Exactly. I don't care if OSU was playing back-ups or a softer defense. Gray was decisive with the ball and threw it on time and on target. 3 things Weber struggles with.

Exactly.  But do you actually think Gray will be starting next week?  I don't.

Nope. Weber will get one more week. Is Brewster the football version of Gardy?

At least Gardy gets results.  All Brewster does is talk a lot, then get worked on Saturdays.

I've seen enough to install him as starter the rest of the year.

I knew he could run, but he throws a nice ball, made quick decisions and good release.

Good points.  Go back to the spread for the rest of the year, install Gray and Whaley as your starting backfield.  Get Hayo, Green, Stoudermire, and Decker spread out over the field so defenses have to put in dime and nickel defenses so it'll be easier for Gray and Whaley to run the ball.  Our line obviously SUCKS, so minimize that weakness by getting people on defense away from the line.  This is the offense these guys were recruited to run, let them have their best chance to be successful.

You have to give gray a shot.  I agree completely with the points on the OLINE. Gray can run it well but that drive he was impressive with the arm, thats huge, thats tough to stop.  It also makes the backs more effective and frankly the defense hasnt been terrible.  Dont want to get the cart ahead of the horse but Gray could actually turn the entire season, a player like that can elevate the play of those around him.  To not start Gray at this point would be a disservice to the team.  Seriously, if he can throw the ball that well consistently the Gophers can do some damage.

Yeah, I thought I heard something incorrectly....please clarify. They showed the Top 5 in the Chase....and Jeff Gordon was circled....and I wasn't paying close enough attention....but was it something like "there we go...now we're talking...Jeff Gordon in there instead of that darker skinned weird accented Juan Pablo Montoya thingie."

Who apologized? It was Griese who said it, right?

I was wrong. Montoya was "out having a taco." Check out the first story of many to come:

http://www.thatsracin.com/140/story/21240.html

To top it off, watching it live, Jeff Gordon was circled, inferring that Gordon was a preferred replacement for Montoya in the Top 5.

The real test will be if Jim Frenette says it's Marquis Gray time. If so, then Brewster is ridiculously overdue in making a change.

I've said in the past this wasn't the way to play him. They needed all year let him run complete series instead of 1 play here and there

I think the biggest problem was the play calling. It seemed like 80% of the pass plays were the out routes and they are the hardest to run and OS was on the receivers on all of them. They needed to have more slants, over the middle routes and the TE up the middle. We saw how well that worked on the TD drive

With a different QB.

Who's #1 in college football? Looks like 2 different networks disagree. CBS has #1 Alabama playing Tennessee on TV right now. But I saw ESPN advertising #1 Florida playing Mississippi State tonight.

Can someone explain to me how the 1960 Gophers finished 8-2, while losing the Rose Bowl, but were still named AP National Champions?

Alabama is #1 in the pole and ESPN uses their own pole for their games

That Tennessee kicker really sucks! Highly doubt that kick was gonna be good even if it managed to slip by the line.

Matt what sucked was the coach willing to settle for the 44 yd kick where it has to be a line drive. They were at the 27 with 42 seconds left. Plenty of time to pick up another 10 to 15 yds to make it more of a chip shot. The Tenn kids deserved a better shot at winning that game

From Coach Idiot:

Tim Brewster couldn't have been more emphatic: Adam Weber is the Gophers' starting quarterback.

after the game ended, neither Gray nor Brewster acted as though that drive was enough to prompt a change in the starting lineup. The drive came against a Buckeyes defense playing several backups with a 38-point lead. "I don't know if significantly more," Brewster said when asked if Gray's play earned him a lot more playing time. "We'll see. He's involved in our plan. Whether or not we expand that plan ... or what we decided to do against Michigan State remains to be seen."

Give Brewster more time - maybe a game By Mark Craig, Star Tribune
Last update: October 24, 2009 - 7:38 PM

COLUMBUS, OHIO - We're 33 games into the Tim Brewster era and not really sure if this is still the beginning or perhaps the beginning of the end.
A 38-7 loss at Ohio State on Saturday dropped Brewster to 12-21, 5-16 in the Big Ten. That's not good enough, but it's also hard to give up on a guy after less than three years when he was hired based on his ability to recruit.
Ironically, in the midst of a second-half pratfall that ranked alongside some of Brewster's worst moments, his prized recruit, quarterback MarQueis Gray, had his best overall game. He ran for 81 yards while completing five of the first six passes of his career for 51 yards and a touchdown pass to Troy Stoudermire late in the game that saved Brewster from posting the program's first back-to-back shutout losses since 1950.

I think Weber would look an awful lot better if we had a running game.
