Surprising, impressive win in a tough place.

Did Indiana play a lot of man-man defense? I watched a bit and saw that.

Any team that plays the Gophs man is nuts. They're such a bad zone offense team.

They did both, but the Gophers learned from the Iowa game that they need to be aggressive against the zone. Plus the 3's were falling somewhat, which always helps.

The big surprise is in on conference Welch was best player from line. Then in Ill he missed a FT that could have locked up a win and last night he missed 2 late. Good thing true freshman was ice

Great win against Indiana.  We'll see if that springboards them for the rest of the Big 10 sched.

I doubt it. But props to panndder for calling the win over Indiana. I didn't see it coming. I completely missed the game, and when someone told me that they won, I didn't believe it.

I didn't really call the win, and I didn't think they'd win (though I did think it would be closer than the utter blowout many predicted) going into it. That comment was back from a while back when most (all?) thought Indiana was the 10th or 11th best team in the Conference and even then I spoke in generalities (we should win most of these games).

Or I'm Nostradamus. Who knows.

Glad to get that Penn State game over with and log another road win. I was worried about that one. That would have been classic Gophers to pull off a big win and then turn around and fall flat on their faces the next game. Maybe they are building some momentum.

Coleman seems to be blossoming before our eyes. Becoming a very good player quickly. Was waiting for someone to step up after Mbakwe went down. Thought it would be Williams. Looks like it's Coleman.

I'm kind of disappointed that he won't play this year, but I'm glad Maurice Walker will only be a sophomore next year.  He will be redshirted in 2011-12 now.

Tubby has shut me up.
This team has accomplished a lot more than I thought they would.
These are hugely impressive wins, but at least we are winning the games we should.
Its not that easy.
There are some definite "players" on this roster, for awhile it did not look that way.

When Coleman started getting some run ..... it was interesting to listen to him when he talked to reporters about how foreign losing was to him.
He talked freely about how he had never lost even TWO games in a row in his life, much less more than that.
I think sometimes we underestimate packing your team full of "winners".
You could see it was eating him up, and his game hasn't been the same since, and ..... neither has his teams.    Hmmmmm.

I've done my share of recruiting and evaluating kids .... and "winners" have a way of standing out.

Sorry man. After the last few years I need to see al lot more than a nice little 3 game run. Tubby's body of work to this point isn't much better than Monson's.

How about if they win at Mich St Wed?

The Tubby Gophers have knocked off rated teams every year only to fade into oblivian by the end of the season. No matter what happens at Michigam St., I want to see the Gophers finish in the top half of the Big Ten, make some noise in the conference playoffs and earn a legit NCAA birth. I think that is a reasonable expectation this many years into the tenure of "legendary coach".

Nolen/Joseph/Hoffarber
Williams/White/Mbakwe
Sampson/Walker

Cobbs/Hollins/Carter/Bostick/Iverson

That team goes to the elite eight last year, no question in my mind. I know injuries and transfers happen, but Tubby has had some VERY back luck. His super stud recruit never played a minute. The next best player had legal troubles (his fault or not, we'll probably never know) that delayed him and now he had a season-ending injury. Bostick, Iverson, and Joseph all had a fondness for the wacky tobaccy. Nolen had some family troubles and missed the better half of a season and then broke his foot. Our most promising center tore up his knee. A great sixth man SF transferred to be closer to his sick sister.

In return, we have a lot of spring signees who were only really recruited to be warm bodies on a team that needed them.

Am I disappointed overall? Of course. Do I blame Tubby? Only somewhat.

Yes. Loved the energized atmosphere at the barn. They played very well. If they could sustain that, they could do some real damage yet this season. They seem to have finally put Mbakwe's absence behind them and have made some adjustments.

And Coleman is really playing well. Tubby has been skeaking very highly of him and it's easy to see why. He seems unflappable and ultra-confident out there.

Michigan State is, IMO, far and away our worst matchup in the conference. Ralph/Rodney aren't a good matchup for their strong frontline. If our starting lineup could have been Welch/Coleman/Williams/Mbakwe/Walker it would have been quite a game. It is what it is.

OT win. Nice

Sure looked to me the Gophs played a lot better with Sampson not in the game. Lenard fouling out helped a lot.

Hollins/Hollins. Nice night. Chip contributed a lot,and I actually saw Oto pass up a couple of shots.

4 conference wins now, won 4 of last 5.

The play Sampson fouled out on last night completely sums up his Gopher career for me. Illinois is shooting a live FT, Ralph looses focus and forgets to block out and Leonard just steps in the lane(outworks him). Then, Sampson fouls him but still lets him make the shot. The guy just doesn't have what it takes mentally to become what he can be. He's serviceable, but he could be outstanding with a little mental toughness. I won't miss him next year, I'd rather watch a guy with less talent that works his tail off(Eliason). I'm sure teammates respect that type of player much more anyway.

Nonetheless, a very good win for the Gophs. As Ed said, the Hollins boys stepped up big time. It was good to see Dre making some plays and running the point competently down the stretch and in OT. The cupboard isn't as bare as I thought it was a month ago.

I so hope Hollins picks it up on the point. Love how he pushes the ball. Made some good decisions.

Sampson reminds me of the nickname given to Duane THomas for those of you who were around in the 60s/70s

The Sphinx. He's a flatliner, and he plays like that far too often.

Royce White is one of the best players in the country, and a serious argument could be made that he is THE best. This sucks.

No idea what he's like as a person now. Unfortunate he was a knucklehead at the U.

Talent never in question.
