Adam Schefter is reporting one year 375000 contract through the end of the year. He will start on the Practice squad and could still sign elsewhere if a starter goes down somewhere. He's still a FA at the end of the year, for now.

I think it is a better plan than Mullens for 2025 as a backup. Darnold probably priced out of the 10 M backup role.

I didn't comment at all on what the plan is. Jones is likely a better option than Mullens no matter what...

Darnold is a FA and at this point has done enough that some QB needy team will probably pay him to leave here.

Vikings are not going to break the bank for Darnold despite his success, not after drafting JJ McCarthy.

Jones may find this is a good fit for him, and Vikings may find the same thing, OR they realize that Jones just is a bust. There is no risk with this signing. There is talent there. And no risk at all at this moment.

What I wouldn't do, not even remotely consider, is handing Jones the job in 2025. At best he should have to compete for it with McCarthy.

I am curious what number Jones will choose.

On our current roster, Including practice squad and IR, the only number under 20 available is 13.

Our temporary kicker is number 96 for crying out loud.

Why do so many linebackers, defensive backs, DLinemen, WRs and RBs in the NFL have to have numbers under 20?

One of Jones' best career games came in a wild-card playoff matchup against the Vikings in January 2023, when he completed 24 of 35 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 78 yards. That performance helped lead to the four-year, $160 million contract extension he signed with the Giants prior to the 2023 season.

Why not return to the source that led to riches.

Contract update: The #Vikings will pay Daniel Jones a little over $100,000 for the rest of the season if he stays on the practice squad. (He'd get a higher rate if/when he's moved to the 53-man roster.) That leaves the #Giants on the hook for the other roughly $11.7 million.

#Vikings QB Daniel Jones has a higher adjusted EPA per play this season than CJ Stroud, Dak Prescott, Geno Smith, Bo Nix, and Caleb Williams.

Is there a grace period whereby he can stay on the PS and not get picked up to someone's active roster? Like a couple of weeks?

I think Jones would be happy to take a Sam Darnold deal with a chance to complete for the starting job and a chance to work with KOC.

And when the league year ends?

Both SD and DJ will be UFA,

Are we going to out bid for either one in FA?

With all the holes, everywhere else, we will have at EOY?

I fn doubt it.
