All things considered, I see the Vikings going 9-7. That leaves room for 10-11 wins if the breaks go exceedingly well. The offense doesn't seem to have taken the steps needed to make this a serious contender. I think they're like last year, they will need a historic performance from Peterson just to get into the playoffs. I would love to be wrong on that and the offense to develop as the season goes along.

oh god...i think you hit pretty much exactly how i feel this season will turn out.

I have been holding my breath on the ol' prognostications till at least after the ever so important 3rd preseason game...

But Ponder flat out ain't "it"...if there is a positive in it this season, it is that we will move on from him sometime this season.

and like your last point said, we'll likely do too well to be in the hunt for top draft picks (ie. top QB), but well out of play off contention.

Here are my predictions for the coming season.

1 Sun, Sep 8 Detroit Lions @ Detroit (0-0) 1:00 pm EDT
W - We win a tough road game vs the Lions with a late FG. While the Lions will be better than last season, they just aren't a sound team fundamentally. The D gets to Stafford and AD does his thing rushing for 140 yds. I see a 23-20 win.
2 Sun, Sep 15 Chicago Bears @ Chicago (0-0) 1:00 pm EDT
L - We haven't won there in years and that took a Herculean performance from AD. Like usual we make the mistakes at Soldier while Cutler has a solid game. Lose this one 27-13
3 Sun, Sep 22 Cleveland Browns vs Cleveland (0-0) 1:00 pm EDT
W - Home opener. We get to Weeden, and contain Richardson. Ponder does enough and AD goes off for 180yds. W 27-10
4 Sun, Sep 29 Pittsburgh Steelers vs Pittsburgh (0-0) 1:00 pm EDT
W - We match up well with the Steelers. Get to Big Ben and force some TOs. Low scoring affair both teams struggle but our ST is better and Walsh is the difference in London. W 16-13
5 Bye
6 Sun, Oct 13 Carolina Panthers vs Carolina (0-0) 1:00 pm EDT
W - Coming off the bye the team is fresh. More of a high scoring game but we're able to contain Newton and AD is the story going for 150 yds. W 27-24
7 Mon, Oct 21 New York Giants @ NY Giants (0-0) 8:40 pm EDT
L - Tough spot on MNF, Eli makes some plays and Ponder struggles vs the Giants rush. L 24-17
8 Sun, Oct 27 Green Bay Packers vs Green Bay (0-0) 8:30 pm EDT
L - While well prepared for this game Rodgers is too much. Jennings has his best game of the season as does Ponder with GB selling out to stop AD. A Ponder pick 6 is the difference L 31-17
9 Sun, Nov 3 Dallas Cowboys @ Dallas (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
L - Losing streak in the works, Cowboys passing game clicks and their defense forces some TOs. AD still rushes for 150 but not enough. L 27-20
10 Thu, Nov 7 Washington Redskins vs Washington (0-0) 8:25 pm EST
W - Big game under the lights. RGIII is on point but the D is better prepared for this offense than last season. Their defense is still poor. W 31-24
11 Sun, Nov 17 Seattle Seahawks @ Seattle (0-0) 4:25 pm EST
L - Tough to win up in the nest. Seattle swarms and Harvin makes an appearance though limited. L 23-10
12 Sun, Nov 24 Green Bay Packers @ Green Bay (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
W - Playing the Pack at home is a different story. Somewhat get to Rodgers an dPonder like last season plays his best game. W 30-27
13 Sun, Dec 1 Chicago Bears vs Chicago (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
W - Get to Cutler force some TO, AD makes some big plays early. W 20-13
14 Sun, Dec 8 Baltimore Ravens @ Baltimore (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
L - Tough match vs the defending champs. Flacco plays well with no TO, Ponder struggles. L 27-17
15 Sun, Dec 15 Philadelphia Eagles vs Philadelphia (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
W - Exciting game vs Chip Kelly's offense. While Vick makes plays he also gives them away. W 34-27
16 Sun, Dec 22 Cincinnati Bengals @ Cincinnati (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
L - Bengals look sharp and their D comes to play. Our D does too but Bengals squeak one out. L 20-17
17 Sun, Dec 29 Detroit Lions vs Detroit (0-0) 1:00 pm EST
W - Another sweep of the Lions unfortunately not enough to get into the playoffs as the NFC is just too loaded this season.

