In the 4th quarter the Gophers held the lead and had 3 possessions. This is when we should be able to do what we do best...RUN THE BALL. But this was their play selection...

Rodney Smith - 1 carry
Shannon Brooks - 1 carry (5 yards)
Leidner had 1 carry
6 passes called

Those three possessions netted exactly zero first downs and 15 yards (20 gained, -5 for penalty). After that the clock was no longer on our side and we trailed by a touchdown so it was 100% passing, and at this point you are going to see more passes than anything else.

I just had an epiphany. I'm done with the Goofers.

I will still wear their garb, but only because I live here and I already bought it.

I keep thinking "Tin Man" when I watch the Gopher offense. Everyone is just so...mechanical. Stiff. No pass is thrown to a spot, but rather (if we are lucky) to a stationary receiver who is double covered. They look scared on offense. Worried. Same thing two weeks in a row.

I recall, when Kill was out medically, that the offense seemed to loosen up and play with some zest, some imagination, some pace. That fizzled out upon Claeys' hire and hasn't returned. It's sad to see. And what happened to Santoso? My gosh, this kid could boom FG's through the uprights from about anywhere. Now he struggles to get off a 33 yard low line drive punt when it counts.

More than ever, I'm convinced the PC, walk-on-eggshells culture at the U of M is holding back our major sports in terms of recruiting players AND coaches. It just doesn't appear to be any fun for any of 'em. Everyone's waiting for the next shoe to drop. College is supposed to be FUN! Maybe Coyle can somehow rise above it, but I doubt it.

Santoso = tired. hell the dude punts more than anyone in the land (guessing)

Your other point Mark, it's the coaching staff. We look stiff because we are. We don't have athletes. They aren't beating anyone off the ball.

We won't compete for anything until we get a real coaching staff in here. No good recruits want to come to Minnesota and play for TC's. I hate that it's the truth but it is. We aren't out recruiting Michigan, MSU, OSU, Wisc and even Iowa. They all have legit coaching staffs.

Or maybe not.

They are staying within two TDs basically.
Better than the rest of the Big16 or whatever we are .. will be able to do.

Tuned in late just in time to witness several dropped passes an int topped off by a variety of false start penalties.

Claey's is a baffoon.

Leidner makes Stave look accurate.

Very cool to see Navy down a tough Houston team today.

And ... man was I wrong about Mich State.
I really thought D'Antoni had created an annual powerhouse there that simply reloads.
They are getting pounded this year.
BYU manhandled them today. MSUs third straight loss.

Penn State's kicker got laid out again, another ejection.

Nothing wrong with either hit except for the fact that they were both after the whistle. If the guy thinks he can have a free run at kick returners he needs to be prepared to be blocked and blocked hard.

He or anyone else shouldn't be blocked after the whistle.

I'd give him an offsetting penalty for embellishment though. That was clearly a dive.

Same could be said for Stanford I guess.
They had me fooled too.
Getting spanked these days.

The way the announcers were giving that kid all kinds of hype and kudos before the Gopher game I was real happy to see him get blasted a good one. And now a second week in a row....I love it!
He could very well be a marked man from here on out.

I've just always questioned whether Claeys can take on all the stuff that's required of a head coach. He might be a good ol' coach when it comes to practicing and knowing x's and o's and all that stuff. But a head college football coach has to do so much more. You have to wear many hats and juggle many plates. It just doesn't seem like he embraces that.

Interesting. Not just not starting, but ruled out:

Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner ruled out for Maryland game
CONNOR O'GARA

If Minnesota is going to win its first B1G game this year, it’ll come without its starting quarterback.

The Gophers’ depth chart ruled that Mitch Leidner will be out this Saturday when the Gophers travel to take on Maryland.

It’s unknown what the injury is. The team said that Leidner wasn’t hurt in Saturday’s loss to Iowa, despite completing only 13 of 33 passes. Leidner did have offseason foot injury, which plagued him throughout his career.

Leidner has struggled against FBS foes this year. In four games against FBS competition in 2016, he has just one touchdown pass.

Without the senior, Minnesota will turn to Conor Rhoda, who will make his first career start. The junior appeared in the Indiana State game and completed one pass for six yards in the blowout victory.

The 6-3, 215-pound signal-caller could also rotate with Demry Croft, who presents a dual-threat look for the Gophers.

Minnesota and Maryland are set to kick off at noon ET on ESPNU.

but didn't they say the other day there was no concussion?

The Twins must be loaning out training staff.

Or the U was using student trainers to determine the extent of owie.
