Issue is not Basement Brew. Salient issue is that Mother Maturi CAN NOT be allowed to hire next coach.

DanBarreiroKFAN
If there was a state of West Dakota, and it had a college fball team, Tim Brewster would lose to it.

TomPelissero
Gophers just not ready to beat the South Dakotas of the world. Would have been a big program win. Maybe next year they can schedule Hamline

SouhanStrib
South Dakota 41, Gophers 38. For the last time, I did not make any of this up. Gophs would be 0-2 if MiddleTenn qb doesn't get suspended

chipscoggins
So Tim Brewster now has losses to North Dakota State and South Dakota. And he talks about a media agenda. Interesting.

darrenrovell1
South Dakota, which got paid to beat Minnesota today, lost $235,304 on its football program last year

DanBarreiroKFAN
Here's your stat: Even after late handoff, 2 knees, Coyotes averaged 7.5 yards per play.

6 TDs and 450 yards of offense.

Its like we're in the Wacker days - except we don't have 50 up on the board.

Well the coach talks a good game, yet they can't get it done.

Can Maturi while you're at itl.

I figured I'd wait a couple hours, so I wouldn't embarass myself.
Didn't help.
I'm more angry now than I was when that f-ing debacle ended.
Worst loss of any kind in Gopher sports history. That blows the Holy Cross hockey loss completely out of the water.
Because .....
* we weren't flat
* we weren't screwed by refs/travel/karma
* we weren't simply out-anythinged in one area ..... it was EVERY area.

That was an ass-kicking. By a lower-tier team.
Disclaimer * I love the USD team. I love their ingenuity, their drive, their scheme, their attitude, their entire package.
They walked into a supposed big-time program's building, and kicked ass. And if it wasn't against MY Gophers, I'd be happier for them than any man on the planet.
But here is why this is the worst ....
EVERY player on the USD roster, if you re-wound the clock .... would be on the GOPHER roster instead of the Yote roster (back when, if given a chance)
THAT is what tells you there is a coaching problem, because you choose the players for your roster, and this is Brewsters 4th year.
If the players are the problem, it's on the coaches who chose them.
If the game plan is the problem, it's on the coaches who drew it up.
No more smokscreens, no more rah-rah, no more lies .... this has been a wasted 4 years, as evidenced by the result today.
Because, as I said .... the better players won today.
The better game plan won today. The better program won today.
Pathetic.

I was here in Marshall when Ed Meirkort showed up to play for SMSU. He scratched and clawed to play for the Mustangs, and he scratched and clawed to just GET a coaching job, much less turn Stout around, and now, turn USD into a good program. He did it with toughness, and moxie, and drive, just like his players play with. He had no pedigree, he simply had drive and a plan. And he just had a wonderful day.
Hats off to him. And shame on us for hiring what we did.

That is the single most embarrassing moment in Gopher football history. Brewster should be fired immediately.

Yep
Hell yep.
Now, not later. Now.

And then ... go find the 195 people who voted that Brewster isn't the problem, and kick them out of the state.
For the last time, we have to decide if we are truly serious about major college sports at the U or not.
The football program is as low as it can get. And here comes USC.

Knew I shouldn't have Sallied-out last week and agreed with some that we beat a good opponent.
THEY sucked. We just sucked less. It wasn't major-college football, and we should have known it.
Our friends from Nebraska tried to warn us about Cosgrove, but no..................... we knew better.
Worst defense ever assembled in DI football is a distinct possibility.
Our weak-ass opponent last week had the ball for 14 minutes (Thank God) and still rolled up offense.
We should have known.

And .... BTW ...... if your defense IS so putrid it cannot stop South Dakota, then your offense, with all their returning starters, and your 60-start QB, then better score enough to win.
If it takes scoring 80, score 80.

What will piss me off the most, is that we won't look at USD and learn a damn thing. At least learn something.
They passed when we thought they would run.
They ran when we thought they would pass.
They didn't sit on the lead.
They didn't consider any lead "enough" or any bad break against them, insurmountable.
LEARN something from a superior opponent once. Just once. Please!

