Those 7 shut out innings dropped Wheeler's AAA era to 4.50. Probably need to see a little more.

into his 3rd year at AAA

Hasn't gotten consistent. I think Slegers is probably passing him.

I guess I only looked at his record - my bad.

They desperately need to turn Stewart around. Otherwise they flushed the 4th over all pick of that draft down the toilet.

Of course. He's on the fast track - to nowhere.

Wednesday ball

CR tied the game in the 7th, then gave up one in the 9th to lose 3-2.

Berardino has spent a couple of days there. I'd bet there will be an article soon.

Beeker 6IP 6H/2R/1Er/2K/HR/E(1)

This. Kid was so exciting out of the draft and in rookie ball. Then they tinkered the hell out of his delivery and ruined him.

Dustin, that was just a horrible draft pick.

I don't know. It's tough to say how much is development and how much is scouting. And sometimes, things just don't work out either way. But Gibson and Stewart were both pretty consensus good picks at the time. They both always had the talent, IMO.

I tend to think there's more evidence for bad development by this organization than bad scouting over the last decade or so. Though both could certainly apply.

Gibson was "OK."

Stewart at 4 was a disaster. Many better options at 4.

The alleged "draft experts" were saying that Minnesota wound up with the best pitcher in the draft even though he was the third one selected. I suspect Dustin is right in that the Twins tinkered with his delivery until he was worthless. Falvey's forte is supposedly putting together a great process for developing young pitcher. Maybe it's not too late.

Been watching Nick Gordons numbers there in Chatt.
Seems like he's handling things well.
Solid with bat and glove. Still only 21.
Think we'll see him anytime soon?
I suppose it depends on how things go up here. Maybe a call-up late? maybe a bigger look next Spring?

I think if there's an injury, they turn to Vielma first (who's also been good) since he's probably the best defensively in the organization at SS. I think they probably try to wait until at least next year with Gordon, given his age. He's one of those guys who they'll want to call up for good when he's ready IMO.

I know you hate to hear it man, but when Gordon is ready, there really will be a big decision time for this team. You pretty much have to trade one of him/Dozier/Polanco. Considering age/salary/team control, I think you almost have to trade Dozier. Gordon to SS, Polanco to 2b. But it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. And man, how long has it been since the Twins have had the problem of TOO MANY starting quality middle infielders? Heck, not even starting quality, but all above average starting quality MI's. I'm not sure I've seen that in my lifetime.

Yep, will be a great problem to have.
I'll take Doziers bat off the bench on get-away days and for late-inning PHs.

BTW, don't sleep on Vielma either. Always been good defensively, and seems to have had something click with the bat this year. I watched him a few BP sessions both last year and this year in ST and he was a lot different this year. I also noticed how much he and Tony O were talking; I'm guessing that has a lot to do with it.

I can see Curtiss getting moved to AAA soon. Melotakis too. Maybe Burdi as well.

In CR, Andrew Vasquez needs to be promoted, 20.1IP 12H/30 K's

Promotions will start soon enough for pitchers, come draft and all-star breaks.

Jake Reed

This spring, he went to his second big league spring training and clearly impressed the coaching staff.
Unfortunately, in the final exhibition game (Rochester vs Twins), he pulled a muscle in his side. He has been out since.
He has pitched in recent days in extended spring training and even hit 98. He should return to the Red Wings soon.

Just great

Burdi tore his UCL

Double-A Chattanooga right-hander Nick Burdi, one of the Twins’ top pitching prospects, is headed for Tommy John surgery after suffering a full thickness tear in his ulnar collateral ligament.

Burdi, 24, last pitched on Sunday at Biloxi, where he worked his seventh scoreless outing of the month and lowered his season earned run average to 0.53. An examination in the Twin Cities by Twins physician John Steubs confirmed the diagnosis.

“He’s been a little bit sore and it’s gotten worse,” said Matt Sosnick, Burdi’s agent. “Last time in particular was really painful. That’s why he had a pretty good idea of what this was before he even got the MRI. It’s really disappointing.”

Burdi recorded four outs during a 24-pitch outing on Sunday, but the three hits he allowed were as many as he’d given up in his eight previous outings.
