Defensive clinic tonight.

And Samson is really growing up the last few games. He's incredibly skilled. And how many freshman big men shoot over 8-% from the line?

I went to Duke for four years and watched some impressive, impressive defensive performances, but I don't know if I've EVER seen a team lock down another team like that. Shots were contested, shots were blocked, passing lanes were shut down, passing lanes were jumped for steals, offensive rebounders were blocked out, you name it. Tubby has to be ecstatic with the defensive performance of his team tonight.

It's like we played with 6 guys on defense. Every time a guy wass open and they tried to swing the ball to him, someone was in his face as he got the pass.

Illinois' 36 points were the second-fewest ever allowed by a Gophers team, bettered only by the 32 points given up against Nicholls State in 2007. It was the largest margin of victory over a ranked opponent in Minnesota history. Illinois had not been held to fewer than 40 points since 1985.

The Big Ten is a joke compared to the ACC.

Doesn't matter--Minnesota's defense last night would have shut down almost all teams in the country, and it would have slowed the nation's very best teams. It was that good.

Great defense against the highest scoring team in the Big 10. They didn't give Ill any room at all. Now if they can only repeat that in their next game Wed v Michigan St

Yep. Lock-down D last night.
Still trying to decide if it was an off-night for the Illini or we're that good at it.
A little of both I'm thinking.
It was impressive.
I did the 1am-3am re-play. It's a calming experience, watching a game when you know it's going to turn out well.
We were brutal offensively at times, but we didn't need much.
Thought Hoffarber was about to go off, but he was on a very, very short leash.
Tubby has a couple guys, that if they even think about getting comfy, they are yanked.
Not ripping him, I love how he is in charge. The mass substitutions just wear your opponent out.
If we add a couple legit scorers who are willing to buy in to the rest of his system, look out.

I'm beginning to think Hoffarber is just not cut out for high D-I basketball.  Maybe he should have gone to Santa Clara or something like that.  More likely he's a DII guy who has gotten some hometown favors re: playing time that Tubby may just yank away from him.  He belongs on the St. Cloud State Huskies.

Yeah but after that lay in and subsequent 3, I'm with SMF.  I thought he was going to go off.

It was nice to see a semblance of offense in the 2nd half went Tubby really focused on Sampson and Iverson. Another year and those 2 kids are going to be a force in the Big 10. Iverson is going to be a load, and Sampson is just so skillful for a young kid.

What amazed me was the way they were able to double team the ball wherever it went. Even when Illinois attacked it the way you are supposed to with a fast reversal of ball rotation, 2 Gophers seemed to arrive across the court with the ball. Just amazing.

10 points with 4 minutes to go in the half on the road. 3-18 from the field...and here i thought the TWolves poor shooting was bad....

Looking like this is going to be the worst game of the Tubby era.

Just ugly.

I'm watching the Wild game but peeking in once in a while on the Gophers. Painful.

These young players might have trouble bouncing back from such a beatdown. Psychologically it's tough to overcome.

Tubby was mortified.
That feeling, of sitting there and not being able to do anything about all the emotion and energy that is being unleashed against you is demoralizing.
If you've been on either side, you know.
It was one of those nights they were not going to be beaten.
Losing on their home court lately has not set well with Izzo.
He had them jacked up like spider monkeys on crack last night.
You just take your beating and head home.
We needed to do that to them here, but didn't. We still have a ways to go.

They are starting to remind me of the football team. I hope this downturn doesn't continue

Ouch tough week on the road, bounced back against Ohio State.  Young team, need more from Nolen/Westbrook.

Take care of Indiana at home. Done with MSU,Pur,OSU...NW, Wis, Mich at home, Ill,Mich,PSU on the road, 11-7 (23-7 overall) is very attainable which will punch a ticket into the NCAAs.

Wow, Tubby needs to get these kids to protect the ball better. Way to many turn overs. Last nights game shouldn't have been as close as it was. These kids have played long enough together to make better passes

Good game by Carter

Once again the Gophers are having a hard time making any shots. They're getting some good looks, but the shots aren't falling

Terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible loss. And Tubby is in no way beyond criticism for this one. His substitution patterns are absolutely baffling sometimes.

We really need some guys whop can create and score. It seems each game we get 1 guy who gets hot with his jumper.

Also seems like our record has gone in the tank along with Al Nolan.