Jim Wacker ball. We may have given up 60, but we were going to put up 50+.

We're going to see games this year where we give up 60 or 70 and score 10.

If there was one game this year that Brewster simply couldn't afford to lose, it was this one.  And they lost.  I have to think it sealed his fate.  I'm not even sure what it would take to retain him.  Maybe TWO signature wins this year (USC, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State) AND a bowl win?  Money back to all Gopher fans?  A public apology?  Probably not gonna happen.  So that means yet another new offensive system next year.  I wonder what the record is?  Seriously, who will be available & willing to take the job?  Tony Dungy?  Steve Logan?  Tommy Bowden?  Gotta be someone out there who's decent.....

I knew the defense would be a source of frustration at times this year.........................but..................that was a pretty extreme way to prove a point.  What the hell was going on out there?????????   It's not like South Dakota will prove to be an elite FCS team or anything.  Probably middle of the pack.  Well, maybe a bit higher now that they have an extra win on their record!  WTF!?

Souhan says exactly what I was trying to say ... Punky's either a horrible recruiter, or cannot coach his recruits. No more excuses for this guy.

We let a QB in his second college start pass for 352 yards and 3 TDs AND run for 81 yards and 2 TDs.

To be fair, he did pass for 104 yards and no scores, and added -1 yards rushing last week...

I think the Gophers should call USC and forfeit the game next week so they won't be embarrassed 2 weeks in a row

Maybe a 78-3 loss will put more pressure on the U to dump Brewster.

Firing Brewster isn't the solution.
Building a new stadium isn't the solution.

In MN, the U of M is protected.......it is protected by the Gov, the legislature and the powers that be (corporate, wealth, etc) in the Twin Cities.  This protection is not only seen for the athletic programs....it also exists at the academic/research level......the U of M is a major research institution (probably top 10 or 20 in the country) and the state should work to maintain that.....but limit what happens at Duluth, St. Cloud, Mankato, etc. to maintain that at the U?  That has been happening for 50+ years.  And it happens with funding.

A state of 5 million plus should have more than 2 division I programs within the state.  Even the U of Wisconsin Madison has to compete with Milwaukee and Marquette and now, Wisconsin Green Bay.

Only DI sports to compete with U of M are hockey....and this is the hockey richest state in the country.  But the presence of Duluth, Mankato, St. Cloud and now Bemdji forces the U of M program to work their asses off to get the best MN players.

NDSU who beat the Gophers, SDSU who kicked the Gophers asses all over the field last season but ended up losing, and now USD beating the Gophers are programs that have at their base, good MN high school kids.  Yeah, they get some talent from Florida, Chicago, etc.  And they have kids from Nebraska and Iowa and even the Dakotas.  But the U of M expects everyone from the region to go there....they don't do the work.  And in the past, they didn't have too and what was the result....mediocrity at best.  When do the Gophers play UND in Football?  They had better be careful or UND will beat them as well.

That being said, Brewster is an idiot and needs to be fired.  Next time, try looking at a coach who has already demonstrated that they can run a program and win....try looking at the DII coaches or try looking at DI (FCS) programs.

I would look at the dudes from the Dakotas. Sadly, we've seen first hand that they can win.

The only saving grace in this whole thing?
FINALLY everyone is on the same page.
Hundreds of pages of complaints around town, and not one typical wimpy Minnesota "oh, he's a good guy, give him time" bullcrap.
An in-over-his-head used-car salesman. And the state's biggest University fell for it. Shameful.
Guy from KFAN was saying last night that the Yotes Radio guy had to come on and talk the Gopher fans off the ledge.
Its simply amazing how low a program can be taken. Daunting task right now to rebuild this thing. If I was a part of getting them a new stadium, I'd be LIVID.

Oh ... I'm well over it.
Like I said, if any of my money went into that dandy new stadium, and THAT was the product they put in it?
I'd be on fire.

The stadium was pretty much a necessary addition for the LONG TERM benefit of the program, even if the results right now are bad.
