My ISP natively supports it. Is there a way to register for it if one does not have such an ISP?

67 personal fouls in the Davidson/WV game. Should be an interesting tournament!

Winning BIG vs WKentucky.

Sampson another big nite, Mbakwe is a force.

Iverson will have to sub well, because he's a bench guy now.

Gotta fix the FTs. That was one great thing about Westbrook -- he was automatic down the stretch. I don't trust Nolen at the stripe.

Agreed. Right now, most reliable...Hoffarber.

After that, it's a crapshoot. Sampson CAN..but they've missed a ton.

I didn't see the game but it's nice to read that Sampson is playing well.  I've said it since they got here.  Iverson is (was) the better player.  Sampson has way more talent but never used it right.  At least with Iverson you would get the try/hustle factor.

I was thinking the same thing while watching last night. Both Wiliams and Mbakwe had a couple and 1's and missed the FT

On bball overload tonight; Duke on, Gophers, Lakers/Wolves....

Even though UNC is trying to find themselves still, huge statement win for the Gophers' program tonight.

They're going to give a lot of teams fits this year.

For UNC, tough night for Barnes. Those are going to happen here and there. He's got to continue to be aggressive.

For Minnesota, Hollins and Williams both need to work on their shooting. Williams' athleticism is freakish though. Reminds me a bit of a smaller Udoh at Baylor. Too many 3's too. But Mbakwe is an absolute beast. Gotta get him the ball more.

Oh, and lastly, Roy and Tubby know each other quite well and are pretty good friends. I thought Tubby outcoached Roy tonight. Made a lot of right moves at the right times.

It's rare that Tubby does not outcoach his foe. His recruiting or style may be up for debate but there is not a better coach in the game for my money during the game.

Mbawke is my new favorite player.

Love him.

Nice that he can attack down low from the forward spot in the half-court.

That missed fast break alley-oop by Mbawke from Williams in the 2nd half with about 6 or 7 minutes to go would have been something had he gotten his hands on it. Rodney just put it up there like a line drive and didn't give Trevor a chance at it. I think he would have tore down the rim.

God, good to see Tubby coach his team to be aggressive. He is the anti-Minnesota coach...they all seemingly wait around and try to counter punch in this state... but Tubby had his boys playing hard and attacking.

Finally a team that seems like it is playing to win and not lose.

NC did not lose this game. Minnesota beat them.

That sounds like the Gophers were lucky. If you look, the Gophers starters are as new as UNC's so they are in the same boat. Plus UNC have more high profile players. The Gophers just took it to them with a very aggresive defense, plain and simple

Congrats on the tourney title gophs!

Pretty rugged game with WVA

Didn't like the lack of offense vs the 1-3-1. Have to work on that.

Finally did an overload, and Hoffarber delivered the big 3 ptr.

These were Myron's 5 ? before the game:

1. Is this team better without Devoe Joseph?
In a hotel lobby, a North Carolina fan asked me that question. And the answer is no.
Devoe Joseph might be the best all-around player on this team. He gives the Gophers an offensive boost when he comes into the game. He's a backup point guard. When he returns, Hoffarber will probably abandon that role.
It's a good sign that the Gophers are playing this well without Joseph. But I believe they'll be better when he returns.
2. What's West Virginia's biggest strength?
The Mountaineers are athletic. What they lack in size, they make up for in athleticism. This team can run the floor.
They'll zone the Gophers and hope they can frustrate Mbakwe and Sampson inside. The Gophers have 66 turnovers through four games. Not good for a team that has to take care of the ball to avoid a letdown.
Casey Mitchell has scored 43 points in two games. He's the kind of off-the-dribble threat that's given the Gophers problems under Smith.
Plus, this is a team that's been to the Final Four. That experience alone will help this team contend for the Big East title.
3. What's the strategy for the Gophers?
Give the ball to the big guys in the paint. Dare an undersized West Virginia squad to contend with the Gophers' size.
While they're preoccupied with the post players, Hoffarber will find shooting opportunities. I think Nolen will control the tempo. West Virginia's two opponents in Puerto Rico have attempted 88 free throws. They will foul. The Gophers just have to hit their free throws.
On defense, the Gophers will try to lock up the paint. Their perimeter players will try to rattle a team that doesn't pass well against pressure (11.5 assists per game, Gophers averaging 16.0 in the tournament). West Virginia's starting backcourt of Darryl Bryant and Mitchell have nine turnovers in two tournament games.
4. What does this tournament mean for some of the Gophers' NBA dreams?
I think Mbakwe and Sampson have put themselves on the NBA map based on the way they've played in Puerto Rico. And I think scouts will take a more serious look at the juniors going forward.
Rodney Williams was already on the radar. But he's displayed some versatility.
This is the first time that Smith has had legitimate NBA prospects at Minnesota.
5. How much more will it cost to keep Tubby?
I think the price goes up every time Smith beats a major program with a coach who makes more money than he does. But it's not just salary. Resources are important.
And a lot of the coaches here have an abundance of resources: private jets, practice facilities, big salaries. Smith made more than $2 million last year. I don't know how much the university will give him. But Smith wants more than that a pay bump, as he continues to negotiate an extension with the school.
A practice facility would be a good start. This program is on the national radar. Now it needs the resources that usually accompany that status.

