Nice to see Tollackson enjoying himself on the Big Ten Network. Good kid.
Had a good career. Can tell he's proud to be a Gopher.

They don't have our depth. If they keep full court trapping, they're going to be worn out with 10 minutes left.

Turnovers and fouls are the only thing keeping NW in the game.

Pretty timid trying to run an offense. Consistently trying to throw over the top.

Flat, flat, flat half...

Yep, it's fallen apart.
Will see in the final 5 minutes what we're really made of.

Minnesota teams in all sports have a really, really, really hard time playing with a target on their backs.
Once they get attention and respect, they almost always fall all over themsleves.
Playing as a favorite is an art, one which few MN teams have ever mastered.

They're young, still inconsistent, and are playing with fire too much, by getting down with this turnover/lackluster play.
Getting burned by it today.

Shooting has gone ice cold, and yet they continue to throw up bombs.
Not even looking inside anymore, and then not getting any boards/loose balls.
Tough loss in a game they should win.

They stopped attacking the basket, let the D of NW set the tempo...pretty passive, and Nolen didn't play all that well...in fact, most of them didn't...

Hopefully an eye-opener for the youth. Unfortunately, had to have it handed to them to send a message.

They were baffled by a basic 1-3-1 zone. They had no clue how to attack it a wound up settling for long jumpers the last 2/3 of the game.

Perhaps losing to NU was not so embarassing ...
They are up 5 on MSU in E Lansing, late.

Gophers need to rebound to rebound
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 | Andy Katz, ESPN

Minnesota hosts Purdue on Thursday in what could turn out to be a major game for the Gophers.
Sure, a win helps the overall profile and keeps the team in the chase to catch Michigan State.
But more than anything, Minnesota needs to show that it can rebound from another Big Ten setback. The team can do that by, well, rebounding.
The Gophers, who cherish the neutral-site win over Louisville like a prized possession, opened the Big Ten season with a thud, getting crushed at home by 12 to Michigan State. The Spartans dominated the backboard, grabbing 41 rebounds to the Gophers' 22. MSU got 16 offensive rebounds.

Minnesota didn't wilt, though, coming back with four straight wins, including against Ohio State at home and at Wisconsin in overtime.

UM outrebounded the next three opponents and was outrebounded by only one at Wisconsin.
And then the Gophers went to Northwestern on Sunday. They outrebounded the Wildcats by just one, grabbed only six offensive rebounds and wilted in the second half to lose by nine.
"This team does have to learn how to handle success," Minnesota coach Tubby Smith said of his young Gophers. "After Louisville, we played Michigan State and got clobbered on the boards, but then we bounced back."
Smith is hoping for the same result. But he said he's got to trim down his rotation. He said he's playing too many players citing the 12 that saw action against the Wildcats.
Minnesota has shown staying power so far. The Gophers are in a position to earn an NCAA bid. The question now: Can they come up with enough big wins in the Big Ten to hold onto a spot? Beating Purdue on Thursday would certainly help.

And finished off the Spartans convincingly on their home floor.
Fun game to watch.
Completely stunned MSU at home.
And it wasn't like it was some kind of fluke.
Great execution down the stretch.
Their 1-3-1 killed MSU, too.
Didn't the great Izzo get the MN game tape?

Seems to me that the Big10 is still down right now.  Lots of "solid" teams, but no really good ones.  Similar in football too.  But at least (in both sports) you can see the potential for a couple years from now at this point.  And that's going to be fun to watch develop.

IMO, that makes the Gopher loss much less.

I truly expect the Gophers to beat Purdue at home tonight.

NU is similar to those boring ass Wisconsin/Princeton type teams.  They just kill you will slow and methodical execution.  I'm not a huge BB fan but i've been following the Gophs (duh).  I can't take that boring BB.  I suppose it's like watching the Wild if you aren't a die hard hockey fan.   Or the KA offense or the Twins small ball ect.....I'm sensing a pattern here guys and I aint the sharpest spoon in the dishwasher.

NW also has a lot of experience...that pays off in the execution of the zones and offense against this "power" teams that have annual turnover of personnel.

Reality check at the Barn tonight.
Gophers have a ways to go.
No true scorer yet. No one to bust up tough D against us.
They are fitting the MN Mold .... play good solid D and hope on the offensive end.
Think about it .... Twins, Vikings, Wild,
Where in the world has Hoffarbers shot gone? Cannot buy a bucket.
