The Stars embarrassed themselves with yesterdays effort, so I'm expecting a major counterpunch Monday night. If we can withstand that and get another road win we just may be on to something, if we lose and come home even at a game each maybe not. We have been there many times only to lose out in 5 or 6 games. If we can get the same goaltending and all around effort from the entire lineup we are in for some fun hockey win or lose.

I have to reiterate stfrank's take on having a legitimate NHL 4th line. McCarron and the Folignos are a huge, strong grinding line that is just hard to play against. I swear sometimes the puck just gets sucked into their gravitational pull. Any line they play against exerts a lot of energy and ice time just trying to dislodge the puck. They throw the puck in deep and just pound, pound, pound. It really helps sustain the momentum created by the top lines.

The Wild have outplayed the Stars, the last two times in Dallas. Gustavsson did us in the time before. As long as Wallstedt stays sharp, we have a shot at taking another one.

Like I said, if we can get the same effort we have a real good chance of coming home up 2-0. I think Wally has taken over the net unless he falters and I think that is a good thing. They aren't saying what kind of illness Hughes had, but if it was something contagious I hope he stayed away long enough for it to not affect the rest of the team. It would really suck to have something like that blow up a really good chance at making a run....

I heard Hughes flew to Dallas on a separate plane.

Russo reported that also....they kept him away from the team until late Friday....he arrived in Dallas mid afternoon Friday.

Yeah, they showed him walking in with Billy. I suspect they were on Leipold's private jet.

Couple of things:

I lived there for 7 years and went to a lot of games. That crowd was typical "Dallas". They are going to win everything until they go in a hole. Then it's give up time. it was hilarious when they started pouring out at 4-1 down. With that much talent they were still in it until their fans said F-it. They gave up the 2nd half of the 3rd just like their fans.

Faber was incredible all night.

That was a lot of penalties for a playoff game. Not sure if it was just the crew or what. I don't expect that to continue.

Hynes was really good and I hope he learned a big lesson from last year.

We passed the puck so well and seemed so focused. It didn't seem real.

The game couldn't have gone any better. Wallstadt certainly earned that spot, and I like the discipline of our guys to NOT get into any melees. Good hits, took a couple of penalties, but made them take a couple too.

All in all - great game 1.

Now do that three more times.

Most excellent so much nicer winning game one instead of losing it like the Timberwolves.

Interesting. Protect the teammates, but put the public at risk.

1. He was over the illness and stayed an extra to rest before traveling.
2. He flew on a private jet.
3. You're a bonehead.

Additional thoughts after coming down from the emotional high.

1. I should have ack'd JEE. What a warrior. It was late in the game and Hynes needed a FO win and he just yelled out "Ekk". It wasn't emotional or reactionary. It was just 'right'. Dude (JEE) is just an incredible 2 way player.
2. Mea Culpa time on 2 guys:
A. Faber - I was like "WTH is with that trade" when it happened. I played since I was 4 and have watched hockey my whole life. Does it make me smarter than anyone? Nope. But I've seen a lot and I didn't realize how good Faber actually is/was at the time of the trade. BG did. I was wrong, great on him. That kid is awesome. Even as a Gopher fan, I misjudged. his talent. I remember you guys calling me out on that.

B. BG himself - Wow, he's built a really good team. We take for granted some of his moves but.......damn.....he's built a really solid team.

If our GT'ing stays strong, we can win it all. I've never felt this before. I've liked some of our teams but nothing like this team.

Have to agree about BG. The bottom six he has built seems like they are going to be huge difference makers in the playoffs. Fifty hits in game one is going to pay huge dividends by game 4 or 5, you can bet on it.

The part I loved yesterday was when one of the bigger Stars tried to bully Spurgeon in front of the Wall. In steps in one of the Foligno brothers and it stopped.

The Bluejackets had a game where they delivered 3 hits.
