My comment is......soft. No preseason action for starters even though a lot of turnover of roster and a new QB? SOFT! Injuries piling up because everyone comes in not ready to play in regular season action at full speed? SOFT! Getting new interior offensive line and defensive line and getting no push? SOFT! Falcons running for 200 plus yards? SOFT! KOC punting with 9 minutes left in the 4th? SOFT! Not running at all from the 2? SOFT! Never seeming to be able to pick up 1st downs in short yardage? SOFT! 4 games in a row looking like this going back to last season? SOFT! There's more but you get the picture.

Different team if we have Darrisaw and Addison back in say 2 weeks. Defense will be different when Smith, Van Ginkel, and Cashman are back.

That is 5 guys out....plus add recent Kelly, Skule, and A Jones Hammy. Need to get healthy and get the majority back.

Very unentertaining to put it mildly.

Despite paying a fortune to fix the trenches we still look very soft.

McCarthy looks like he is out of his depth. O'Connell looks scared as well.

Clearly the defense isn't saving this team either.

imo it's o'connell...doesn't know how to develop a running game...jordan mason should be starting and play-action...telegraphs his plays to the defense...keeps our defense on the field, over and over and over and over again...i don't see mccarthy as the problem....

I'll just have to adjust expectations. Could be a 5 win campaign. Just gotta get McCarthy up to speed. If he can make strides this year I'm good. Not sure how they'll do next year in cap hell but then again the guys brought in aren't lighting anything up.

Hot garbage.

Outcoached and outplayed.

ATL protected their young QB with a sound running game and protections. We did none of that.

KR dude that kept running out to the 20, rather than knee and get it at the 35.

OL was crap.

Poor tackling.

Overwhelmed young QB.

Total team failure. Do better.

You ask is it KOC or JJ? Our in-house film expert watched the all-22 this AM. JJ had guys open & sometimes deep. His comments, "Missed screen to Aaron Jones that likely scores from 60, Nailor double-move would have scored from 40. No pressure on either-JJ looked right at them

McCarthy was horrible. I’ve never see a qb mishandle the ball so often in one game.

He looked completely overwhelmed.

Could be a much bigger project than I thought.

Not expecting much from the offense this year, but by the end of the year hope to see some consistency with a moderately functional offense.

Game wise, do expect a lot of 3 and outs, some turnovers, some nice passes, ups and downs.

Atlanta ran 39 times, 218 yards, 5.6 ypc.

Yup - McCarthy was awful!

Wasn't gonna crown his ass after one good quarter last week - not gonna crush him after this game.

He played like crap, but so did almost the whole team and the coaching staff.

With all the 3 and outs and not leaning more on the run we lost the TOP in this game badly

Atl rolled out their version of a Flores defense and it worked tremendously.

The OL couldn't handle the various schemes and the QB couldn't diagnose them.

That's likely to continue.

Looked through the play-by-play, we passed almost exclusively on 3rd down the entire game.

As far as running the ball, it was a mixed bag of 6-7 yards runs and 0-2 yard runs.

There's legitimate reason to be at least a little bit concerned regarding McCarthy

E.g, slow release, touch/throws are more than fast balls, lack of escapability, etc.

However, it seems KOC is setting him up to fail. Trying to run the same playbook as they did with Darnold seems a bit premature.

There seems to be no plan to give him some easy throws and make him comfortable eg., short passes, screens, roll outs, etc.

We do need to be patient, but seemed crazy to go with a unproven QB on a roster that is good enough to win the division.

The RBs should be Mason and Chandler.

It's like the rewarded Aaron Jones for being a good guy.

Bad preparation and game-planning from our head coach. With a rookie QB (basically), you know the other team is going to bring the house. It was the same problems we saw in the final two games last season when the o-line was horrific. The patterns are too deep. You can't keep running guys 20-25 yards down field if you aren't going to give your quarterback ample protection. Either the quarterback is going to try to force it or get sacked.

O'Connell is either stubborn or stupid. You gotta make in-game adjustments. Did we run one slant pattern all night? One crossing pattern? Or was McCarthy just not seeing them?

None of those guys are elite running backs. It's a passing league. If you ain't throwing it 45 times, you have no chance at keeping pace.

They got through 1/3 of War and Peace with the play calls, then late in the game KOC is talking to JJM for a couple of minutes uninterrupted as he tried to complete the novel.

The next juke or missed tackle that Chandler creates will be his first. He also can't block for shit.

Conversely, if there is a steady diet of 10-yard wide holes to run through on a pitch out, then he's the guy.

What I see from JJ McCarthy so far:

Strong arm.
Lots of enthusiasm.
Zero experience.
Lack of pocket awareness.
No understanding of NFL defenses.
Slow internal clock.

Why this guy didn't play in the preseason I have no idea. Collinsworth (who I generally don't like) had the comment of the night when he said the offense looks like it doesn't know the plays (paraphrasing).

Exactly!

And our defense did not attack in the same way atnaltA did. They played like they were going after some vet QB.

Injuries. Bad KR decisions. Dumb penalties.

Very disappointing.

The kick return game had ne irritated. Let's keep trading starting at the 35 for starting at the 18.

+1
Chandler barely made the team. Edit: Chandler is on the IR; that kept him a roster spot. Scott is actually on the roster now.
