It's not a matter of him not picking the Gophers. It's picking Wisconsin and Bo Ryan that makes me wish him ill. I hate UW athletics with with every fiber of my being. Especially Bo Ryan and his basketball program. I hope it's the worst 4 years of his life.

Doogie and Chris Long are interviewing Richard Pitino on AM 1500 right now. He's sounding a little prickly.

Long said "Richard, for those of us that do not follow the program as closely as Doogie, ..."

Pintino interrupts, dead serious tone: "You don't follow the program."

Long "I didn't say that. Doogie is obsessed. If you yell at a player in practice, Doogie will know about it."

Pitino. Silence. Pitino finally: "Hmmm."

Uncomfortable silence.

Probably just messing with him. He has a little of the old man's sense of humor.

I always try to remember never to take Matt's characterization of an interview at face value unless there are at least one or two other witnesses confirming his account.

(And yes, I expect that you might be saying, "Well, we've learned to do the same for everything you've ever written here, Pete.")

Embellishment? Matt?
Not aware that he dabbles in that ...

Did we ever get confirmation that LEN was actually in convulsions on the radio discussing the Gardy firing?

How's this season look at the outset? Wasn't last years roster unbalanced- short on big man depth? If that's true, does the team have some fresh big men coming in?

Oh come on. Like a rancid cheeseball could do anything to LEN's gut. He could follow it up with undercooked chicken and wash it down with Tijuana drinking water and he wouldn't get anything worse than bad gas.

I hear they might have a long, tall freshman outside sharpshooter coming off the bench. We'll see.

The freshman Konate can play the 4 and 5, it soudns like. We're good on the 5 this year between Mo and Eliason, so he'll add nice depth to the 4 this year, most likely. King really picked up his game towards the end of last year, and we have another recruit at the 4 from Washington. Should be improved at that position from last year.

How fresh is that when you can mention a Gopher getting better during the year. We didn't get that under Tubby

Yep. It's a bizarre feeling. Not that I'm complaining.

These Freshmen are recruits by Pitino. I have a hunch that since these are "his guys" that he will be quicker to use them. I'm not expecting them to be starters. They are Freshmen after all, but still I would anticipate serious minutes for them as the season unfolds.

I hope so. Unlikely that they will end up starting...I expect the starting five to be the same (although Mo could get starts in front of Eliason) with the exceptio of Morris, the juco transfer, starting in Austin Hollins' small forward spot. But definitely hope we're seeing consistent minutes from at least a couple of them this season.