I do enjoy reading his work. One of the better writers they have.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Puerto Rico Tip-Off was a tournament of revelations, some of them rude: Its only ranked team (No. 9 North Carolina) finished 1-2 and made a strong argument to be unranked by Monday. Its lone preseason All-American (Tar Heels forward Harrison Barnes) was far more freshman-like than All-American-like. Its team with the most aggressive reputation (West Virginia) had its star player (Kevin Jones) admit of his opponent, following the championship game, "They were the aggressor, and they had us on our heels the whole night."
They were the unranked Minnesota Gophers, the Tip-Off's biggest surprise -- a team that traveled here without their best offensive player (suspended combo guard Devoe Joseph) and yet bulled its way past Western Kentucky, North Carolina and West Virginia to win the title. Most discussions about the Big Ten title race have focused on four schools -- Michigan State, Purdue, Ohio State and Illinois -- but the 5-0 Gophers can no longer be ignored. Here's what was revelatory about them, and the rest of the field in San Juan:
• Minnesota's big men were incredibly underrated. I'm among the guilty, having left the quartet of juniors Trevor Mbakwe (the tourney MVP), Ralph Sampson III and Colton Iverson, and sophomore Rodney Williams out of SI.com's preseason frontcourt rankings. But in the past four days I've watched two more-heralded front lines -- Illinois' and North Carolina's -- play with a disappointing lack of physicality, while the Gophers' veteran bigs have overwhelmed opponents with their power and energy. On Sunday against West Virginia, it was the 6-foot-10 Iverson (15 points, eight rebounds) and the 6-8 Mbakwe (16 points, seven rebounds) who dominated, provoking Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins to say, "We're big and strong and young; [Minnesota's] big and strong and old. I'll take big and strong and old all the time."
A main reason the Gophers' bigs were overlooked was because no one knew what to expect out of Mbakwe, who essentially had his D-I coming-out party in San Juan despite it being his fourth year of college. He started at Marquette in 2007-08, playing only 11 games before suffering an injury and eventually transferring to Miami Dade Community College. Following his sophomore season there, he was involved in a felony assault case -- he was accused of attacking a woman, but evidence suggests it was a case of mistaken identity -- that delayed his debut at Minnesota by an entire year. Only after he completed a pre-trial program this offseason was he cleared to play, and he's been a force so far, averaging 14 points and 9.4 rebounds.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) -- Unranked and still unbeaten, Minnesota is taking a championship trophy back home.
The Golden Gophers have put the Big Ten on notice they expect to contend for a more prestigious title.
Blake Hoffarber hit the winning 3-pointer with 1:31 left to lift Minnesota to a 74-70 win over West Virginia on Sunday night in the final of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament.
Hoffarber hit 4 3-pointers and scored 12 points for the Golden Gophers (5-0), who capped their four-day run in Puerto Rico with an early season title they hope catapults them to bigger celebrations.
Al Nolen scored 17 points and Trevor Mbakwe added 16 for perhaps the best Gophers team in four years under coach Tubby Smith. Minnesota beat No. 8 North Carolina on Friday and a Mountaineers (3-1) team fresh off a run to the Final Four.
"We know we beat a very good West Virginia team and we're real excited to have won this tournament," Smith said.
The Gophers went wild when the final horn sounded and did their little huddle dance in front of the bench. They led a strong number of Minnesota fans in chanting for the school and high-fived all the ones in the front row in celebration.
"Leaders lead by example and I think Blake and Al have shown that," Smith said.
They had every reason to smile after this one. This Tubby vs. Huggy matchup was a thriller right from the tip.
