Ya, I'm sure they'll hold him out almost no matter what for precautionary reasons. What's the point of playing 1-2 games at this point?

Uggh. I may go anyway for Rosario/Kepler/Jones/Reed.

Hopefully Buxton still shows up for pre-game so you can at least be in his presence.

Bring a baseball for signature or something.

I just want to see him play live again, man. Autographs are not my thing. These guys are no better than you and me. Just a different (and unique) talent.

I don't get hurt as often as he does. But other than that, I'll give Buxton the nod.

Maybe he needs to learn to put his pants on, one leg at a time, rather than jumping into them.....then he won't be injured as much.

Any other old cliches we can use for Buxton?

And probably true, Miles. I mean, it may be made up, but how many of these guys even know what the Periodic Table is?

If anyone gets a chance to see Buston play in Fall ball it could be their last chance to see this guy play. He is an injury waiting to happen. He embarrasses Joe Mauer.

Keep it classy, Mark.

Just waiting to collect my $100 wine and dine bet with you on Hicks and Buston. The way things are going, it could be as soon as next September. [sm=beerfoam.gif]

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 9:41:53 AM)

Mark as a trainer: "ACL? Eh, just get back out there, pansy."

"3rd concussion? It's just a head injury. Shouldn't effect your legs and arms. Keep playing or just go ahead and retire, sissy."

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/28/2014 9:13:10 PM)

Salt River 14-2 win

Kepler 1-4/triple/BB/2R/3RBI, Rosario 2-5/double/R/RBI

Family Matters For Twins

October 26, 2014 by Phil Miller

MINNEAPOLIS—
Baseball is a family game, and to the Twins, that philosophy applies on the field as much as in the stands.

“We believe in bloodlines, definitely,” vice president of player personnel Mike Radcliff said. “Guys who grew up around the game have an automatic feel for how to be a professional, for how to handle themselves in the clubhouse and on the field.”

Their faith in pedigrees was obvious at Rookie-level Elizabethton, where Nick Gordon, son of former major league righthander Tom Gordon and brother of Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon, played shortstop, and Dereck Rodriguez, son of former American League MVP Ivan Rodriguez, pitched out of the bullpen.

Another ballplayer-by-birth, one without such a well-known surname, played first base and the outfield for the E-Twins: Trey Vavra, 23, son of Twins’ third-base coach Joe Vavra. “He’s a natural, just like the others,” Radcliff said. “His hitting has been impressive.”

It’s not entirely unexpected considering his father’s skill, though he never reached the majors as an infielder in the Dodgers system and spent seven seasons as the Twins’ hitting coach. (The elder Vavra’s future with the team, however, is uncertain after manager Ron Gardenhire was fired following the season.) But 33rd-round picks, as Vavra was in June, don’t normally break into the pros by slashing 20 doubles in 209 plate appearances.

“He’s got great mechanics, of course. He knows what he’s doing at the plate,” Radcliff said. “He can use the whole field, and he’s got power to his pull side, to left field.”

Vavra’s brother Tanner was selected by the Twins a year earlier, and played second base at low Class A Cedar Rapids. Trey is bigger and has more power, but the Twins haven’t settled on a position for him. .

TWIN KILLINGS

Center fielder Aaron Hicks elected to play the first several weeks of the Venezuelan League. Hicks, who is playing for Bravos de Margarita, disappointed the Twins last winter by choosing not to play winter ball.

This is the first time anyone w/ the Strib has noted that Hicks is playing winter ball.

Gee whiz, impressive as a 23 year old in Rookie ball.

I sure as heck hope so.

Don't EVER get this. He'll be in The MW league and turn 24 next season.

Old already.

I bet he'd hit, like, .500 in a Babe Ruth league right now. THAT'S TALENT!

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/29/2014 10:46:15 AM)

Same Twins EVERY draft

A bunch of college guys who hit 26 and are still in FTM or AA, because they back-log and don't push them enough

CPAMAN -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/29/2014 11:17:11 AM)

Buston is taking some heat on the Star Trib forum. Comparisons to Joe Mauer are not limited to this chat discussion. [&:]

Hicks .257 and fading [;)]

9 walks/5K's

.409 OBP

.343 SLG

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/29/2014 11:46:25 AM)

The only things that matter are walks and OBP, so Hicks is golden.

I'm just more Lombardi-esque in my approach to nonsense.

Getting your ass kicked in your own front yard by your teammate?

Lombardi not Lombardozi you bone head!

Dave E -> RE: Players and prospects III (10/29/2014 12:16:30 PM)

Hmmm...would you buy the story that I assumed you misspelled Lombo's name?

When he corrected you he did mispell Lombardozzi's name.
