. He needs to get healthy; that's the ONLY thing keeping him from a very fast track to the major leagues. If he doesn't get hurt last year, I believe we're talking about him as our starting CF on opening day this year. And a good one at that. The kid is that good, Ralph. This isn't "just another prospect". This is the best prospect in all of baseball. It would be a monumental failure for him not to be at least a solid regular MLB player at this point, and likely much more than that. Watch him in person and you'll be a believer too.

ewen21 -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/26/2014 11:10:44 AM)

Dustin, you are drawing your own conclusions there and you are off base if you are reading that in my post. I don't doubt his talent for a second. I am simply saying that anything CAN happen on the way up. Lots of guys with tons of talent in the low minors end up not dominating the majors for a variety of reasons. It's happened since before you and I were born. Wethrock gave a great example this summer:

quote:

ORIGINAL: wethrock

If Buxton is the good hitter for average that his numbers seem to indicate, Twins need to be really sure his wrist is fully healed before playing him. I remember seeing Dan Driessen (Cincinnati) on the way up; 1 of the best looking hitters I've seen in AA. First couple of years in majors were .300s; then had some type of hand/wrist injury for a couple of months; after that he was just an ordinary guy for the rest of his career.

If I have learned one thing in this world over the last several years it is that tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone. I'd be careful with making the assumption that any minor league player is a sure bet. Let's not start engraving his plaque in Cooperstown just yet

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/26/2014 11:15:13 AM)

Not doing that at all, Ralph. But if healthy, I fully "expect" him to be a great player. Obviously nothing is ever guaranteed. But let's just say he's in the upper percentile for betting on it.

ewen21 -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/26/2014 11:24:50 AM)

YOu said I didn't understand that he already had the hitting tool in place. I also did not forget about the wrist problems. It is why I posted what Wethrock said this summer.

I don't think I am being negative at all and I am certainly not wrong in having concerns about how he rebounds from those injuries. As I said, young players can get sidetracked for a variety of reasons. We can play the "IF HEALTHY" game but at the end of the day where does that get us? We could both say Jason Kubel might have been one of the best hitters of the last decade if he didn't get hurt in the AFL almost exactly ten years ago. I would argue that one event changed his career forever. What happens with Buxton remains to be seen and you can't say I'm wrong about that

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 5:47:06 AM)

3-3 tie for Salt River in the game Buxton got an owie. He was 1-4/SB(5), Kepler 2-5/R/RBI, Rosairo 1-5/R

Adam IP BB
Reed IP H/K
Jones IP 2H/BB

Hicks at .273 7BB/5K/HR/2RBI, 8 singles
Parmelee 5-11 in the Dominican League
Romero 5-14 in the Dominican League

No pitchers of note- because they don't have any of note participating.

sixthwi -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 6:19:15 AM)

Obviously the AFL All star game is based on reputation not production - Buxton made it and Rosario didn't.

And right on cue, Buxton dislocates a finger in yesterday's game. [X(]

They're going to go Ronnie Lott.

Amputate the finger and get back in there. [:D]

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 8:49:48 AM)

I hope not. I was planning on seeing both the game on Friday and the AS game on Saturday. If he's not playing, I'll probably just cancel my flight.

twinsfan -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 8:54:22 AM)

Has it been confirmed as a dislocation? And if so, is that good or bad news?

Nothing I have read here today says dislocated finger....just "injured" finger.

The MLB Network scroll last night specifically said dislocated finger.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 8:59:53 AM)

Ya, I'm sure they'll hold him out almost no matter what for precautionary reasons. What's the point of playing 1-2 games at this point?

Uggh. I may go anyway for Rosario/Kepler/Jones/Reed.
