Bullshit yourself....go back 3 years and everyone on this board was calling him a future superstar. I had high hopes for him as we should as he was a high-rated prospect. Hopefully the former enigma known as Aaron Hicks makes it and stays in the Majors. Who the hell is my partner from New York?

No we weren't. Well one person was. The rest of us were saying things like his performance on the field needs to start living up to his tools hype or that he should drop left handed hitting. The vast majority was NOT saying he was a future superstar.

Superstar?

In my 35 years of watching the Twins I count the following Superstars

Kirby
Johan
Joe Mauer for a little bit

Superstar is a strong word.

As for New York, I'll just let him out himself.

Sweens, it has to be part of the discussion because they are our in house alternatives.

I don't agree Murf. The only thing that matters is if Hicks is ready. Those two bozos are not the threshold for whether or not he is ready. Hicks is competing against the standard Molly has set for himself, not S&R. When Molitor is satisfied he is ready to play to his potential up here those two will be shoved aside no matter how they are performing.

Alright it's pretty simple.

Hicks has downright sucked at the plate the last two years. Add on mental lapses in the OF and on the basepaths, he's dug himself a great big hole to dig himself out of.

And no matter how much one thinks he may have earned it...1 1/2 months in AAA isn't enough to dig himself out yet.

Midsummer maybe August if he keeps raking.

And it doesn't make you a bad person to feel this way.

I have a few more....Mourneau was until his concussion, Frankie V, and for short bursts Liriano, Knoblach, and Scott Erickson but that is beside the point....I wish I could look back 3 years and search. I know there were many saying Hicks was going to be a superstar.

lol--probably true. He wasn't the only one. I think Gleeman loved Hicks too but I know other posters liked Hicks just not as much as Dustin.

That would be me, Phil.
Dutchess County born and bred

TGS put it best several posts ago. He did not deserve to be a starting CF in the major leagues. Paul F'kn Molitor pretty much rubber stamped that. If anyone wants to complain about Hicks being AAA now write a letter to Molitor.

"Partner in NY" is a lot more effective. He could have said ewen or Ralph but he was going for style points.

That's Murph for ya

Deep down, I can tell you guys are annoyed that Hicks is playing well in triple AAA.

I'd be happy with an outfield of Rosario, Buxton, and Hicks.
I'd also bat Hicks 8th.

Molitor (My partner in St. Paul, MN) on Hicks not making the opening day roster:
“The bottom line was that he didn’t perform particularly well,” Molitor said

Like I told Dustin earlier....look what he has done the last 2 Septembers. I am pissed he wasn't ready to play ball in April and May in the Majors the last 3 years. Murph you need to settle down :)

I'm settled.

All of the recent winning kind of makes it a moot point anyways.
Hard for us to question the experts, especially when the team is winning.

not that I consider Terry Ryan an expert.

This too. That's our ideal team IMO, with those guys working out.

I don't even recall ever labeling him a "superstar". But I do know I said he has star "potential". Heck, I still believe that, even though the odds are more with him becoming a very solid regular. The point has always been to take a valuable asset, develop him properly, and put him in the best situation to succeed. That remains the case.

I have to revise my statement....Hicks hasn't been prepared to hit High Level Minor League pitching in 2013 or 2014 out of ST (2014: He finally hit AA in June-July, AAA Pitching in July- August, and Major League Pitching in September). Molitor deemed he didn't put the work in to hit Major League pitching out of ST in 2015. He is hitting AAA Pitching now in early May....the season starts in early April.

Murph is kind of a jumpy guy. Maybe he should switch to Sanka

To what? He didn't in ST. A whopping 1 month of semi-regular AB's. No one has disputed that. We disputed notions (still eronious) that it was because "he didn't work hard enough". Just because you keep saying those things doesn't make them true.

Sweens, I would agree with you in re: to Shane/Schafer usually, but I think in this case it's different because of our soon-to-be OF logjam. Either we play Hicks NOW and see what we actually have or we are waiting until Buxton/Rosario are both ready (plus one of Sano/Plouffe in the OF) and have completely wasted any value from that asset.

If Hicks comes up and performs poorly, so be it. His value won't have really sunk any lower than the Twins have made it anyway and he can be put on the scrapheap. However, if he performs, his value has been rejuvenated and we have a valuable trade asset (either him or one of the other guys). Not to mention he'd actually help this team with his superior defense and (likely) superior hitting to Schafer/Robinson. For a team that is currently "in it".

Lastly, Phil, can you please stop using BA as a barometer of anything? It's ridiculous. This isn't the 80's.

Yes, that "bad attitude with no IQ" Hicks is player of the week:

http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150510&content_id=123632260&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t534&sid=t534

Maybe someday he can have as much success as Chris Colabello has at the major league level

Whammy!
