I'm going to post my predictions for the season tomorrow night. It's great to see some are picking the Vikings to win the division and even the SB. I thought maybe the pre-season performance was getting people a little down. OTOH, are these serious predictions, is that what they really believe will happen, or just wishful thinking ?

I've been waiting to see if the Vikes sign Antoine Winfield. I'm going to assume after tomorrow the Vikes are NOT signing him. I think it's a 2 game difference. Right now, I'm think the Vikes will go 9-7 without him, and 11-5 if they sign him.

I think Winfield would probably make a play or 2 that is the direct difference in a win, and then his presence helps out in several other games, one game where it's pretty much the difference between a win and a loss. So again, having him for the season, brings about 2 more wins.

Whoa ... all we gotta do then ... is get 7 or 8 more guys like 'Toine, and we never lose ...

Remember the Vikings aren't trying to win because we didn't sign Urlacher, so all the Toine's in the world won't make up for that gaffe...

I thought they already forfeited the season when they didn't draft WRs with their first three picks, and missed the Publisher's Clearinghouse Swopesteaks

Illegal to forfeit two seasons in a row.

We already lost last season due to forfeit by selecting some guy named Kalil instead of some guy named Blackmon...

Hmmm...

I thought last year we subconsciously swayed the refs to lose the coin flip which resulted in the trade for dewayne bowe to fall apart..

Peterson's career mean is 1600 yards and 14 TDs.

So last year, Peterson went around 500 yards above his career mean average. While I don't think he'll go 500 below that average, I think he'll goo about 2 to 3 hundred yards below it. So I'll go with about 1400 yards. I think he's going to get about 1469 yards, that is my prediction.

Gambler's fallacy. Peterson doesn't need to perform below average to regress to mean. Anywhere between mean and 2012 high counts. Just because he outperformed his mean in one season doesn't mean he's due to underperform the next.

What many are failing to realize was Petrson's dominance over the final half of the season. Harvin was the team's MVP until week 7 or so. Peterson's last 10 games he was averaging 160 yds and 1 TD per game. In the first 6 games he averaged 88 yds and a .33 TDs per game. In essence his bottom line last season was almost a mean between 2 seasons.

I still expect AD to be dominant and i do see a 1,800 yd season with 15TDs. The real difference will be long TDs. He hit a couple of 60+ yd TD runs that may not be replicated thus bringing down the yardage. Long TDs can be a bit flukey, he could still break one for a 40 yd TD that would have been an 80yd TD had the offense been lined up at their own 20.

This is the weskest the AFC has been in two decades. I think the top 4 or 5 teams are all NFC

I think you're right JC. The NFC is quite likely to win the next 5 SBs, unless the AFC benefits from another 'sway' in the SB.

They are trying to win, but have no intention of winning the SB THIS year. A team full of Toine's wouldn't be bad, as long as some of them had a little more speed.

I think Peyton will drop off in December as age starts catching up with him.

I think Luck and Ryan elevate their games further

And the NFC is deep. The worst teams in the NFC are probably Arizona and St Louis and I would put them on par with Chargers ahead of the likes of Oak, Jax, Ten, Buf, NYJ, Cle and Mia.

I think the Vikings would be the favorite in 2 AFC divisions and not far behind the pats or broncos

I get 9-7, and that is with pulling what I think are a couple of upsets, beating Pittsburgh early in the year (like SF last year), and winning at Cincy late in the year (like at Houston last year).

The post following are my final predictions, this discussion does NOT mean I'm changing my mind, or are trying to cover all bases.

It sucks, I don't have the Vikes making the playoffs. I could EASILY see them winning 1 more game, and flipping with GB. In that case, the Vikes beat Dallas in the playoffs and lose to SF. I just think it's slightly more likely GB wins the division, even though they showed some holes in the pre-season.

I think Cincy will be strong, and maybe should have picked them over Baltimore to win the division. I think the SB champs will get favorable officiating in a few close games, and I think Flacco will probably get hot in December. I also don't think Indy was a fluke, that Luck is a good QB, and have them going all the way to the AFC Championship.

I believe the Vikes will go 11-5, win the division but no first round bye.

Will Peyton drop off to 3 TDs per game?

Right? Manning is amazing, and he's 37, not 40. Rich Gannon is practically a meme around here, and the season everyone points to for him? His 37th year one where he was the league MVP and took his team to the Super Bowl. It's a team game, and injuries are always a possibility, but how is simple age going to stop Peyton? It's not like he runs or even moves much in the pocket, and it's not like he ever relied on a rocket arm, he's not Favre at 40 trying to force balls into windows. It's all about setting up and reading defenses, then releasing the ball quickly. Not much of that depends on physical gifts that age will sap.

Plus, by most accounts, he trains hard in the offseason to keep his body together

With those stats, why did we only win by 3?

Garbage time comeback?

If the defense gets 5 sacks, I'll be surprised if Stafford isn't out for the season with a shoulder injury.

I'm switching to picking the Vikes the 1st week. It could mean they just flip and lose to Chicago instead. IF it means they get 1 more win, it mean they beat the Packers out for the division, in which case it's the Vikes beating Dallas and losing to SF, instead of GB doing that.

The Vikes could start out 4-0, going into the bye.

Vikes 30
Lions 27

Patterson gets a return TD, Ponder looks good, Jennings gets a TD, Ponder runs one in. Peterson gets no TDs, but he does get 127 yards. Defense gets 3 turnovers, but the offense turns it over twice. Simpson catches a key pass that sets up the game winning FG.

I like the Vikes in this one. Detroit has to convince me they can stop Peterson. Show me the money.

I'm so tired of the Ponder can't throw long. We're built for a power running game and short passing to move the chains. I don't need Ken Stabler, I need Bob Griese and a cloud of dust.

yikes...why do i feel like we're gonna get creamed?

like the optimism in here, but i think Detroit is pissed and simply want it worse than we do.

hopefully that works against them...but i'm kind of thinking 30-17 Detroit
