ORIGINAL: twinsfan 2009 1. Revere 2. Hicks 3. Ramos 4. Hunt 5. Valencia 6. Mijares 7. Mulvey 8. Gutierrez 9. Delaney 10. Parmelee Is there any wonder why they're sucking? Gutierrez/delaney were bullpen guys and the Twins effed up trying to make Gutierrez a starter(a novel idea that continues to fail) And shooter hunt a washout. Mulvey never made it. All reasons why the current team stinks. The farm system was wiped out long before Bill Smith got his hands on things, too. Terry Ryan was the one that originally decimated the farm system. Not sure why everything is always blamed on the Bill Smith years. Yep......Bill Smith was at the helm when Sano was signed if I recall. He knew he wasn't a baseball guy and let the baseball "experts" advise him Someone must have told him to get JJ Hardy.....too bad we had given up on Gomez because he didn't fit our image of a leadoff CF. He tried to strengthen a playoff team midseason. Unfortunately, he took the advice of Gardy who reacted like chicken little when Nathan went down and Rausch had some hiccups. He couldn't sign Hunter since it should have been done before Torii reached FA status the year before under TR. He tried to replace Torii by trading for a 5 tool player, Delmon Young.....someone told Bill that Delmon was a five tool player......someone. And then when he included a pretty fair shortstop in the deal and a pretty good pitcher, did his manager and pitching coach scream bloody murder at the time??????? He did get Gomez for Santana....but he had no leverage with Santana. Even here, he probably followed TR's advice from the back seat to not go into the season with a lame duck player even though because of his pending FA, Santana would have had to pitch his butt off to get a great FA deal. And if the Twins were out of it, trade Santana midseason..... Who gave Bill Smith this advice?????? TRex was supposedly an advisor at that point. Who knows, no one will tell. These "advisors" to Billy Smith effed it all up.No way Smith could have done all this damage by himself.
