They’ve just given up at this point. We won’t even be bowl eligible

Everyone's acting like these kids have all day, every day to focus on football. They have classes to attend and need to spend time studying. Take it easy.

There is 9 minutes to go before halftime. If this were a drinking game where you had to drink every time the color guy questioned Flecks decisions, you’d be hammered by now.

I'm sorry but Fleck needs to go. We will never win big games with him. OSU was pinned inside their 20 with about 22 seconds on the clock. We have 2 TO's. We get a sack so they are pinned inside their 15. He doesn't even take the TO and force them to punt. He just lets them run the clock down and walk off in to the locker room. Any coach with even a bit of a spine forces them to punt and comes after it hard.

What the hell was he afraid of? An 85 yard fake punt???????? It's just mind blowing how badly he manages in game scenarios.

You think Ryan Day and OSU were embarrassed only being up 13-0 at halftime? First play of the half = 80 TD run. 2nd play = AK getting strip sacked and they run it down to the 5. 2 plays later it's 27-0. Took about 50 seconds.

LOL. Next series AK is picked off and they run it down to the 15. We are so bad.

I sure hope Fleck has an incredible graduation rate because watching him lead his team in a sprint down the field to end the 3rd, down 30-0, is pretty embarrassing to watch. If I were a high recruit I’d want nothing to do with that.

His team is getting in to a bowl game with a 5-7 record based on their grades, so I guess there is that........

Looks like we're gonna face Jerry Kill in a Bowl Game. The University of Minnesota simply has to lower its academic standards to compete in football.

I'm sure PJ will milk the "Academics got us into a bowl game" angle for everything it's worth. Got to find a silver lining somewhere.

As I predicted, Athan Kaliakmanis has entered the transfer portal.

Bowl games pay the bills but......man did we stink this year.

Not surprising. Was a little surprised that the kid from Michigan also entered.

AK has a lot of arm talent but he's not a good QB. Needs to develop a change up. 90+ MPH fastballs aren't always the way to go.

Not a surprise at all. AK is not Mitch Liedner or Tanner Morgan. He has some real upside, but will never realize it in this system with these coachees.

Not a surprise. I do give PJ credit for telling Kaliakmanis now that he’d be looking outside the program for QB help and there would be a competition for the starting job, instead of springing it on him later.

Some stodgy faithful will say if you believe in yourself you should stay and compete for the job. But this is life in the era of the portal and I will never blame a player for doing what he feels is best for himself.

And the larger question remains, is Minnesota the best place for him to develop anyway? Probably not.

Yeah, he's not Mitch or Tanner. They are both better QBs.

Tanner and Mitch were both better as Sophomores----not as Junior or Seniors (they sucked and are in the dictionary as regression examples)

I have a feeling it was more PJ pursuing a QB because AK gave him a heads up he would be entering the portal.

Could be, but according to Star Tribune:

quote:

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, coach P.J. Fleck met with the Gophers quarterbacks and would not fully guarantee who the starter would be in the 2024 season. Fleck told the group he would look into the transfer portal for competition leading into next year.

But who knows which came first. That meeting or AK's decision to leave.

It's just my gut feeling Karl. Kaliakmanis would have been an idiot to not at least be considering the portal. The talk probably made the decision real easy.

The Gophers appear to have traded up at QB. Max Brosmer is transferring to Minnesota for his final year of eligibility.

Brosmer's last 2 seasons:
2022: 3,154 yards, 27 TDs and 8 INTs.
2023: 3,459 yards, which was best in the FCS level, 29 TDs and 6 INTs All-CAA.

Brosmer was the 5th rated QB available in the portal, Kaliakmanis was rated #10.

I'm a bit surprised Fleck can get a QB of any merit to run his stone age offense.
