And give it away, they did.

16 turnovers. ugh

too bad, had MICH on the ropes.

Still cannot stand watching them waste the shot clock til 10, then never really get something done. Happens too often in the Tubby offense.

Mich threw the zone on us, and we panicked.

Not blaming the loss on the refs, because the Gophers beat themselves again with turnovers, but Ed Hightowers crew sucks. That call that fouled Austin Hollins out of the game was pathetic. There was another charging call on Austin where the defender had his foot in the circle. The charging call on Eliason in the first half was another bullshit call. In the end though, they just can't make good decisions including Tubby. Late in the game when Welch actually broke down the defense and had a 2 on 1 with Eliason on the baseline for an easy dunk and Tubby calls timeout. After the timeout they get nothing. Coleman needs to learn how to actually shoot a jump shot if he ever plans on becoming a decent college player. He's also is a turnover machine when he puts the ball on the floor. They might have finally found themselves a point guard. Hollins was great the last few games. This team won't miss Sampson one bit, he was a total waste of a scholarship. The Kid has zero heart. Alot of kids would have sucked it up and tried to play, but they were probably better off without him.

NIT! NIT! NIT!

Agreed. They played much better. Eliason is more decisive passing. Ralph gets the ball. fiddles around, then goes for his hook shot.
I don't think he likes playing post.Doesn't seem comfortable with the post up style of play.

I really like our lineup for next year:

Dre/Mav
Austin/Ellenson
Rodney/Joe
Mbawke/Bugs
Walker/Eliason

I'm excited about next year, too. Andre Hollins was named to the All-Tournament Team. It was him and 2 players from both Michigan State and Ohio State (who were in the Championship game). He's going to be special, I think. People make fun of the NIT, and obviously it's not very prestigious, but I'm excited that this team has more games to play. I think it'll bode well going into next season.

Don't forget, Phil, that Welch is only a junior this year. The only true PG will again be arguably the least-talented guard (Ahanmisi) but I think another year under their belt will make Hollins and Welch a fairly formidable tandem.

I'm such a homer.

Ralph actually reminds me a lot of Darko.

The eye test says they both should be really good players, but both play soft on offense, rebound poorly for the position and are inconsistant, but talented defenders that can block shots.

They also both appear to have the same motivational issues and both seem like they'd be happier if they were half a foot shorter and could play guard.

Mbakwe won't be back, will he?

Oto is ok in spurts. I don't like Mav much, and am hoping Welch will get over turning the ball over quicker and transition to defense better. Coleman with improved outside shooting is a must. Ditto Williams.

Gophers need to dump Tuby Smith and go after Tim Miles at Colorado State. He inherited a terrible program when he arrived and has his team earning an at large bid this season.

He has turned unsuccessful programs into successes whereever he has gone.

http://www.csurams.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/miles_tim00.html

Someone will hire him away from CSU and be successful.

I remember pushing for him even when he was at lowly smsu here in Marshall
Dudes a mover and a shaker
We were lucky to have him for a limited time
Smsu now takes elite eight appearances for granted
Miles came over this weekend to see his old school compete out there in Colorado.
The pg who r an the team when miles was here, is now the HC at smsu.

Miles is certainly one of the (few) guys I'd definitely look at if the time came, but for all of his faults firing Tubby would be akin to welcoming chaos into this program. The "if Tubby can't win there, who can?" mentality would be hard to shake nationally, I think.

You are probably right Panndder....I get impatient. But I really think Tubby has lost the fire in his belly. It is really tough to maintain that over time....especially if you essentially start over. Coach K can maintain it since all he has to do is reload each year. The program sells itself these days.

But keep your eye on Miles if you are the U of M.

Normally, it can be bad going "home" per se. But in this case, the guy wins where ever he goes. No, the U of M is not his alma mater but he is an upper midwest guy. But he has left and is winning in a tough place to win. (nice place to go to school.....Ft. Collins is awesome). CSU was a hole in terms of BB. He has turned them around in 5 years.

And he was successful at NDSU in their transition years.......went into Madison and knocked off the Badgers....the program he established enabled NDSU to win the Summit league tournament their first year post season eligible.

And, he coached at Mayville State and was successful. Trust me, winning at my undergrad alma mater is no small feat.

I've read that the U is Miles's dream (or realistic dream?) job. Not sure how much truth there is to it. I'm a big fan, no doubt. I just don't think it's time to make a move yet.

It's easy to say Tubby has lost his fire, but you could also say he's at a point where he's not going to be walked over and has let some problem cases out of the pressure cooker. I'm not sure which is the case.

At one time the talk was to get Flip Saunders in here. Is he still considered an attractive candidate?

I don't know. I think he's been exposed in the NBA, but I do think he'd be a much better college coach. That said, I'd absolutely take Miles 100 out of 100 times over Flip.

Miles on Miles?

I am so confused.

And, Oh,yeah, take this guy before anyone else gets the idea. I understand the Tubby can't win who can?

But the fire is only occasionally there. I think he's worn down because he can't get the Taj Mahal or even plus-palace to sell kids on.

Add to that the knuckleheads who leave here and flourish elsewhere, so he's got to hear about that constantly.

They apparently have a new winner there, eh? Took out mighty Wy-nona State in the NSIC.

Yep. Bigler.
Point guard for Miles when he was here.
Passed on the same principles and ethics.
NSic champs for first time ever, and another nat tournament appearance.

I seriously doubt the U will dump Tubby.

I'm actually hoping they do ok, and he bails, then they could pursue and up-and-comer like Miles.

1-11 on 3's and they win going away.

LaSalle did them a favor playing man. MN is pretty competent in man offense.

Improve the 3's. That should be the goal of this bunch. with some BIG help, could be fun next year.
