And I actually think Tice will do pretty well in whatever HC job he eventually gets.

Favre to Blame for Cowher's Disinterest in Jets?
Wed Dec 31, 2008

The New York Post reports while the Jets hoped to woo former Steelers HC Bill Cowher with a boatload of money, the marriage appeared to be unlikely from the outset. Sources close to Cowher said he did not want to have QB Brett Favre as his quarterback, and that he also wanted to bring in people he was familiar with to handle personnel. A source familiar with Cowher's thinking said before last night's decision came down that the former Steeler boss would have to receive assurances from the Jets that the 39-year-old Favre no longer was in the picture before agreeing to take control. "There's no way he's taking Brett Favre as his quarterback," said one person close to Cowher.

Funny

I speculated that exact same thing earlier today in a post.

If a team wants Cowher they will have to give him full control and no established coach with half a brain is going to want to go to NY if Favre comes back.

Favre is a fraud and you are not winning with him.

Arthur Blank of the Falcons said in an interview that he was considering Mike Tice in the head coaching spot, but since the team had gotten so much bad press with the Mike Vick crap, he didn't think he dared pick up Tice with scalpergate in his history. I'm fairly certain Tice will get another chance somewhere, and I hope he does.

Mike Tice did a good job with the team he had, especially condidering the restraints Red put on him. He had Culpepper, from whom he got the most from and basically resurected his career, he got good production out of Moss, who sucked horribly in Oakland, so it's possible a bad coach could screw that up. He had no defensive talent at all, and I believe he inherited both Michael Bennet and fake penis man, and still managed to have a stellar running game.

This on a shoestring budget with an owner screwing over the team and fans alike.

He wasn't a great coach, but he was better than bad, and he more than likely will get another shot at HC. Possibly even in Jax.

I agree. I don't think he was ready to be a HC yet, but he did a pretty good job considering how many limbs he had tied behind his back.

It was time for him to go, and I think he's a guy who will be better the 2nd time around.

You guys FLOOR ME!!

Three years OUT as a HEAD COACH and he still can't land a coordinator job let alone a HEAD COACH JOB. You guys forget that he was promoted from OLINE coach to HEAD COACH to being fired to being just an assistant coach on a failing team. What the hell is his title anywho???

Thanks for the laughs tonight!!!

Happy NEW YEAR!!

I'm seeing that Jet players are ripping Favre. They say he hides in a private office after practice instead of hanging out with the rest of the players

Geez.

I wonder if that's were he RAN to after the final play last Sunday.

I feel so dirty having promoted him for the Vikes.

I used to just HATE the guy and all of a sudden he was the answer.

I think I have an answer to drv's what was the dumbest thing you posted in 08.

Don't feel bad.  A lot of fans here got caught up in the hype and actually thought he would have been good here.

I also recall a lot of them in here spouting off pretty big when when Farte had his mini hot streak this year. Funny, hardly a peep now. But kudos to the few who have fessed up.

You are not kidding!

I sure hope we don't hear about picking up another over the hill guy this offseason in Jeff Garcia.  He is done.

There is NO way of really determining how Favre would have done in Minnesota.  I personally think he would have won 10 games and got them in the playoffs, just like the amazing Jackson/Frerotte duo.  After that, who knows ?

After all is said and done, I'm GLAD the Vikes didn't get Favre (I WAS one of the posters vying for him), because I wanted him because I felt he COULD get the Vikes to the playoffs and then roll the dice after that, whereas with TJACK/Frerotte I wasn't so sure, even with the powerhouse team the Vikes had, that they'd make the playoffs (and they almost DIDN'T!).

I think Mike Tice will end up about like Del Rio where he might coach a team to a good season or 2, but NEVER end up in the SB, always getting outcoached in the playoffs.  They are lunchbucket guys that their teams take on their personality.  Their teams will usually be TOUGH, but will probably fail in a SB run getting out chess matched.

I like to use data to form my own hypothesis.  Looking at the last 10 years Favre has sucked in the clutch almost every year.  Almost every Packer/Jet season has ended with him throwing INTs in a big game and LOSING.

He couldn't even win the NFC CG at home.

There is little chance that at his age and declining skills he could have led the Vikings to the Super Bowl and probably not even the playoffs.

Choking dog

Besides - he wasn't even available to us!

Mental masturbation

We might have been 2-14 with Favre.  Afterall, some of his potential interceptions are hard to catch outdoors.  Playing more than half of his games indoors, he would have shattered the single season interception record.

For real Pete

The fascination of FAR TOO MANY VIKINGS fans with Brett Favre is sickening.  It is an inferiority complex manifested in worship of a guy who won ONE freakin' Super Bowl despite starting for 2 decades.

It kills me when our own fans get so brainwashed by the media hype that they believe.

It is even more sickening to hear about KFAN actually having a Packer show on their station!

Maybe the team does need to move

I can't imagine a Cowboy hour in Philly or Washington on the radio

I do NOT worship Favre, to me he IS an over-rated QB, that was at one time slightly above average.  I think he is now average, and an average QB COULD have gotten this years' Vikings' team to the playoffs.  I just wasn't sure going into the season that TJACK/Frerotte were average.

I think the Vikes would have won 10 games with Favre, and then probably lost to the Eagles, but you never really know.  I do also think it's POSSIBLE that the Vikes might have been 2-14 with Favre and over 30 INTs witnessed.

I am also quite sickened that KFAN has a Packer show.

Not only is Favre essentially washed up (i.e. can't play a 16 game season without falling apart) - it is apparent he is also locker room poison.   His antics in Green Bay divided a locker room that should have been 100% behind the starting QB, and now all of these reports coming out of New York add fuel to that fire.   He disassociates himself with teammates and expects prima donna treatment.    We absolutely did NOT need that in our locker room.

I hate it too, but it's all economics.   Not only do the airwaves reach well into Wisconsin from the Twin Cities - but a TON of people move from Wisconsin to Minnesota.   While I'm flattered that they think living in Minnesota is an improvement from Wisconsin, it means that local media knows that they have a large market for Packer related stuff.

You don't find a Cowboy hour in Philly because there is no shared border with an overlapping of airwaves.

Having said that, I've sent a couple of e-mails complaining about it to the program director at KFAN.   I understand they're making a dollar decision for the station, but it's an insult to their primary market.   I know I'm not the only one who has complained because PA recently made reference on the air about how many people write and ask them to take the Packer show off the air.

I just don't think we'll get our wish because of the economics of the decision.

Team owner Woody Johnson has stated clearly that he wants Brett Favre to be the New York Jets' quarterback next season, but some players seem to be bristling at the thought.

Days after the Jets' 1-4 finish left them out of the playoffs and helped trigger Eric Mangini's firing as coach, running back Thomas Jones blasted Favre's final-game performance and seemed to suggest the QB's play -- nine interceptions and only two touchdown passes in the final five games -- called for his benching.
"We're a team and we win together ... but at the same time, you can't turn the ball over and expect to win," Jones said in an interview Tuesday with New York Hot 97 FM. Favre threw three interceptions in the Jets' season-ending 24-17 loss to Miami that clinched the AFC East for the Dolphins.

"The other day, the three interceptions really hurt us. I mean, that's just reality," Jones told the radio station. "If I were to sit here and say, 'Oh, man, it's OK,' that's not reality. ... I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it.
Favre
Jones
"If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game," Jones told Hot 97 FM. "You're jeopardizing the whole team because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. You're not the only one on the team. So when you get to the wire and somebody is just giving the game up, I mean, it's just not [fair]."
