Herb Score died yesterday. His career ended when he was hit in the eye while on the mound. Without googling, who was the guy that hit the ball?

Gil MacDougald...and no, I didn't google.  I WIKI'D!!!!

His career didn't end with that batted ball either.  He did pitch for a few more seasons.

I didn't know his numbers were so sick before the injury.

Could have been one of the all-time greats.  Sad.

Who hit the winning HR for the American League in the inaugural year of All-Star week's Home Run Derby?

Dave Parker won the derby that year.  And he played in the NL...

Did you mean who hit the winning home run in that All Star game?

OK, I checked...the inaugural year of the Derby was 1985, Parker won the Derby and the NL won the game 6-1.  So I don't get your question.

Hmmm....

I'll go with the greatest hitter ever, Ted Williams, if that's what you mean.

You guys are both high!

Parker won the individual title, but back then it was ultimately a team competition....AL vs NL.  The American League won the Home Run Derby.  Who hit the winning HR for the AL Home Run Derby team?

I'll guess, since he just got voted into the hall of fame...Jim Rice.

Trekkie already established the inaugural year of the Derby was 1985.  Care to revise, or is that your final answer?

You and Dustin.  I was a little rough in my criticism of your guesses yesterday.

You didn't piss me off at all.

Takes a lot more than that to get under my skin.
Six Years in the Navy will do that do you.

This begins to shed some light, but by no means does it explain everything.
