ORIGINAL: Bruce Johnson The skill positions, in my opinion are more critical than center and guards. Of course that would include the QB and the WR's. On defense that would include the DE's and the CB's. Players at those positions are in position to make the big plays of the game. I should include tackles because they are the ones going against those elite pass rushers. Even running backs though, and I know that many of you will disagree with me here, can really make a big difference in the game. For example, Dalvin Cook vs. Brian O'Neil. Both were selected in the second round and both are considered to be quality players. If one is out due to an injury, which one will be missed more? I would say Cook. And that is while saying O'Neil plays an impactful position. So I guess I'm going to defend Spielman here. Now, he did spend a first rounder on a LB (Barr), but for the most part he has been drafting corners, wide receivers and QB's with his first round selection. He did draft one DT and he gave up a first round selection in a trade for a QB. Am I forgetting any of his picks? Of course it's been hit or miss, but he has largely gone for the skill position players. If you don't have a decent OL and DL (which includes Cs, Gs, and DTs), your skill players are just flashy and expensive toys that only get you so far. Spielman has drafted OL very very poorly. Even if Bradbury turns it around, he has ignored the position over the course of his personnel director 2006-2011 drafts / GMship 2012-2019 drafts. (He has not ignored it recently but it remains to be seen how well he has addressed the position) 1–Kalil, Bradbury 2–Cook, Loadholt, Elflein, O'Neill 3– 4–Clemmings, Beavers, Samia GZUZ that is pathetic by any standard ... its so bad people in here are excited by a 6th rd. pick from Elon because he hasn't been cut yet. God help us if Bradbury continues to struggle, Spielman will only have Loadholt and O'Neill as decent OL draft picks – in total – from 2006-2019!. (well, Kalil was good for one season but then Spiels blew that by keeping him too long; yes the jury is still out on Samia Udoh) He needs to have another 2015 draft with 2 studs (Hunter, Diggs), a strong starter (Kendricks), and a legitimate starter (Waynes) to dig himself and Zimmer out of their current situation.
