You know I have to give Coach Kill props. I don't think anybody looks forward to playing the Gophers. They play beyond their talent.

I agree with that Steve. You could really see a huge disparity in talent today. Their 225 QB ran past our secondary for a 90 yd TD, and the secondary is the best part of our team. They just have some DUDES that we don't have yet, and honestly will rarely get at MN. Kill coaches these guys up.

Our receivers weren't getting much seperation and when they did, Liedner threw a little late.

As for uniforms, the school has a contract with a shoe company for advertisement and I believe they provide the shoes and uniforms instead of money

Wisconsin just isn't very good. Maybe a chance to take the Axe and still get to a reasonable bowl.

Don't see us winning in Lincoln.

Our Oline did give OSU all they could handle and Cobb is a load to bring down.

Too bad we couldn't have kept the running game going in the 3rd qtr to keep the ball away from OSU.

At one point Leidner had 6 completions (early 4th qtr) two though were to the wrong uniform.

If we had a qb that was a real threat with his arm this could be an outstanding team.

OSU's speed was clearly the difference. They have some talented players.

The missed FG in the 3rd hurt a ton.

Other than that,

CRAP

They had a shot at it. Not taking a "moral victory" away from this.

Nebraska's QB is terrible as well. After the beating we're taking today we may lose out.

If that's the case, or as someone said earlier that it's dedicated funds for that specific purpose, fine. But if you could simply wear the same uniforms, that money could go to myriad other things within the athletic dept or elsewhere, it's pretty odd. The U is far from the only team doing it, though.

Morning everyone, stayed up to watch the game last night and then checked out for a few hours sleep before a long day today.
It was a frustrating game to watch at times. We were close at times to really making on both sides of the ball only to not quite make them.
Of the last three games I would say that the OSU game is the most accurate in terms of who this team is.
They are not as bad as the Illinois game nor as good as the Iowa game.
This team can compete. And on those first two OSU scores the D just needed that extra couple of inches or 1/2 second sooner to stop the big play.
The D had good pressure I thought, however they could not prevent the big plays. They had them 3rd and long a number of times and just could not make that one more play.
On the other side of the ball, Liedner is not the QB to help them take that next step. And I don't always care for the plays being called either.
I hope the team takes from this that they can compete and that if they put in the effort they will create more opportunities to win games.
I do hope the team takes from this that they can well and truly compete, now they need to get to that next step of actually winning a couple of these big games.
I don't expect either Nebraska or Wisconsin to be as good as OSU and over the last couple years, if my memory is correct, the gophers have manage a nice "upset" win.
I think they are a chance to win one of these two games, maybe both.
Despite the frustrating of not being able to get over the top, I do think Kill has this team in a position to continue compete and improve.
Here's hoping for a win next week. I will no doubt be up late again watching.

Agreed Ed. Moral victories don't count towards your bowl aspirations. I am somewhat happy that they competed, but very disappointed that they had a shot and didn't pull it out.

We should and damn well better beat Nebraska.

They have guys that can torch you in one play, we don't. That's what killed us. We would be doing well and then, shit, big play. We are getting close.

I think one of the biggest mistakes the coaching staff made was not throwing the ball more early in the season. We knew the passing game was a weak link and had a chance to fine tune it then. Down the road you have teams like OSU, Wisc, etc. where you have to make a few plays throwing the ball.
I get that we are a power running team, but we still need to be able the throw the ball. 18 pass attempts vs Easter Ill., 11 against Middle Tenn and just 7 vs San Jose State? Those are missed opportunities. That's 36 pass attempts in 3 games...versus 148 rushing attempts.

Almost exactly what I planned to say
Very proud of the program today
Take away their one or two freak athletes, and we can beat them.
We are getting there.
Shoulda passed more early in the season. Woulda paid off now.
Fun to see the program on the way up for a change. Good staff.

Nebraska is absolutely terrible. I see the Gophers running at-will on the Huskers, just like they did last season, and putting Pelini on the hot seat in Lincoln.

If Minnesota wins, they will playing Wisconsin for the west title in two weeks.

The biggest difference on Saturday was at quarterback. Barrett is good and Leidner is not. After two seasons I would have hoped Leidner would be better, but it is time to give up on the kid. His decision making is brutal. Two years in, he should know when to throw the ball into the tuba section and live to see another down. Instead, he is still throwing the ball into a crowd and trying to make a play when it isn't there. In addition, he made some very poor decisions on the read option. There was plenty of times when he handed the ball off to Cobb where the Buckeye defensive end had lost containment and committed to Cobb. Instead of big gains by the QB, they turned into minimal gains for Cobb.

After two years, the kid should be better at the basics.

Minnesota teams (in all sports) have a way of curing what ails every other team they play. I don't know if I'll ever feel confident of a Minnesota win again.

Yes, I'm being overly dramatic but this weekend has been a KILLER.

Whaaaa?
You're usually ten times more optimistic than me ...
How can anything the Gophs FB team did yesterday upset you?
We SHOULD have been 21 point dogs.
We proved yesterday we are becoming relevant. Just because we didn't upset them doesn't change how much we have improved.

Pelini is already on the hot seat. Wins 9 games every year, but how we play in big games has struck terror and anger among the fans.

It's cumulative. It's easy to look at one or two games and look for the upside, and I usually do that. But when you win one game out of 6 in a weekend, and one of the losses being a "make or break the season" game - I get really down.

But yes, both the Gopher football and basketball teams showed some things for us to feel good about, but while we LOST both of those games Wisconsin annihilated their opponents and won. Just in my household it has been about 12 years of a complete and total tilt - and a person gets REALLY tired of that.

Hang in there Lynn.  Think about this for a second.  The Illinois loss sucked.  Outside of that, we have been beaten by 2 of the teams that will be considered for the final 4.

In fact, you could make a case for both to be in there now.  If they both win out (TCU/OSU) it's going to be hard to keep them out of it.

3 losses.  One was a bad/freaky, the other 2 were Nat Champ contenders.
