Shortell has some abilities, but he seems to lumber in the pocket and he is not accurate on his "outside" passes. I'm disappointed in his play.

On the other hand, he's not real accurate on his "inside" passes either...

I know, I know ..... this doesn't matter, but  ......
Another tough break for us
Northwestern takes their first loss today, will be pissed off next week and looking to get back on track.
I was hoping they'd come in 6-0 and cocky.
Should be a good game, with two teams looking to prove themselves and get back on track.

The Gophers are going to destroy Northwestern. Count on it. I'm rarely wrong.

Pretty please no more posts guaranteeing a win for the Gophers? You're killing us!

Good sign for us that Iowa went in and beat MSU
Maybe all Big Ten games are winnable ...

Get more pissed every time I watch that stupid 4th down attempt.
Its 4th down
Give someone a chance
If a QB doesn't have any more knowledge of down/distance/situation than that, don't play him.
On 4th down you give as many options for completion as you can.
I can remember being a 16 year old QB, and we went for it on 4th down several times a game (HS style, you do)
And before we broke huddle, my last comments were always ... if I dont get to the sticks, be ready to fight for the ball, because its getting tossed up into the air. Fight for it.
And it would get caught 4 out of 5 times. 2 or 3 of those times, by my own guys, thankfully.
The ball cannot hit the ground there. Put it into a dangerous area, if thats all you have ... do they not "get" this stuff?
He threw that thing  12 yards out of bounds.   (and then just shrugged his shoulders)
Thats moronic.

Agree
It was the game....what difference if it is intercepted. Get it to a player or player so they have a chance to make a play. And even if it wasn't late in the game......4th down....pass that no one can catch vs. one that maybe you get lucky on.

Appreciate the honesty.

Shortell is in over his head.  Don't play Nelson, but if Gray is at even 70%, use him.

To pile on, it was just pathetic decision-making to attempt that pass anyway (was that the #1 option on the play call? I sure hope not). Given this comparatively unathletic and unskilled WR corps, WHY ON EARTH would you try to throw a jump ball to any of them? Your best chance is the TE across the middle or a WR slant -- not a pitch-and-catch requiring the kind of athleticism and playmaking skills your receivers largely lack.

I'm not sure yet. I heard Grey wasn't ready to go at QB and now if Shortell is injured, I guess not much choice. If Kill just thinks he is the best to help us win and worth burning a red shirt, I'll go along. But the big problem is the defense stopping the running game

The other injuries are not good either. I believe both Olson's are out. A few WR's banged up also.....good luck Mr. Nelson!

The Gopher defense has been unable to stop the run in all three of their Big Ten games. Today, in Madison, against one of the best rushing attacks in football, it was no different. James White and Montee Ball combined for 341 yards and 5 touchdowns leading the Badgers to a 38-13 win over the Gophers.

Today I finally figured out something that was bothering me a bit. Stoudemire is the B10 all time leading kick off guy. It's not because he's good at it. It's because we've been on the rx-ing end of the KO about 80% more than any other team.

Expected a 48-3 type game, so not sure if I'm satisfied or pissed
We're just not there yet.
Hurts to give up a year of Nelson ... Now what do you do?

It probably won't matter. If Kill/Limegrover keeps running his QBs 15-25 times per game in the B1G, we're going to be going through 3 QBs a year anyway.

- I guess Kill already said that Gray is moving to WR. Hmmmm......Isn't that what Brewster did? Hmmm....

- Let me get this straight. So Gray is healthy enough to start at WR but not QB. Burn the redshirt? Really?

- How about this: Lets run our QB 16 times and all other backs combined 12 times. Who's next in line? Maybe by years end we can burn Leidner's RS too.

- Duke 33 / North Carolina 30. Good thing Duke is not on our schedule. It might cost $900K!

- 18 & 25 point losses to our 2 biggest rivals. The honeymoon IS over.

Satisfied or pissed? You can probably figure out where I'm at right now.

Mixed emotions on the QB situation.

If indeed Gray is being moved full-time to WR I guess I can understand it, but it's still disappointing. I still think all things considered he's the best option at QB. That's not a statement that I think he's been a great QB, it's more a statement of the mess at the QB position in general. Nelson is young, and Shoretell has shown he's not up to the task full-time. At least Gray gives you a multi-dimensional QB that gives defenses more to think about...although I wish he would have excelled more at those dimensions.

They are probably doing Gray a favor. Let's face it. After four years, the QB dream is dead. Any football future he's going to have is not going to be as a QB. Giving him some game experience at WR at the end of his career gets him into that pipeline and gives scouts something tangible to look at.