9-7, at first glance i thought we might finish 6-10, but the schedule isn't as tough as i first thought. Every game is winnable and really the first game vs the Lions will be the tipping point to a winning season or losing season IMO.

If a Ponder pick 6 is the difference...how do we lose by 14?

A pick six is often a 14 point swing.

Looking at my prediction it is really a best case scenario IMO.

I think you could breakdown the probability of a victory for each game by a rating (A) being the easiest and (D) the most difficult.

A-Matchups
Cleveland

B-Matchups
Carolina
Philly
Detroit
Washington

C-Matchups
Pitt
@Detroit
Chicago
GB
@Cincy
@Dallas
@NYG
@Baltimore

D-Matchups
@GB
@Chicago
@Seattle

When looking it at this way you need to win 100% of your A-games, where unfortunately we only have 1, while last year I counted about 4 or 5 (Jax, Az, Ten, @Indy and Bucs the latter 2were much improved at least when we played them). You have to win about 3/4 of you're B games so 3-1 in that section. Win half your C games which is 4-4 by my count and 1/4 of you're D games which in this case would be 1 hopefully. With that we get a record of 9-7, to me this looks like our ceiling this season. If we start 1-3, I can see a 6-10 or 5-11 season. Tbh I wouldn't mind a write off season, it my seem like a loser mentality but this squad isn't ready to compete with the NFC's best with Ponder at QB. The team is young and headed in the right direction but last season was a an outlier. The team may play just as well as last season but the schedule might be too much and it may not reflect in the standings. Most winning seasons require several gimme games like we had in 2009 and this season we just don't have any.

For some team we might be a D-Matchup, especially teams that can't protect their QB like the Cards. The rating system isn't perfect but I've done it most seasons with the Vikes schedule and it has shown to be beneficial.

Possibly, the Bears OLine issues are magnified in the dome. While RGIII really had our D guessing last season.

Except that is relatively meaningless. The only thing that matters about the schedule:

Chicago:
New Orleans and St Louis

Detroit:
Tampa Bay and Arizona

Green Bay:
Atlanta and San Francisco

Minnesota:
Carolina and Seattle

Those are the only differences that matter. Other than that they play essentially the same schedule as the rest of the teams in the division and winning the division is what matters.

Vikings defense scores to ice the game. Floyd sacks Stafford, forces fumble, Bishop recovers and scampers 35 yards untouched for the TD.

I think some people forget how tough it is to win on the road, especially early in the season where you might not have strong team chemistry.

There is a VERY good chance the Vikes start out 0-2.

Having said that, if they stay healthy, I think the Vikes can surprise and possibly win the division. I think people are reading too much into pre-season game 3 at SF. Had that game been at home, it's quite possible the Vikes win and very different things happen. I think getting pre-season game 3 at home is helpful for some teams for building confidence. But if you were to get an easy opponent at home for that game, it might be a false or unwarranted sense of confidence, where you think you're better than you are.

I think the play where Ponder faked a handoff to AD and went deep to Jennings was very important and showed what kind of things they might be doing this year, and it might be quite successful. Yes Ponder over threw it, but it may have gotten some wind and in time, when Jennings and Ponder get their timing down, plays like that will be TDs. I think Patterson will be explosive on returns, and in the offense, but we're likely to be frustrated that he's not getting more playing time.

I think Ponder will play quite well at times, while I think it will be the defensive 2ndary that will be blowing games (missing Winfield, plus a much tougher schedule). The Vikes are definitely an improved team at WR with Jennings and Patterson, a better punter,

I'm looking forward to making predictions for the season, I'm starting to get the feeling the Vikes will take the division, but it won't be easy. It might require Cincy benching their starters as they have their playoff spot locked up.
