I agree his biggest mistake or act of arrogance was to continue after the league made a point of we are going to start enforcing this rule that we have let slide for years. Same as ticket scalping, although it could be argued that every team was still scalping when Tice, courtesy or Chrissy Hovan, got ratted out.

A Boston sports writer on Jim Rome the other day said, although it really pains him to say it because the Patriots are his team, that Belichick should be fired.  This was after news broke that Belichick has been using players on IR for practice - which is illegal by league rules.   It's just another way in which he has been cheating, and the camel's back has been broken for that writer.

Specter Says Patriots Are Not in Clear
Mon Jun 23, 2008

The New York Times reports Senator Arlen Specter clarified Thursday that his involvement in the New England Patriots' videotaping controversy was not over. Neither is his battle with the NFL. Specter, a Republican from Pennsylvania, said in a telephone interview that his comments to the editorial board of The Philadelphia Daily News "didn't really come out with the proper flavor." "My view on the overall situation is that we may well see the other shoe drop somewhere," Specter said. "We went about as far as we could go, given the public attitude today about the economy and gas prices and Iraq. We're always very careful about initiating a Congressional investigation. But that isn't to say, by any means, it's over." Specter said he had not talked to Commissioner Roger Goodell recently, but they now hold similar positions on the videotaping controversy that came to light last September. They have promised to revisit the controversy and the Patriots should new information become available. They differ on the likelihood of new information coming out. The NFL also added provisions this off-season to strengthen enforcement of rules relating to the integrity of the game, along with eliminating most defensive signals by installing defense communications systems — similar to what the quarterback uses — next season. Specter cited other sports mired in integrity issues, including horse racing, tennis, professional basketball and Major League Baseball. Specter said that he had no immediate plans to jump into any of those issues, but added that Congress had "talked about a sports commission from time to time." "It has to be gauged very carefully in terms of public sentiment," Specter said. "Spygate really touched a nerve, beyond any question. But frankly, I'm little surprised more people weren't concerned." Specter said the controversy had renewed his interest in stadium financing, a subject about which he first introduced legislation in 1982. In the statement on the Patriots that Specter introduced into the Congressional record recently, he attached two charts — one on the NFL, one on baseball, detailing public contributions toward new stadiums. According to those figures, the public contributed $3.46 billion to 17 NFL stadiums built since 1992. Baseball's figure stood at $3.01 billion on 15 stadiums built from 1990 to 2003. "As a matter of basic fairness," Specter wrote, "the owners should have been paying for their own stadium construction without relying on the public funds desperately needed for so many other purposes."

This could hurt the Vikings from ever getting a new stadium

If memory serves there was some vague mention last year about signal stealing - maybe against us? Somehow the Packers were tipped off. Couldn't happen to a nicer team......

And if that is true I find it hard to fathom how Farve couldn't be a contributor to that kind of nefarious behavior.

http://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13533995/split-nfl-new-england-patriots-apart

I accidentally found this story yesterday. I had never read this account of the Patriots Payback. The irony is the year they had to accept their medicine they are probably going to win it all anyway.

Tom Brady is not tarnished in my book but I hope this delays Belicheat's HOF nomination.

For the record this not make up for Martz and the Rams nor for Pittsburgh and a probably countless other games. I think everyone of Pittsburgh's rings have been assisted by the refs throughout the playoff runs in the years they won it all. This league is far from not having favorites. Goodell is an absolute tool in my book as well and I am sick that he makes $45 million for a league that has priced regular people out of attending games.

I'm trying to figure out if we want the Pats to win....beat the best for our first SB championship.

Or do we want the Jags?

I guess I'm of the opinion we should definitely prefer to face the Jags at this point. A Super Bowl win is the ultimate goal. The excitement will be thru the roof no matter what. However, a small part of me does know that defeating the Patriots would take it to another level!

Tom Brady injured his hand and was limited in practice yesterday.

However, it appears to be a false alarm, as he practiced as usual today.

You got both wishes.

Patriots are in and the Vikings by all metrics have no chance of winning.

They were adding a finger on to his hand, not a big deal.
Cannot respect an org more than I do the Pats.
They get shit done.

Yep. Needed an extra finger so all his championship rings can go on one hand. In less than two weeks he'll need it.

Why not use the other hand?

Brady is no longer doing his radio segment with WEEI. Good for him.

Not that I plan to watch the game, but I believe that craptastic Eagles fans finally found a way to get me to cheer for the Patriots.

That's hitting rock bottom, of course, or at least nearly. Cheering for the Packers would be rock bottom, but the Patriots just barely sit on top of them.

So ... yeah ... Go Pats.

Now I need a shower.

Yeah, not so much. I still don't see how you can be a Patriots fan, unless you were a bandwagon jumper when they first started winning. I can't remember how you've explained that little idiosyncrasy of yours.

I don't actively root for the Patriots but I sure respect greatness.

I used to argue that BB made Tom Brady. Now I just believe they came together.

Jealous as **** but man what they've done is jaw dropping.
