Great first period
Lead Mich State 3-0
Outshooting them 13-5
Looks like the boys wanted to play against someone else for a change.
Nice and physical from everyone.

General thoughts:

Kinda unfair and I would feel bad if they weren't MSU. I've been in games like that. That first period was not fair. Have you ever played against a team, and when you hit the ice, you had no idea what that type of speed was? It takes you by total surprise and you just have to hang on for dear life until the intermission.

By then, it was over.

This team will go as far as their attitude takes them. I'm calling it now. National Champs. MG brings that level of hard work attitude we need. Why? Cause most of these guys are superstars that need grounding.

The speed at which we back ckeck now is astounding. That is all WORK. totally geeked.

BTW- not worried about our GK if our back checkers work like that.

Great observations Jeff
All so true
Talented guys who buy in to back checking? Unbeatable.

You bring up great stuff
Our blue chippers have a gear some of these "other" teams don't believe .... Until they have to chase it.

You could see MSUs defenders stepping up to stop the rush at the blue, and then just getting bum rushed.
"damn, during practice, I was stopping everyone coming in the zone".

All this said .... Bet tomm night will be fun
MSU will get their asses chewed until then, and will be laying smack down early.
Will be fun to see how we respond. They are a decent program.

Yeap, great point man. First 15 are vital tonight. If we bitch slap them again in the first 15, it's over.

I think we need to be careful about reading too much into last night's game.  It looks like the MSU Spartans are overranked at #16.  They don't have the speed to hang with a team like the Gophers on a regular basis.  We won't get our first real test until Wisconsin comes to Mariucci on Nov 16.

No way dude. MSU was a tourney team that didn't lose 1/2 their roster. They may not be top 5, but they are a legit program every year (minus a down year here or there like us).

We are already up 2-0 and it could be worse. I'm not saying we are the greatest team ever, but it takes time to get in to your yearly rhythm. That isn't a problem for us right now. We are beating the shit out of a very good (traditionally) team.

These guys aren't bums but we are making them look like it. We have no excuses. Whether or not it comes to fruition. Who knows.

MSU is already getting scrappy. We need to be smart. Been a long 3 1/2 periods for them. It doesn't surprise me.

Wow, what a great night (Sat) to back up a great start (Fri).
Just overwhelmed them, and then even handled their frustration well.
MSU is Sioux-like, and that showed when they decided to run the goalie after awhile.
We stood up to that and answered with more pressure, liked that.
Really liking the puck movement from our D, less plodders who don't make good first passes this year the way it looks.
Bodes well. Skjei looked sharp on some plays.
Really a nice combo of size and speed on the roster. It looks like a guy like Serratore will get some run if he stays smart, good for him.
Didn't need goaltending, but they both looked solid so far, nothing dumb, nothing scary. Stick to the near post, don't give up stupid chances, take face-offs.  Easy formula.

"They're awfully good," Spartans coach Tom Anastos said. "I thought they were a real good team [last year]. They're way better. They were strong. They were fast. They were skilled."
The triumph was the 599th of Lucia's 26-year career

Rough first period. Lucia needs to axe that Alt/Reily partnership on D. They were brutal.
