Status: offline 		Shortstop Wander Javier, ranked the Twins’ No. 2 prospect by Baseball America, will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. It’s the same shoulder that kept him out for the bulk of spring training.

According to Twins farm director Jeremy Zoll, the 19-year-old Javier faces a recovery period of six to nine months, which should enable him to return for his age-20 season in 2019. Some players facing the same injury have needed 10 to 12 months to return, but the Twins are optimistic Javier will be at the front end of that timetable.

Signed at age 16 in July 2015 to a $4 million bonus out of the Dominican Republic, Javier has been limited to 50 professional games due to hamstring (2016) and shoulder injuries.

A potential five-tool player, Javier slugged .471 with a .383 OBP last season in the rookie-level Appalachian League. Rated No. 97th overall by MLB Pipeline, he was slated to join a loaded low-A Cedar Rapids club that includes fellow shortstop Royce Lewis and 2016 first-round pick Alex Kirilloff had he stayed healthy.
