The Gophers lost season continues ....
Dropping another game at home to an average team.
Can't believe the fan base (which used to be huge) isn't more up-in-arms over this season.
Terribly disappointing I would think.

I think they are up in arms over it but are showing it with apathy. The Barn looked empty and emotionless on TV. I attended a game over the Christmas holiday when I was back in town. The students were out of school & they were playing South Dakota State so it was expected to be pretty tame but this conference game seemed about as lifeless as that was to me. To be honest, I actually deleted my season pass to record MN Basketball on my DVR after tonight's game. I consider myself a huge fan but I have no desire to watch this garbage anymore.

They've used the Mbakwe/White excuse enough. The kids they have on hand have not improved enough.

Basic fundamentals.  Lazy passes/turnovers and very lazy defense. Move your feet!

There are some talented players that frankly Tubby has been unable to elevate their games.

Sampson and Iverson have not developed nearly enough..
Joseph is inconsistent with his shot and despite this being his second year as a back up PG is lacking in organizing half court offense.
Carter, Johnson and Williams are physical freaks, but not big producers.
Cobbs has been a disappointment.

Carter and Cobbs.

Saw a play where Carter got called for the charge on a fast break. Same and, it seems, only move he has off the dribble. Get as close to the guy as you can then flip/finger roll the ball.
He's a guy who has not improved much at all.

Cobbs. Dunno what the hype about him was. Saw a foul where MI player was going in for a layup and he did some little quick reach. Stupid foul. Doesn't seem to have
any offensive prowess that I can tell.

The big men play small. I keep reading "that's what they got Mbakwe/White for" when beat inside. Both big men play small, unless playing off their guy and blocking a shot coming into the lane.

Johnson has a hand injury, yet has not really elevated his game at all. Joseph's brother will likely go elsewhere if he truly watches how pathetic of an effort they make at organizing any half court offense.

1-3-1

is MN's achilles heel. They have zero clue.

Agreed. The game was full of them but the one that stands out to me (and the one that convinced me that I gain no enjoyment in watching this team play) was when Bostick was dribbling the ball and it got away from him a little bit. He just basically looked at it and made a slow attempt to grab it while the MI defender dove on the ground to tie it up for a jump ball which went to MI. Granted I don't think Bostick saw any more time after that but that's how I see this entire team playing and it's caused me to completely lose interest and I don't think I'm alone.

Going back to my question the other day about whether or not Maturi will have the cajones to put pressure on Tubby, I don't see how he can't if this continues on through next season. This pathetically lazy play and poor player development is driving fans away from the program and not even Maturi can ignore that!

Unfortunately Jake, Maturi probably wants to keep Tubby's Name presence.

He was dumb enough to extend Brewster, I don't see him putting any heat on Tubby.

Cobbs is a complete waste of a scholarship. His defense is ok but not good enough to make up for how putrid his offense is. I can't think of one thing he brings to the offensive end.

To me, Iverson and Joseph have been the most disappointing as far as their development. Both players have looked much worse in their second year in the program. Earlier this year I was really excited when I thought about how good Williams can be but now I don't see his game developing at all under Tubby and that is a total waste of a very talented player.

I have tix for the Indiana game next SAT. Am disappointed they're in this state, but am excited to be going back to the Barn. I haven't seen a game live since MN/IA in January 1982.

Boyle/Lute Olson vs Tucker/Bruer, et al.  Place was rocking.

You nailed it pretty good and the lazy passing in another post of yours was dead on.

Gophers should not have lost to this team in their own gym. No way at all

I blame Westbrook and the senior "leadership." His absurd temper tantrum after being taken out of the game was the last straw for me. He's done for me as a Gophers player, and it's too bad I'll remember him for his ball-hogging, arrogance, and bad attitude more than for his big shots against Penn State and Wisconsin.

I don't think we can completely judge how big of an effect the lack of chemistry has on this team. It doesn't really look like they're having fun or playing with any fire. I'm willing to give Tubby more or less of a pass for this season, and I'll be looking forward to what happens next year. I just hope that enough guys don't transfer at the end of this year to set us back to the Monson era talent-wise.

It looks like the Gophers will need the NIT in order for Tubby to keep his 20 wins season streak alive

Agree on Westbrook. He's not nearly as good as he thinks he is and I've been looking forward to the end of his "era" for some time.

Should be a front-runner. It's a built-in excuse for mediocrity.

Wonder how much of that is due to his uncle being the Eagles' RB.

Inflated self-worth.

And the guy is probably too honest to be going onto KFAN and gabbing about butting heads.

I'd bet the coaches are looking forward to the end of that era, too.

All the people celebrating Westbrook's buzzer beater against NW forgot that the shot was necessary because of his monumental stupidity seconds earlier. Allowing himself to be tied up in a fouling situation was inexcusable. I think it is pretty much the defining statement on the Gophers that he is still considered the linchpin of the offense.

Westbrook's self-worth/importance probably changed with his monster performance at Wisconsin last year.

And since, it's been too much up/down. Too short to consistently hit shots with guys on him on the perimeter.

The vaunted Tubby pressure D doesn't turn the ball over either. Teams are used to it,and the D intensity is probably lacking.

Someone needs to light a serious fire under Samson. He could be a great player if he always played like he does in stretches.

He's really talented at both ends.

Matt,  do you watch Gopher hockey?  Woog had one of the best ever a couple of games ago.  I wish I had the exact game but I don't.  The puck was deep in our zone.  He got all "woog-excited" and started yelling "WWHooa lookout...the Gophs should get a great chance out of this".  Meanwhile (not sure exactly what he was seeing) the opposition had the puck and put past Kangas right as "out of this" hit his lips.

I've never seen a player take as many difficult shots as he does. Contested 3s, crazy, spinning drives into traffic, etc.

Its no wonder he can score 18 points one game and then score a total of 12 the next 2.

Tubby had a very nice 47-4 record when leading at the half, at the U

This was a difficult one to add to the L column.

Double-digit lead as late as 7 1/2 to go.

Took a Hoffarber 3 to send it to OT.

More of the SOS. Unable to maintain any rhythm in the 1/2 court offense, go man-man on D and get beat consistently by cutters.

No wonder they're 14-10.
