I didn't consider Shanahan losing his job. I know, he should be underfire for losing the last three and with it, the playoffs..but still. I thought he was safe there.

Interesting idea. Shanny does know the WCO, zone blocking schemes, and once turned Terrell Davis into a 2000-yard rusher...

I thought he should have had a Holmgren pulled on him and had them bring in a personnel guy. As far as being an x's and o's coach, I think Denver will miss him.

For some reason, Denver now seems like a good fit for Cowher. Would he look at a western position?

Agree that it is a demotion, but what if Zygi paid him the same?

Or, how about if Zygi fired Chili (if the Vikes lose on Sunday) and hired Shanny with the understanding that he had to keep Frazier as DC?

Mike, can you hang around a couple years while we see how this Chilly thing pans out? Or you know what? How about you run the offense and do all the work, we'll just give him the HC paycheck?

I really think Chilly is the HC year for another year at minimum, more likely another 2 yeras at least.

Just like he brought Denver a SB WIN after 4 SB losses, Shanahan is signed with the Vikings to bring THEM their FIRST.

Makes sense to me. I also like Cowher and Mangini. Some good coaches out there now, should Childress not work out.

I like the fact that Childress is unconventional, but he does some things at times that make it hard to fully support him. I think the next game could say A LOT about what to expect from a Chili team in a playoff game.

Cleveland is a bottom feeder franchise. The real Browns are in Baltimore.

I can't see any high profile coach even considering Cleveland or Detroit. Neither team has a QB, is a great place to live, or is a glamour franchise. Teams like that can forget about Parcels, Holmgren, Cowher, Shanahan, etc.

The Jets would be a plumb job but not if the owner insists on bring Favre back. I doubt very many coaches want to deal with him next year and then retiring the following year.

I see Shanahan taking a year off and waiting for a big time franchise to come calling.

From reports I'm getting Cowher is not interested in coaching this year.

I think the economy is going to keep some of the high priced guys off the field for a couple years. They can make more in studio anyway, especially a guy like Shanahan.

I could see him to the Browns if they give him personel/front office control. He had that in Denver, but a lot of teams are going away from that. But I just don't see the Browns offering up the cash.

What about the Cowgirls? That's a splash I could see Jones trying to make. Canning Phillips and his staff and letting Shanny take over. It would also create a nice interstate rivalry with Hou.

Cowher, the hottest coach on the market in a year with multiple job openings, will stay off the sidelines in 2009, reliable NFL sources tell me. The only way Cowher will even consider one of the jobs, I'm told, is if he gets an offer he just can't refuse. I'm also told reliably that if there was a job out there Cowher would have loved to consider, it was the Browns job.

That's awesome. And this after we already see Favre basically force a very good young coach in Mangini out. People are finally waking up to the real Brett Favre and his vastly overrated ability. Favre sucks at this point, especially at the end of seasons. HE killed the Jets this year.

Shanahan and Mangini are two damn fine coaches that I'd love to have here. Can you imagine how many yards AD could run for with Shanahan's system? 3,000?

I'm firmly in the camp of either rooting for a Vikes win or a Vikes blowout so that Chilly can be fired and we can get Shanahan or Cowher.

Obviously the NFL will now fine Cowher for those remarks. How dare he even hint at the truth about Favre. Favre is the biggest fake in the history of sports.

Depends on how many coaches get canned in the next couple of years. There will be some owner that will take a chance...Heck...nobody seems to want the Detroit job...and the Raiders job could come available soon too... Desperate owners might jump to get Tice.
