Commentator says they're not running the offense with much of a purpose.

Carter ends the over 6 minute field goal drought with a 3.

Westbrook misses a wide open 3 that would've cut the lead to 4. CHOKE.

Yeah, i thought so too.
He and Hoffarber have missed some real good looks today.

They take for freakin' ever to get a shot off.

Methodically SLOW offense.

What's the better choice? foul anyone early or let X do what theyjust did

Kill the shot clock and rip a 3 to make it a 9 point game.

and they get the big L

Disappointing -- that was a winnable game. Ralph/Devoe/Blake didn't show up, and Westbrook had one good half. That's not enough to beat a rugged team like Xavier.

Guard play killed MN. They looked like they were stuck in mud.

Very sloppy on MN's part. They shot poorly. Lots of turnovers. Looked like a team that had not been in the tournament.

Don't you need to HAVE an offense to run one?

Good point. They were too slow and too indecisive to run anything late in that game.

The stall offense down 10. Wow, send it around the perimeter and hang onto it until 10 seconds left on the shot clock. DOWN 10.

You know, if Tubby wants to go, he'll go. I wouldn't miss this "offense" that they tried to run again today.

Just looked at a 2 round mock draft and didn't see Crawford. I was impressed with his play today

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Tubby Smith says a report that he is close to taking over at Auburn is "just talk," and he's looking forward to returning to Minnesota.
Citing unidentified sources, CBSSports.com reported Friday that Auburn is "close" to hiring Smith. Auburn fired Jeff Lebo a week ago after his fourth losing season in six years. Smith is well-known in the SEC, having won a national title at Kentucky and also coached at Georgia.
Smith brushed off the rumors after Minnesota's 65-54 loss to Xavier in the first round of the NCAA tournament, saying he's happy with the progress the Golden Gophers have made in his three seasons. Asked if he's been offered a job by any other school, Smith said, "No. No, I haven't."

Strib

Milwaukee - Gophers coach Tubby Smith refuted rumors linking him to Auburn's opening following his team's 65-54 loss against Xavier in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
"Obviously, that's just talk, because I'm very pleased with what we've accomplished here," Smith said. "I'm pleased with where we are in the program. I'm very ... I'm looking forward to coming back to Minnesota."
Smith also said that he hasn't received any job offers.
"No. No I haven't," he said.
A Friday morningcbssports.com report by columnist Dennis Dodd says Auburn "is close to hiring" Smith.
The Friday edition of the Birmingham News said Auburn, which just built a $90 million arena, is willing to make a significant offer to a big-name coach. The newspaper cited Smith as Auburn's potential target.
But a source familiar with the situation strongly denied the cbssports.com report.
Athletic director Joel Maturi told the Star Tribune, "I have heard the [Auburn] rumors."
Maturi, however, also said that he had a gut feeling about the situation: "I think he's our coach."
Here's the thing.
Coaches make moves via agents, search agencies and other liasons.
If Smith leaves, he's not going to request Maturi's blessing. He'll just go.
Maturi said a coach would only call him if/when he's ready to sign with a new school.
That's the way it happened at Georgia. Weeks before he left, Smith praised the Bulldogs' program and talked about the future. Then, he was gone.
That's the way it happened at Kentucky. The administration at that school wanted Smith to make some changes to his program. But I'm told the school's officials were shocked when Smith informed them that he was headed to Minnesota. Where?
If the same thing ever happens at Minnesota, that's the way it will go down, too. Poof. He's gone.
This is the second year in a row that Smith has had to deal with rumors during the NCAA tournament. Last year, reports connected him to the Virginia opening.
Earlier this month, reports linked him to the Oregon opening, before Ernie Kent was even fired.
The difference betweeen those rumors, however, and the latest ones related to the Auburn gig is that past reports only cited Smith as a "target."
This is the first time a report has suggested that Smith is on the verge of signing with another school.

One and done.
We're pathetic.
On the national scale of importance, U of Minnesota sports is about as low as we can get.
Totally irrelevant in all of the major sports.

So Tubby has been offered a $2 million contract to coach for Oregon.

Assuming that isn't his ultimate destination either - would it make any sense for him to pack up and start over again in Oregon until his ideal job opens? I have never been a head coach of a Division 1 basketball program, but I would assume that all things considered it would be more attractive to stay at the place where you've set some things in motion, gotten familiarity with the kids you have on the team and the kids you've been recruiting, etc. and see what your guys can do with another year under their belt.

I hope he doesn't sign that contract.

Allegedly they were also going to offer the job to Pitt's coach, and to Izzo, too.

So take that offer report along with the rest.

If he goes, and Phil Knight/Nike throws a pile of $$ at him, so he does. I'm no longer upset if he goes. It's college hoops, where coaches come and go all the time in this era.

It'll hurt the program, no doubt. It may also give an opportunity to a coach that can take a team further and build the U into a more consistent winner.

Is anyone else bugged that Nike is allowed to have such a major impact on a school hiring a coach? Supposedly Nike has authorized Oregon to offer Izzo the biggest contract in college coaching history.

Yeah - shortly after I posted that I also heard that they are making an offer to Izzo as well.

First - Tubby should be annoyed that they offered more to Izzo and he should tell them to screw it.

Second - what an odd thing. Almost like a scattershot of contract offers to see if they hit any targets. It sounds almost amateurish, as opposed to a school that might target a specific coach and woo him.

I don't see Tubby going there at all.

Zero chance at Izzo.
He's a home boy.
He's a legend.
NO sense to got ot Oregon, for all the money in the world.
He's conquered his world.
I'd say they will still have to go hard after Tubby.
Hope they do.

Just tired of the whole thing.
We have to be concerned about losing a guy who hasn't won anything yet?
It's frustrating is all.
I want to see if this year he turns the program where he wants it to go.
But I'm tired of worrying about losing him before it even happens.
Never said there were any better options.
We're not a Sweet 16 teanm or even a Big Ten contender.
I'd think Tubby would want to accomplish that HERE even mroe than we want him to.
Doesn't say much about a guy if he simply goes where the checks are better, once you are getting a very nice check where you are.
I'm hoping they go hard after him, and he turns them down. Will help prove he actually wants things to work here.

BTW, so much for the accurate report by sportsline on Tubby/Auburn.

UTEP's coach took that one.

UTEP hired Tim Floyd, ex-USC cheater

And more reports of Oregon offering job to Tubby. Maturi says he knows of no offer and they need to contact him before Tubby, don't they

And St Johns hired Steve Levin of UCLA who was suspected of getting Baron Davis a car to come there
