Don't forget we need corners. We lost three to free agency.

And Hughes has not shown any ability to stay healthy through a whole season.

At least the new drug policy may allow Hill to play more often.

Wouldn't it be awesome if we hit a home run WR selection with the pick we got from Buffalo. A WR as good as Diggs and maybe 1 fifth his salary plus the additional picks thrown in. A man can dream.

I predict that Hughes will play at least 14 games this season.

CB is by far a bigger need. We have some young talented players but you are talking about replacing four full-time starters from last year (if we trade Harris), regardless of how they played. Diggs is a vast hole to fill but its one hole, a committee approach will be ok IF the OL is fixed ... IMO the second biggest need after CB. Actually, the two are too close to call.

Although ... keep in mind ... as long as we have succubus Dillon Mitchell with negative WR talent on the roster, we will be hurting at that position. I’m not familiar with black hole theory but, according to astrophysicists, Mitchell brings the same skill set.

Still - we have one very good player at WR and Sharpe / Johnson, battling for #s 3-4. We are one high draft pick and whatever else comes our way by the season opener in January from NOT hurting at WR. That’s very faint praise. But it is what it is.

Agreed. Even if we were to believe those two will perform at an acceptable level (not at all a given), there is no historical data to say they will be in the lineup a significant number of games.

And it's not even the number of games missed with Hughes as much as him ending both his seasons on IR.

Sure, its awesome if he plays 14-16 games, but if we make the Playoffs and he's unavailable, what's the point?

True, it hasn't just been nagging injuries keeping Hughes out of the lineup. Both years, the injuries were the "season ending" variety.

Having watched 50 years of football, I have surprisingly little knowledge of the game. Here's one thing I know: you need at least one WR with scary speed.

Yep.

Ruggs, Hamler or Goodwin(SF trade) would fit the bill.

IMO we have 2 OK CBs with potential. We have one good WR zero depth behind him. By that math WR is the bigger need of the two. We have zero adequate guards.
Needs in order.
Guard
WR
CB

We need to take advantage of this great WR class and draft two kind of early. Maybe another late. If we replaced every WR other than Thielen on the roster that would be a good thing.

It's OK if you see it differently.

You can make a wild guess how the Vikings view our young players but the bottomline is:

Top 3 WRs from last year: 1 gone ... with one FA just added to the mix.

Top 3 CBs from last year: 3 gone ... with zero added to the mix.

Solid. Rhodes though should have an asterisk in that he was 'top' because he was a starter, knew the scheme, blind-faith, blah, blah. But really a guy selling beer at the stadium would have done just as well.

Picks 22/25: OL/CB
Pick 58: WR (if there really is the much ballyhooed 'depth' in this WR class)
Trade up and get a DT.

It's OK if you see it different. IMO Hughes and Hill are better than Bisi and every WR that comes after him. It's a passing league. We should be drafting at least 2 players from each position.

I messed around on the Fanspeak and DraftNetwork Draft simulators. Did about 15 drafts. Once I got Herbert at 22 and another time Becton.

I watched a mock draft on YouTube (CBS Sports). They had us taking a DE and a WR. The national scribes follow the league, but don't follow the Vikings as closely as we do.

Here is the DE. You know, he might go in the 2nd or 3rd round.

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/julian%20-okwara?id=32194f4b-5702-9663-85a0-2051a10bc13c

The WR was Mims. He may go in the 2nd round too.

Is Chaisson a DE or a LB? He makes sense if we go to a 3/4.

We aren't going to a 3-4. This seams to rear it's ugly head every off season.

Dom Capers is here, although I don't expect a full fledged 3/4. I do anticipate that we mix in some of it. I don't see DE as a need worthy of a first round selection. We'll see. You know how they say best player available.

I like Odenigbo as a starter. I think we can roll with him.

We have enough areas of need, we need to get good value with each pick. Don't reach for one position if there isn't value there. Trade up or back if needed to maximize value on the board depending on how things fall. A lot of holes to fill and depth needed too.

Yeah, Mims is getting lots of projections in 1st now.

I was hoping to be able to get him in the 2nd, maybe with small move up with one of our many late picks.
That scenario isn't looking good at this point.

My Opinion is we need a couple CB's and hopefully a couple very good o-lineman early in the draft. WR and D line honestly, we can manage fine for now. If we don't shore up CB and O-line I'm not sure why we resigned Cousins and didn't go into full rebuild by putting it all into getting a top QB in the draft.