There were nine lead changes and the score was tied 10 times in the title game. Hoffarber finally hit the decisive shot on a baseline 3 in front of an exuberant Minnesota bench with 1:31 to go and a 73-70 lead.
The Gophers tossed up a wild shot as the shot-clock expired, giving the Mountaineers one more chance to tie with 24.3 seconds left. But they missed two shots - Nolen was up in Casey Mitchell's face on a 3-attempt on the first one and they missed around the basket on the next.
The Gophers hit one free-throw to secure the win and held the Mountaineers without a field goal for the final 3 minutes.
"We didn't make any shots. It wasn't like we didn't have shots," West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said. "Our execution wasn't right. The right guys, at least I think the right guys, shot the ball."
Mitchell scored 27 points for West Virginia. No one else reached double digits and Mitchell cooled down the stretch.
Mbakwe was the MVP of the eight-team tournament. Mbakwe has paid off for Smith after a troubled college career saw him go from Marquette to a junior college to sitting out a season after he was hit with a felony assault charge that was ultimately dropped when he entered a pretrial intervention program.
"It's been four years and I finally get the chance to go out there and show what I can do," Mbakwe said.
Colton Iverson scored 15 points and had eight rebounds. Iverson put the Gophers up 61-60 on a three-point play and his dunk on a Nolen miss made it a four-point lead.
Kevin Jones hit a tying 3 for the Mountaineers that made it 68-68 and Mitchell tied it at 70 on a pair of free throws.
It was that kind of back-and-forth game without a moment to catch your breath. Hoffarber hits a 3-pointer and Mitchell comes back with a one-handed layup and the foul to cut the Gophers' lead to 42-39.
And when Nolen tossed the ball away on a foolish no-look pass down the lane, there was Mitchell again to capitalize, scoring a fastbreak layup that pulled the Mountaineers to 52-50.
Dalton Pepper banked a 3 and the Mountaineers led 56-55.
The lead didn't last. They never did until the last one.
"We went 5-0 against five very good teams and it's very impressive," Mbakwe said.
Each coach has been to a Final Four: Smith won the 1998 national title at Kentucky; Huggins went last season and in 1992 with Cincinnati.
Mitchell, who hit the winning 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds left to beat Vanderbilt on Friday, came out taking and making seemingly every shot in sight. He scored 16 of West Virginia's first 20 points, and had 18 overall in the first half on the strength of four 3-pointers. In this game, it was only enough to help the Mountaineers keep pace, not the lead.
"At times, you can see that we're a good team, we just have mental breakdowns," Huggins said. "We need to work on some things and get it together."
They did it all in front of a surprisingly packed and loud crowd at Coliseo de Puerto Rico. The single-day crowd of 11,575 was easily a one-day record for the four-year old tournament. West Virginia fans showed they liked to travel when they followed the Mountaineers all the way to Indianapolis during last year's Final Four run. The ones who came down from Minnesota were no doubt pleased they missed the freezing drizzle and rain that coated central and southern Minnesota.
The Gophers went undefeated without Devoe Joseph who was suspended indefinitely this month for a violation of team rules, taking their most versatile offensive player out of the lineup.
"Any time you lose a big-time player like that, it definitely hurts your team," Hoffarber said.
Turns out, they can win without him.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Trevor Mbakwe was banned for a season while an assault case was pending. Al Nolen had to deal with the scarlet letter of being tagged as academically ineligible last season.
Yet, if Minnesota was to be taken seriously as a Big Ten title contender and a real threat to go deep into March, it was Mbakwe and Nolen who were going to have to deliver and lead this team out of its plodding past.

