ORIGINAL: djskillz As long as he keeps playing as he has this year, a 3-4 year extension would be a no-brainer. There aren't really good 1b options on the open market, we have no one in-house that can capably play 1b (don't give me Vargas as an option). And he's huge for mitigating the limitations defensively on the left side. Plus, he could then retire a Twin. I don't really see a good alternative to extending Joe (again, assuming he keeps this up) out there. Not sure what the numbers would be, but I bet he'd take another hometown discount. Maybe $10-12M/year? I agree. Extend Joe. But I'd have to say the hometown discount should be in the $6 million per year range. You don't get a GG-caliber, .750-.800 OPS 1b for $6M/year. IMO . If so, great. And before anyone chimes in with "well, Joe should be willing to take less because of what he's made the last 6-8 years", just remember that he was way more underpaid his first 5-6 years than he's been overpaid for this time. That's just the nature of baseball's system. Not that again. Not without at least mentioning why doubles are better than Home Runs again. Careful. Matt didn't talk to me for 48 hours after I had issues with just that... That was pretty funny. Had a similar interaction with my wife this weekend. I was DL in that one. Wife: Maybe we should see a Marriage Counselor Me: I'm fine Now we're good. I said her idea wasn't stupid like I said. She said maybe it was.
