The eight NFL head coaching vacancies are starting to disappear, and fast. In the past few days, we’ve seen the Arizona Cardinals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Green Bay Packers lock up their head coaches. With five openings left, former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy could conceivably be in the running for any of them.

But it doesn’t look like McCarthy wants just any of them. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he’s got his heart set on just one: the New York Jets

Good.

Former Dolphin HOF Nick Bounaconti?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/31/sport/nick-buoniconti-dolphins-dead/index.html

Dead at 78.

I used to find this guy to be a complete jerkwad. Especially with the publicly having a glass of champagne every year when the last undefeated team falls.

AUSTIN, Texas — Police said Monday they are still investigating the weekend motorcycle crash that killed former Texas Longhorns running back and NFL player Cedric Benson and a woman passenger.
According to police, witnesses said Benson was driving his BMW motorcycle at a high rate of speed through a curving, hilly section of the city Saturday night when he collided with a van that was attempting a left turn.

Police said a passenger in the van and a bystander attempted to help Benson, 36, and his passenger, 27-year-old Aamna Najam. Both died at the scene.

I would love to send the Colts Mannion for a low draft pick.

But Zimmer doesn't want to have his back up be a bad practicer like Sloter. Doesn't matter if Sloter is studly when the game is on and Mannion is a slug.

Like a 13th round pick in the 2032 draft?

From the Browns Steelers game, steroid use is still rampant in the NFL.

Haven't seen such uncontrollable anger due to PED's since the height of WWE steroid use.

I would personally like to see the Patriots play with ten men on the field, but the penalty may be just a slap on the wrist.

Belicheks statement about Brady's announcement this morning.
Outstanding stuff.
That's a great way to split with a legend. No regrets, s'all good, man.

Tom was not just a player who bought into our program. He was one of its original creators. Tom lived and perpetuated our culture. On a daily basis, he was a tone setter and a bar raiser. He won championships in three of his first four years on the field and in three of his final six seasons with us, while competing for championships in most every season in between. This is a credit to Tom's consistency and what separates him. He didn't just perform. He didn't just win. He won championships over and over again.
“Tom and I will always have a great relationship built on love, admiration, respect and appreciation. Tom's success as a player and his character as a person are exceptional. Nothing about the end of Tom's Patriots career changes how unfathomably spectacular it was. With his relentless competitiveness and longevity, he earned everyone's adoration and will be celebrated forever. It has been a privilege to coach Tom Brady for 20 years.
“Examples of Tom's greatness are limitless, going back even before he was drafted. We witnessed how he prepared when he wasn't playing, how he performed when he got his opportunity, what he did to continuously improve, his leadership, his mindset, the example he set, and, of course, the person he is. I am extremely grateful for what he did for our team and for me personally.
“Sometimes in life, it takes some time to pass before truly appreciating something or someone but that has not been the case with Tom. He is a special person and the greatest quarterback of all-time.”

I'm as big a Brady nut-hugger as there is, and so I'm ok with whatever he ends up doing.
But damn, man.
Ugliest uniform in sports.
That's the worst part of it.
The GOAT in that ugly GD garb. That hurts.

Trade, pending physical: Patriots are trading TE Rob Gronkowski and a seventh-round pick to the Buccaneers for a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN.

Ian Rapoport✔@RapSheet
#Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski has taken his physical already, sources say. So the trade should happen: Gronk and a 7th for a 4th rounder.

The Patriots have agreed to trade Rob Gronkowski to the Buccaneers, pending a physical, in a deal that reunites the retired tight end with Tom Brady in Tampa Bay.

Gronkowski's agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed Tuesday to ESPN's Adam Schefter that his client was traded to the Buccaneers.

"Pending the physical, Rob has agreed to play for Tampa this season," Rosenhaus told Schefter. "He will honor his current contract at this time."‬

Gronkowski, who turns 31 next month, has one year and $9 million remaining on his current deal with the Patriots. New England will receive a fourth-round draft pick while the Buccaneers also receive a seventh-round pick in the trade, a source told Schefter.

Gronkowski already has taken his physical in Boston with a neutral physician, a source told Schefter, and is awaiting the official results. One source added to Schefter that he believes Gronkowski passed "with flying colors."

Tampa Bay was the only place that Gronkowski was willing to play, a league source told Schefter. The Boston Herald first reported Tuesday that Gronkowski asked the Patriots to trade him to the Bucs.

Brady, who signed with Tampa Bay last month, also played a large role in the Bucs' exploration of a trade for Gronkowski, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini.

Gronkowski, arguably the best tight end in NFL history, announced his retirement in March 2019 after a nine-year career during which he won three Super Bowl rings and was one of the league's most colorful personalities.

Despite his retirement, Gronkowski repeatedly said that he would not rule out a return to football and indicated that he would prefer to play with Brady.

Like Brady, Gronkowski also hasn't played for any team besides the Patriots.

Rosenhaus indicated last year that Gronkowski had left open the possibility to return to play with Brady. When Gronkowski retired on March 24, 2019, Rosenhaus told ESPN that if the "team was struggling or they needed him at some point next year, and let's just say hypothetically Tom Brady gave him a call and said 'Rob, I need you,' I wouldn't be shocked if he came back to play a few games."

The Patriots currently have just two tight ends on their roster -- Matt LaCosse and Ryan Izzo -- and the position projects as one of their top needs.

The Patriots own the No. 23 overall pick in the draft, and then don't pick again until 87th overall, in the third round.

Andy Dalton is free of the Bengals.

My bet is NE snaps him up since just about everyone else has their QB systems shored up or a lot invested in it already. NE has Hoyer and Stidman..

Unless they are planning to tank....

Not sure if this should go in the Packers thread or here. But how many games will the NFL suspend Aaron Rodgers?

The fact that the Packers appeared to know he wasn't vaccinated, yet let him pal around with the players from his own team and the teams they played against, without a mask and right in people's faces - is reason enough for the Packers to be heavily fined and lose a couple of draft picks.

And Rodgers should be suspended for the rest of the season.