So far they have.
And if this past weekend is a precursor to what is to come, the Golden Gophers will be a treat to watch throughout the season.
Minnesota, sans its top creator and scorer in currently suspended wing Devoe Joseph, won the Honda Puerto Rico Tip-Off Sunday night with a 74-70 victory over West Virginia at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico.
Mbakwe, who before this season hadn't played college basketball since an injury-riddled 11-game stint with Marquette as a freshman two years ago, was the tournament Most Valuable Player after finishing with 16 points and seven boards against the Mountaineers. The senior Nolen led the Gophers with 17 points, made 11 of 12 free throws with four assists, three turnovers and two steals.
"It's surreal to me," said Mbakwe, who played at Miami Dade Community College for a year and sat out all of last season while the assault case was pending. Without admitting guilt, he reached a plea deal that will allow the charge to be stricken from his record once he fulfills some community service. "It's been four years and I finally get a chance to be out here and show what I can do. It shows the balance that we have. It's going to be a long season and I'm looking forward to going to battle with these guys."
Mbakwe was the physical force inside that the Gophers lacked a season ago. He was the edge for Minnesota, something that other teams in this field, notably North Carolina, could use this season.
"He's definitely made a big impact," said Minnesota senior guard Blake Hoffarber. "I've been playing with him and against him for a long time now and I'm glad to say he's finally playing with us. He's a double-double machine. Anytime you get a guy to rebound like that, it definitely helps your team."
Mbakwe averaged 15.3 points and 8.7 rebounds in the three games here.
The bigs of Colton Iverson (15 points off the bench), Ralph Sampson III (who had been a solid performer prior to his two-point effort Sunday) and Maurice Walker have defined the Gophers early on this season. The role play from Rodney Williams, Maverick Ahanmisi, Austin Hollins and Chip Armelin has also been helpful.
And of course the 3-point shooting of wing Blake Hoffarber (four 3s against WVU) is a must.
But the Gophers don't beat the Mountaineers if not for Nolen's leadership, his defensive toughness and his ability to take over a game. A team like North Carolina or Western Kentucky or countless others would love to have a player like Nolen who can dictate the game.
"Al Nolen really ran the team as well as I've seen him do it," Minnesota coach Tubby Smith said.
"I thought Nolen was outstanding taking care of the ball," West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said. "Every time we seemingly had a good stand defensively, they just back-screened and he got in the lane and made plays, got to the free-throw line and made free throws."
The praise being heaped on Nolen was well-deserved. He has come quite a way since last season, when he was singled out for letting his grades slip.
"It was the toughest thing I had to go through in my life," Nolen said. "I was humbled. But it made me the player I am today. It hurt me a lot to see those guys get to the Big Ten tournament final and I couldn't share in the success."
Nolen said there were a mixture of things that led to the surprising February announcement that he was no longer eligible.
"There were family things and I was keeping them to myself and I let it get into my head," Nolen said. "I fell back in school and I couldn't dig myself out of the hole."
Nolen said he took May classes and 19 summer school credits. He said some of the classes were re-takes of classes he had failed. He was eligible to go to Canada with the team for three days in August.
"Once I was ineligible, I was really down and doubted that I could come back," Nolen said. "But I fought back to take a lot of classes, and with the support of my family and the academic people, I was able to claw back out of the hole."
On Sunday night, the coaching staff filed one-by-one out of the locker room and slapped Nolen on the back, with assistant coach Vince Taylor saying how much Nolen's return has meant to the team. Having a senior backcourt of Nolen and Hoffarber gives the Gophers more experience than most in the country, let alone the Big Ten. Nolen said he knows he's not respected for his outside shot and that's why he was looking to make plays going to the basket and drawing fouls.
"This win gives us so much confidence," Nolen said. "We're missing Devoe Joseph, but what this shows is that once he gets back the sky's the limit for this team."
Joseph was suspended for a violation of team rules. But the staff says if he takes care of a checklist of responsibilities, he'll be able to rejoin the team here shortly.
Once that occurs, it might not be out of the question to consider the Gophers a legit Big Ten title contender. Do that and you're a contender to go deep in March.
"I think this definitely sends a message to a lot of teams that we're for real," Nolen said. "We've got a good team, a great coaching staff and we're motivated to work harder."
The Gophers will certainly be ranked Monday -- and may stay awhile, too.
"This was a great tournament," Smith said. "It's the greatest tournament we've ever been in, win or not."
Smith was obviously giddy about his Gophers. So of course he said all the right things. But he really did hit a home run here, being able to beat North Carolina and West Virginia without Joseph, who found out he's not bigger than the program. Now Smith has all the leverage.
Joseph will be back at some point, possibly soon. And when he does join the the team, he will surely fall in line with a group that is finding its footing as second-chance players who play with an edge, a purpose and a passion.

Once Joseph returns it will be a great 3 man rotation at the gurad position of Nolen/Hoff/Joseph keep all three fresh all game. It won't help the younger kids develop but they will get some chances

Nolen had such a great game last night. He is showing his maturity and the team is better for it. Like to see Williams become a better shooter but the other things he is doing is helping the team

What would this team look like if Rodney White stuck around

CBSSports's Gary Parrish ranks the Gophers #7 in his most recent top 25. I'm not sure if I'd go that far, but I continue to believe this team is legit.

Couple sweet wins
Glad to see Hoffarber remains important to the club.
If his shot stays/improves, this team can go places.
